Mary Cheney, Vice President Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter, is pregnant. Mary Cheney and her partner of 15 years, Heather Poe, are reportedly "ecstatic." The baby is supposedly due in late spring. The VP's other daughter, Elizabeth, is currently on leave as deputy assistant secretary of state (Gee, I wonder if there was any nepotism involved in that appointment.) after having her fifth child in July. FIFTH! There was no formal announcement from the vice president's office, but his spokewoman did say, "the vice president and Mrs. Cheney are looking forward with eager anticipation to the arrival of their sixth grandchild." Of course, Mary Cheney, 37, was an aide in her father's reelection campaign in 2004 and became a bone of contention when Democratic nominee John Kerry mentioned in her in a debate. It was a mystery to many in the LGBT community how she could work for an administration that was actively working to deny her civil rights. Her book, Now It's My Turn: A Daughter's Chronicle of Political Life, failed to adaquately explain her choices -- at least in my opinion. At any rate, congratulations to Mary and Heather. Too bad you can't get married. No word on who the father is, and I refuse to speculate... but could he have horns and a tail?
