New on DVD: Streisand, kitties and a deadly dong
It's an exceedingly mixed bag of new DVDs this week; while the movies are mostly the cast-offs that wound up in theaters in January (Bride Wars, anyone?), you'll love some of the straight-to-DVD making their debut appearances on the New Releases shelf. Read on for more!
If you're of the mind that Barbra Streisand's singing is like buttah, then stock up on the English muffins for The Concerts. This new three-DVD set includes live performances from her 1994 and 2006 tours, as well as the making-of documentary for her hit The Broadway Album. Probably nothing here for the uninitiated, but if you're in the cult of Barbra, you just got a new object of worship.
Newborn kittens and puppies are the most adorable things on Earth, right? So it stands to reason that they'd be even cuter in the womb! OK, maybe not. But thanks to National Geographic: In the Womb—Cats & Dogs, you'll get to see your favorite fuzzy four-footed creatures while they're still slimy, wrinkly fetuses. Um, yay?
Speaking of slimy and wrinkly, Ron Jeremy's penis plays the title role in the horror-comedy One-Eyed Monster. Set on a remote porn shoot, the film stars Jeremy as himself; when an alien creature kills the adult-film legend and unleashes his penis on a killing spree, the co-stars and crew of the blue movie must band together to stop the creature. With a cast that has everyone from Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Amber Benson to XXX queen Veronica Hart, this one's got "cult fave" written all over it. Watch the only slightly NSFW trailer for One-Eyed Monster:
This 1959 melodrama gives us a soap opera of the bayous, as a Louisiana man marries the woman his brother had intended to make his bride. All hell breaks loose in the swamps, but I suspect that the movie can't possibly live up to the poster. If I'm wrong, tell me so. Submitted by on Tue, 2009-04-28 11:05. |
