Beyond Brokeback book on its way

brokeback.jpg There are fans, and then there are FANS -- and in the case of gay cowboy epic Brokeback Mountain, there are apparently a good number of the latter. We just learned about a forthcoming book that compiles the essays of 130 people who have been deeply affected by the film. The book, entitled Beyond Brokeback: The Impact of a Film, aims to convey "the remarkable power of the film Brokeback Mountain to affect the lives of all sorts of people—straight and gay, old and young, male and female—on six continents." The description continues:
Beyond Brokeback contains 178 personal essays, stories, and quotes from people who had little in common, other than a sense of personal upheaval after seeing the film. Some of the essays include: - Mejack, whose viewing of Brokeback Mountain triggered his memory of a long-lost love and set him on a quest to find out his love's fate; - Carol and Heidi, two women who found an unexpected love and had to deal with the repercussions in their lives; and - Maggie, a research scientist, who was inspired by the film to write her first poetry.
Not being a poetry buff, that last one scares me just the tiniest bit -- but regardless, it looks like if you're a FAN of the film (or even just a fan of the film), there will be something in the book that will catch your fancy. The book, which grew out of the Ultimate Brokeback Forum website, ships in April -- for more into, check out the project's official website. brokeback2.jpg (Side note: I can't believe that in three months of writing for this blog, this is my first Brokeback post. I'm treating myself to a cupcake to mark the occasion.)
