Christopher Horner's Daily Show queen-out

horner.jpgDid anyone catch The Daily Show last night and cringe into their couch cushions at conservative author Christopher Horner's "queen out" when host Jon Stewart said "the Gays"? I felt like I was in the locker room of a very progressive junior high, where the childish taunt of one meathead fell on deaf ears. Horner was on the show to pitch his preposterous-sounding book, The Politically Incorrect Guide to Global Warming and Environmentalism, which debunks the global warming theory and calls the environmentalist cause a communist conspiracy, or something similarly pig-headed (and by the way, I had to go to a website called ConservativeBookService to find the exact name of his book -- so if I disappear in the next few days, you'll know that they've sent the men in bad navy suits to take me away for "reprogramming"). Anyway, if you've ever seen conservatives on the show, you'll know that Stewart is courteous but doesn't let them off the hook -- he asks legitimate questions and tries to keep the crowd (which is the studio audience equivalent of liberals packed in light oil) from badgering the guest -- which he really doesn't have to do. Usually the guest, knowing that he's in enemy waters, is smart enough to concede a few points and tries not to get combative. Not true for Horner -- he became defensive, bullyish, and rather rude. At one point he referred to "The Greens" (meaning the environmentalists) and Stewart jokingly said that the term was kind of like "The Gays", and Horner replied with a lisping, "Oh, be nice!". Needless to say, it went over like a lead balloon, with Stewart visibly stunned by the bad joke and the audience reloading their tomato-hurlers. The interview was really pretty awesome, from a rubbernecking perspective -- it's always nice to see a blowhard hang himself with his own airtime. You can watch it on the Comedy Central website.
