In the City is Out the Door

olivier.jpgA number of folks have written me asking what happened to BBC America's sudser In the City. Well, I checked with BBCA and sure enough, they've yanked the show off the air due to low ratings. For those following the show, this is obviously a downer, but judging from the comments left on previous posts about the show, I'm not sure there are going to be that many mourners. I can't say I was terribly caught up in it, but I was looking forward to seeing Adam (Philip Olivier) come out. He wasn't your usual, obviously closeted gay guy. He was a school teacher that hung out with a bunch of straight guys who, I suspect, would've been fairly supportive of him. Oh, well. Not to be, I guess. maxx_2.jpgPerhaps BBCA fans can hope that Skins, another British soap might makes it way here. I wrote about Skins several weeks ago and AfterElton reader Sam has been keeping us posted on Maxxie, the show's gay teen character. Not much has happened with Maxxie, but apparently things heated up this week as one of the show's straight teen characters approached Maxxie about trying something new. And judging from this YouTube clip, it's not the latest version of Pepsi that has him intrigued. And the second clip is of Maxxie and his best friend, Anwar, who looks like he doesn't quite get the whole gay thing just yet. I'll keep you posted if BBC America ships the series over here.
