Eric Millegan, Rupert Everett, and books!

rupertmaddy.jpgYesterday I got a little behind and forgot to blog about the AfterElton main page articles, so today you get three for the price of one. Our first interview is with Rupert Everett (Another Country, My Best Friend's Wedding) who chat about his new book, Madonna, and his career. Everett has said before that being openly gay hurt his career and it's hard not to wonder if that might not be the case. Obviously, Hollywood is littered with the careers of straight men who never quite made it to that next level. But after My Best Friend's Wedding, which Everett all but stole from Julia Roberts, I thought for sure we'd see a ton of him. On the other hand, he did make The Next Best Thing and starring in that might be enough to kill even Tom Hanks' career. Face it, Madonna movies are just that lethal. millegan2.jpgOur second interview is with Eric Millegan, one of the stars of Bones'. Perhaps it's a generational thing, or a matter of being more a character actor, but Millegan sees his coming out in 2003 as having not harmed his career at all. But Millegan also wonders if a million dollars had been on the line, whether he might have stayed in the closet. Interesting question. Finally, we've got our monthly book column which coincidentally includes Everett's new autobiography Red Carpets and other Banana Skins, as well as a review of award-winning author Colm Toibin's collection of short stories, Mothers and Sons.
