Wonder Woman and Joss Whedon

d36b8190.gif You can put this in the "I failed to notice this" file from early last month. Joss Whedon (the creative force behind Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly) is no longer attached to write and direct the film adaptation of the comic book character Wonder Woman. a525edb0.gifI'm personally disappointed because I loved Whedon's portrayal of gays and women in his shows. According to his blog, he and the studio behind the picture parted ways because of creative differences. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the movie slated for 2009 will use the George Perez revamp of Wonder Woman's character from the late 80s. To me, with Perez's focus on Greek myth, this is the definitive Wonder Woman who went from being a shadow of the more powerful Superman and more enigmatic Batman to being a force in her own right. 250px-Astonishing19.jpgTons of gay men like myself love her. Some perhaps because of the campy 1970s Lynda Carter version. Others like me just find her cool. I admit that I'm a serious geek. But, hey, it takes a gay village. For me, it's been a life long addiction to take charge women heroes later feed by Xena The Warrior Princess and Buffy. Whedon is working on another movie called Goners. He is also currently the writer on both Astonishing X-men and Buffy The Vampire Slayer comic books. The Buffy comic book is written as the eight season of the show, if it had stayed on the air. I've not read the Buffy comic book yet, but I'm an avid fan of Astonishing X-men. So, I got to check Buffy out. If you are a fan of comic books, I'll be in line with you.
