"The Big Gay Musical" starts shooting today
Gays love musicals, the popular logic goes, so this was probably inevitable: A new queer indie film called The Big Gay Musical goes before the cameras today in New York City. According to a press release, the film will boast dozens of Broadway veterans, including Liz McCartney (Taboo, South Pacific), Jim Newman (Curtains, Minnelli on Minnelli), current Mr. Broadway Marty Thomas (Xanadu), Andre Ward (Xanadu), Joey Dudding (A Chorus Line, La Cage aux Folles, Xanadu, Wicked, The Secret Garden), as well as Trick co-star Steve Hayes. The movie tells the story of two gay stage performers: Paul has given up his search for Mr. Right and wants to slut it up like the chorus boys in his show, while Eddie has to juggle his sexuality, his religious faith and his intolerant family. The one potential fly in this ointment: The Big Gay Musical is being directed by Casper Andreas, the hacky auteur behind gay indie duds like Slutty Summer and A Four Letter Word. Here’s hoping that showtunes guide him to better filmmaking. Submitted by on Fri, 2008-10-24 11:17. |
