Two more international pop stars outed

anthony.jpg Towleroad made mention today of an Australian pop star, Anthony Callea, who was outed by a radio talk show host. Callea had fervently denied gay rumors while he was an Australian Idol contestant, and has yet to respond to the story. Aussie news outlet The Daily Telegraph is reporting that fan reaction to the news has been overwhelmingly supportive, which is nice to hear. Maybe not the biggest news for us here in the US, but it does come close at the heels of another international pop star outing last week: Mexican singer and soap star Christian Chavez, member of the band RBD. Apparently photos of the singer exchanging vows and rings with another man in Canada in 2005 surfaced, and Chavez responded by coming out publicly. In his words, the photos:
"... show a part of me, a part that I was not prepared to speak of in fear of rejection, of criticism, but especially for my family and its consequences. I think it's time to grow up, not only as a human being, but also as an artist."
christian chavez2 copy1.jpgChavez is the one in the bottom pic with the red hair. Good for him and for his relationship -- I'm sure this will take a lot of stress off of it. So who's next, I wonder? Let's hope that this trend continues stateside -- although it's frustrating that it still takes leaked photos or a loose-lipped reporter to drive these guys out into the open. Hopefully, given the continued positive response from fans in these situations, it will become increasingly easier for celebs to come out on their own terms.
