For Your Viewing Pleasure

Just some news items I thought folks might be interested in! Tonight is episode two of the Real World: Denver. Last week's episode was interesting/depressing. Davis, the show's gay participant looks to be prominent, but so does the issue of homophobia. That's both good and bad. I think it's interesting the show has two African-American men, Stephen, who is homophobic, and Tyrie, who is definitely not. You have to wonder if the show's producers did that on purpose. It was also disheartening to see two of the women making out in a hot tub in the first episode while Tyrie looked on. Can you get any more cliche than that? On the other hand, ratings were up over last season. davis1.jpg It'll be interesting to see what they do with the gay and homophobic aspects this season. A reader wrote in to tell me that Davis (that's him above) reportedly spends a lot of time making out with women. As for Stephen's Christian based homophobia will there be a serious exploration of that, or just a lot of heat and little light shed on the topic? Whichever the case, we're going to have some fun with it by recapping the show. With Carlos being off of Top Chef we have to make fun of something. griffin.jpgKathy Griffin's very gay friendly My Life on the D-List will be back for a third season on Bravo. That sound you just heard? Clay Aiken smashing up a recording studio in frustration at the thought of Griffin ragging him even more. CBS won the overall Monday night ratings (while finishing second to NBC in the ever desirable 18-49 market). How I Met Your Mother with Wayne Brady as Neil Patrick Harris' gay brother finished second in its time slot losing out to temporary powerhouse Deal or No Deal. That's good news for us and Harris as folks are watching to see how Mother does post his coming out. clayaiken.jpgUnfortunately for The Class, the news was less good as they lost some of Mother's lead-in audience--not a good thing for a show trying to get a full season pick-up. On the other hand, there are so few sitcoms right now, it's not hard to think CBS will want to keep the show around as long as it isn't tanking. And with the November sweeps over (good-bye stunt casting and shocking character deaths!) ABC and CBS are splitting bragging rights. Only NBC is left out in the cold. That's what they get for not replacing Will and Grace with another gay show. michael_urie.jpgBoth Ugly Betty and ER feature gay storylines tomorrow night so set your TIVO's for those. On Ugly Betty Marc nearly quits before Wilhelmina convinces him otherwise and on ER Pratt works on getting over the fact his brother is gay. That is all!
