Work Out's Doug Blasdell passes away Bravo just issued a statement regarding what a reader wrote in tell me a short time ago: Doug Blasdell, one of the trainers on Bravo's reality show Work Out, was suddenly hospitalized over this weekend and died unexpectedly yesterday.
Here is the official statement from Bravo: All of us at Bravo are deeply saddened by the terrible news of Doug Blasdell's untimely passing. He was an inspiring trainer, an exuberant colleague who made the gym a very fun place each and every day and was extraordinarily warm in all aspects of his life. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his many friends and colleagues at this very difficult time. We had the opportunity to interview Doug about his role on the show. The forty-four year old trainer was a funny, affable presence. Given that he was eleven years older than anyone else on the show, he sort of served as the "father" figure on the program. Doug told us one of his purposes in going on the show was to give kids in Nebraska a portrayal of a "gay man as a healthy guy who is somewhat good looking and normal." Doug was born in Burbank, CA and attended college at the University of Southern California where he earned a degree in Business in 1988. Doug was single when we interviewed him, and Bravo's statement did not indicate whom he is survived by. Our condolences go out to Doug's friends and family. Submitted by on Tue, 2007-01-23 02:13. |

Good Lord.. I can't believe it. Talk about a guy who was the picture of health and beauty.... damn.
Oh My God. This is shocking and hits hard...I don't even know why it hits so hard. Damn. Now that I think about it...I have heard of guys who are really beefy just suddenly dropping...that's why I never really liked those massive muscles. A big strain on the heart. But damn..
Don't hate big muscles
OMG... I watched and loved that show (Work Out). Doug, besides Jackie, was my favorite on that show. I am just shocked! Shocked! Bah! This world is a darker place with his passing.

Just so sad :(
I really liked him on Work Out... I guess that it proves that everybody dies, even "healthy" people. It also reminds me of a teacher (less beefy than Doug but in a similar situation) who died during its lunch break... It's always a shock.
Sadly, it was probably due to the mixing of meth and viagra, an often deadly combination, especially if the user is also taking steriods.
! Thank you for the psychic autopsy, Lidsville.
I am so sorry to hear this news.Doug and everyone on the show just made me want to push myself to stay fit and his positive enegy and personality will be greatly missed. My heart and prays go out to all that had the chance to be in his life.
I am in shock. He was such a sweet guy. My sympathies go out to those that knew and loved him.
How tragic! I hope they haven't already filmed season 2 because I couldn't bear to watch knowing Doug is gone.

Thanks for this
This is truly a sad piece of news. However, Lidsville's comment that it was "probably due to the mixing of meth and viagra" is even sadder. It's unfair and irresponsible to assume that someone who is gay and has a muscular physique chooses to socialize in that way. There are plenty of gay men that don't subscribe to that sort of chemical cocktail in order to have a good time. Lidsville is just another ignorant jerk perpetuating the stereotype that all gay men are shallow, drug-addicted body-worshiping jerks. It's offensive and totally wrong.

I was completely shocked to learn of Doug's passing. Channel surfing one day, I came across Work Out where Doug on on camera at the time. His looks, body, smile, eyes, but more important his caring personality made me stopand put down the remote. Doug was awesome, in every way. The man was, what I would refer to as a "total package". He had it all. He was the type of person you either wanted to be yourself, or wanted to be with. To anyone that had something bad to say, shame on you. But Doug I am sure has already forgiven you. To come up with some of the bizzare and hatefule storeies that some of you have come up with can only mean 1 thing. These are things that you yourselves are guilty of, that is why you know so much about them.
RIP Doug, you were one in a million!
Glad that we were all privledged to have known you through Work Out.
honestly :)
Very nice site! Good work.
luogo interessante, soddisfare interessante, buon!
Living on the east coast, and not hanging in the same inner circles as years past, I just found out Doug passed away. I was totally shocked upon hearing the news. He was ALWAYS kind and sweet when it came to helping out myself and others back at USC.
He helped me with my move and transition from San Fran to Boston without accepting anything but a poorly cooked home meal and some hugs. I knew he was doing well with his career as a trainer out in Los Angeles, and even seen him a few times on Work Out, so I felt like he was immortal. Obviously he wasn't. He was just like us,... a human being. I'll miss Doug.

I was very saddened to see that Doug has passed. I was very glad to have him as a positive role model. I felt he is a good role model. Through his role on Workout we could see him portrayed as a real person devoted to keeping himself physically fit, happy, and a real person. Not just a gay man. To me, he was portrayed as a normal man with an intention to help people feel better about themselves through physical fitness. The fact that he happened to be a gay man was just a normal part of him. We need so many more portrayals in television to help people understand that we're happy, healthy successful people that just happen to love someone of their same sex. We're normal just like everyone else. I was very happy to see that people who really knew him on a personal level write in to leave their comments here. I hope they will read through my comments here and know that he touched me, a viewer, deeply. I didn't get to share a personal connection with him but his influence was deeply felt. So, hopefully, Doug's goals are realized through the way he lived his life and is thought of even though he's not here physically. I've only started to read through the information posted here but don't really care to pay attention to the negative comments and thoughts that seem to crop up during a celebrity's passing. Especially, someone who's celebrity just happens to include being a normal gay man. Hugs to those whos saddened by his passing.
Nice site you have!

In the end, it doesn't matter what a person dies of. It matters most how he or she effected the people around them. And it's obvious that he made so many people happy especially with themselves. I, too, enjoyed watching the show. He will be very much missed. He was an asset to the gay community because he wasn't your sterotypical "gym bunny." My sympathies go out with his family and friend. Peace and love...
E evidente che il luogo e stato fatto dalla persona che realmente conosce il mestiere!
My condolences to his family and friends. Does anyone know what happened?
Du musst ein Fachmann sein - wirklich guter Aufstellungsort, den du hast!
I watched WORKOUT because of Doug.Yes I did like how he looked but as I saw him interact
on the show with clients I found it entertaining and interesting. I was looking forward
to the new season on Bravo to see more of Doug. When I went on the Bravo site I was
shocked and very sad to hear of his passing. It is especially hard when it is someone young.
My condolences to his family and friends . Doug RIP

I think they've almost completed Season 2. Jackie the owner was on a local station recently taking about the new season. This is so sad...he was one of the more genuine trainers...cared alot.
Wow, now that is just unbelievable. He always seemed to be in such great health. Then again, when it's your time to go, it's your time to go.. :(
To Lidsville: I think it's horrible to say it was probably meth and viagra when you have absolutely no idea what the circumstances were. For a reader of a gay blog, that's pretty damn homophobic and stereotypical.
Our gay culture often celebrates the physical aspect of our existence. Doug showed his humanity as well. If there is a lesson in any of that, is that as a community, we need to value each other as humans and see the intrinsic beauty in our humanity. Our bodies carry each of us through our lives, but they don't last forever. We all need to remember this and be grateful for the blessings in our lives--and not take each other for granted.
Golly, that's a sure cynical response to a death, Lidsville. My DP almost died of bacteria meningitis -- in fact, her obit, had she died, would have read the same way.
And regardless of how he died, his life has ended at too young an age. And that is a loss.
BTW, I thought about deleting Lidsville's post, but I thought people would react this way and that it would be a good thing for him/her to hear it from everyone else.
According to a myspace post by Brian Peeler Also on Workout, Doug was preceded in death
by his mom, dad and sister. I also think that Doug went home with Brian
for Christmas, so he may not have had any family living. While it is
still shocking and heartbreaking that he is dead, hopefully he is happier
now and is with his family.
i don't think it matters, necessarily, how doug died. the fact is that he has died. he will be missed on Workout. the show portrayed him to be kind, friendly, smart, wise, healthy, and gorgeous. he was just another positive presence on television for the gay community that is now gone. this sucks. he was awesome and fabulous, and a great role-model for gays and heteros alike.
