Candorville on Tim Hardaway

I first discovered Candorville a couple of years ago and have been hooked ever since. It's one of the more modern, political strips out there. Think Doonesbury, but more hip. It centers on the lives of a trio of inner city folks including struggling writer Lemont Brown, his good friend, the upwardly mobile Susan Garcia, and Clyde (AKA C-Dog) who is the opposite of Lemont and Susan in pretty much every way. Even though the strip is drawn by Darrin Bell, a straight man, the strip doesn't hesitate to take on gay issues. Just this past week or so gay topics have come up twice. While it would be really nice to see a mainstream comic strip center on a gay character (the closest thing we have is 9 Chickweed Lane, which is pretty darn good) I do appreciate Candorville's take on gay topics, plus it's funny, well-written and drawn, plus it's smart. It also helps balance out the karmic imbalance that is the execrable dreck called Mallard Fillmore. Here are the two strips I mentioned. Be sure to visit Candorville online or read it in your local paper--if such a thing even still exists anymore. candorville23665490070226.gifcandorville20012218370228.gif
