New on DVD: Remembering "Runway," battlin' Beyoncé and weak "Mysteries"

Kenley Collins (front) terrorizes Tim Gunn and fellow contestants in Project Runway Season 5

Hey, remember that Project Runway show? It's coming back soon, and we finally get Season 5 on DVD to get us back in the mood after a long absence.

Read on for more of this week's new DVDs!

I actually had to pull up Wikipedia to remember Project Runway: Season Five, premiering on DVD this week, and then it all came back to me—Korto! That bitch Kenley! Jarrell and his stupid hats! Relive the magic as we all look forward to the long-awaited debut of Project Runway 6 on Lifetime August 20th.

Speaking of long-awaited, we kept hearing about the film adaptation of Michael Chabon's The Mysteries of Pittsburgh for years and years. Then it came out, and seemingly within days, it was never discussed again. Find out why as it limps onto the New Releases shelf of your favorite DVD emporium.

Who says they don't make camp anymore? If you can get through the big knock-down-drag-out catfight of Obsessed, where Beyoncé and Ali Larter smack each other up and down a suburban McMansion, without laughing, your soul is dead inside. Larter plays the Fatal Attraction–esque stalker who sets her cap for Beyoncé's hubby Idris Elba, but Ms. Knowles ain't having that. Oh, Obsessed also features a dopey queen who unwittingly helps Larter in her homewrecking schemes, so that's a bonus.

Ali Larter

Ali Larter rules!!! She's one of my girl crushes. I'll watch her in anything.

Nothing to do with this post...

Alonso,

Just caught a doc you contributed to for The Valley of The Dolls DVD a few years back. Your comments were great! Thought I would mention it since we were watching it the other night.

How singularly innocent I look this morning.

Thanks!

So glad you dug it; that was a lot of fun to work on.

Valley of the Dolls

"Obsessed" looks like it has the making of a "Valley"-level work.  Of course, reaching the "Valley" is no easy task.

Suggestion

I think we need a gay camp movie suggestion on Fridays as part of the Best Gay Week Ever blog post. If you are gay and haven't seen Mommie Dearest, Showgirls, AND Valley of the Dolls, you should have your gay card taken away.

Now to qualify does Obsessed have a girl fight that involves weave removal?

How singularly innocent I look this morning.

Valley of the Dolls

Eek!  My gay card is in peril!  I’ve not yet seen Showgirls.

I’ll never forget the evening, years and years ago, when I was dating a slightly older man and I was still in my “newbie” phase, going through his video collection to pick a movie to watch.  He was passing over Valley of the Dolls, assuming I’d seen it, and I mentioned aloud, “Valley of the Dolls, I’ve never seen that.”  He turned to me in utter shock and exclaimed “You’ve NEVER watched Valley of the Dolls???” and promptly snatched it off the shelf.  “We’re watching it NOW.”  LOL, I got my gayducation.

Good Suggestion

Valley of the Dolls is on my Netflix que as sadly, I have only seen clips of it.  However, I have kept humming that damn theme song periodically for the last 10 years "Gotta get off... Gotta get off... this merry go round..."

I think you know where I'm at with Mommie Dearest.

I haven't seen Showgirls in 14 years.  Time to check that out again.  That movie is campapalooza.
