Who Would Jesus Do?

jesus2.jpgThere's a novel just out that may represent a first: it reimagines Jesus Christ as queer, and recounts a passionate love affair between JC and the apostle John. Ahem! I'm an avowed agnostic secular humanist but even to me that seems like really incendiary subject matter. Forget about "What Would Jesus Do?" The question becomes, "Who Would Jesus Do?" The publisher's comments make clear this isn't exactly erotica, however. Reverend Mel White, in endorsing the book, makes assurances that "it is not a prurient look at the sex life of Jesus, but a classic re-telling of the greatest story ever told, the story of a truly human Jesus and those truly human women and men who lived, laughed and loved with him." jesusinlove.jpgOkay, I don't know about the "greatest story ever told" bit. (My vote would go to Watership Down or maybe Jane Eyre) But by making Christ's life and teachings more relatable and accessible, this book might actually get someone like me to revisit the gospels. I'm curious if anyone out there has already read Jesus in Love -- and if so, what did you think of it? Also interested in hearing from Christians (gay or straight). Does this sound like a book you'd read? The book is available on Amazon and you can find it here.
