New on DVD: Gay shorts and live Madonna

Boycrazy, a new collection of queer shorts from the festival circuit and a live Madonna release liven up the week's new DVDs.

The anthology Boycrazy features a half-dozen acclaimed gay short films, including Tom Gustafson's Fairies, which was later expanded into the feature film Were the World Mine, and Brian Harris Krensky's comedic ode to teen sexting, Dish. The shorts programs are often one of the best parts of any film festival, so here's a good way to enjoy some award-winners without having to leave the house.

I have a theory, based on purely anecdotal evidence, that gay men most like the Madonna they came out to. So if you're older, you pine for Like a Virgin or Like a Prayer or Ray of Light Madonna, but the young-uns are more about Confessions on a Dance Floor. It's probably the latter, then who will be more into Sticky and Sweet Tour, her new concert DVD, featuring highlights from her four-night engagement in Buenos Aires, along with 30 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage.

DVDs I haven't seen but suspect might be worth a look: Party Down: Season One, the cult cable sitcom starring Jane Lynch (pre-Glee) and Adam Scott (pre–Independent Spirit Award nomination). Also getting good reviews has been The Big Gay Musical, but I've been burned by this director before, so you're on your own, kids.
