Carrie Fisher Finds the Humor in Gay Ex

Carrie FisherHBO has just announced that Meg Ryan is attached to star in a miniseries adaptation of Carrie Fisher's fourth novel, "The Best Awful."

The book's opening line: "Suzanne Vale had a problem ... She'd had a child with someone who forgot to tell her he was gay. He forgot to tell her, and she forgot to notice."

The Best Awful is a sequel of sorts. You may recall that "Suzanne Vale" was also the heroine in Fisher's Postcards from the Edge. (Meryl Streep played the character in the Postcards movie).

It will be interesting to compare Meg Ryan's take on the character to Meryl Streep's. Like Postcards, The Best Awful is thinly-veiled autobiography. Fisher was involved with CAA agent Bryan Lourd back in the early 1990's and had a daughter with him. Lourd left her for another man.
