Kish to Ring in the New Year With a Bang

It’s no secret that the romance between One Life To Live’s Oliver Fish and Kyle Lewis, played by out actor Scott Evans and Brett Claywell respectively, is a favorite around these parts. Once the storyline began this past summer, the couple quickly became a hit in daytime with fans and critics alike. One big reason why — beyond the strong writing and terrific acting — is that the show has treated the couple just like any other romantic pairings in Llanview — and that includes in the bedroom.
OLTL doesn’t close the bedroom door in regards to it’s gay characters.
While other shows avoid even the mere discussion of their gay character’s sex lives, refer to it in the vaguest of terms or simply get rid of their gay characters altogether, OLTL recently gave fans one of the most romantic and sensual love scenes between two men ever on network television when Kyle and Oliver attempted to make love for the first time a couple of weeks ago.
While that interlude was interrupted by the gay-bashing of Nick, Kyle’s ex, Kyle and Oliver will reportedly finally get their groove on in scenes set to air next week when the couple ring in the New Year with a bang.
The show’s head writer Ron Carlivati was interviewed by Daytime Confidential for a podcast last week where he discussed what he intended for Kyle and Oliver from the moment they decided to go with the story.
OLTL head writer Ron Carlivati
My goal was if this couple got together, they should get the same payoff as any other couple. For a soap opera couple, it usually culminates in, 'when will this couple make love?' and when they do we usually pay it off with a very nice love scene.” Carlivati said. “My goal was if we are going to do that, if we're going to go there with Kyle and Fish, and they're ultimately going to overcome all their little obstacles and get together, then we should just show at least as much as we show with any other couple. Frank agreed and the network agreed and that's what we've done.
So, yes, Kyle and Oliver will finally get their special moment, but there’s still plenty of trouble ahead for them as Carlivati also teases in the interview that Nick is going to continue to cause problems for the couple.
While the exact date of the “consummation” episode isn’t known, we’ll be sure get sure to get the information to you when we hear. There will be a liveblog of the historic event and we’ll have the clips available for those who miss the episode … or want to watch it more than once. You know who you are!
