My New Year's wishes and some other odds and ends

Here are five things I'd like to see happen this year: 1) A great network show built around a gay lead(s). It's no secret that straight women are interested in gay men so I propose a show starring Rupert Everett, Neil Patrick Harris, T.R. Knight, and Lance Bass as a group of gay friends living in Portland, OR. And Cyndi Lauper can be their quirky straight friend. garbage.gif2) Breakfast with Scot (the gay hockey movie starring Tom Cavanaugh) will turn out to be a suprise hit beating Adam Sandler's I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry at the box office. Don't get me wrong--I want Sandler's movie to do great as well, but I'd really like to see the movie about the actual gay guys (as opposed to the ones pretending to be gay) be the bigger success. 3) A gay male talk show host to appear on either daytime or late night television. 4) Perez Hilton forced to get a real job more suited to his actual talents. Say, garbage disposal for instance. 5) A gay reality dating show where the gay men aren't there to fool women into thinking they are straight. On to some other things! madonna.jpgI waded through four more episodes of Big Day and all I got was a big headache. This show is bad, bad, bad, but at least Freddy (Leslie Odoms, Jr.) didn't have anymore distasteful gropes of the straight with whom he's in love. We even learned one of the other groomsmen knows Freddy is in love with the groom. If you're feeling masochistic, two more episodes of Big Day air tonight. Sigh... What's it like to be related to one of the most famous people in the world? The Miami Herald talks with Madonna's brother Christopher Ciccone (pictured above) to find out. The Sunday New York Times had a great article about what it means that the Nationa Hockey League is allowing Breakfast with Scot to be set on the Toronto Maple Leafs team. It also talks about how pro sports teams are getting the message that homophobic behavior from either fans or players is acceptable. (Unfortunately, the article is a Times Select so I can't link directly to it.) wgay.jpg The nation's first exclusively gay TV station launched on New Year's day out of Key West, FL. Called WGAY, the station broadcasts an all-gay line-up including news, dramas, talk shows and game shows including gay strip poker. WGAY hopes to be available on cable later this year. gay couple.jpg Finally, via Towleroad comes this great story about the gay couple (pictured above) that struck up a friendship with Gerald Ford after they bought and restored the former president's childhood home. Articles such as this can do wonders in showing straight people gay folks really aren't any different.
