Gavin Creel, Cheyenne Jackson to bring their talents to Broadway Impact's marriage equality rally this Sunday

I've got particular personal reasons to be excited about this news, but I'll get to that in a minute. First, let's get the word out that out Hair star Gavin Creel's marriage equality advocacy group, Broadway Impact, is holding a rally in midtown Manhattan (the "Dance Belt") this coming Sunday to support Governor David Paterson's same-sex marriage bill.

Stars like Creel, Cheyenne Jackson, Cynthia Nixon, Audra MacDonald, and the cast of Hair will be on-hand to perform and raise awareness/spirits from 5-7, so if you're in the city get out there and show your support while enjoying some of Broadway's finest.

And now to the personal part: My fella and I are getting married on Saturday, in midtown Manhattan, about 5 blocks from where this rally will take place the very next day. We don't have quadruple-threat Broadway hunk-a-dunks on hand to entertain, but we think it'll be a blast, and I'm going to encourage all our guests, friends and family to check out the Broadway Impact gathering.

  

The very idea that the day following our wedding we'll be going to a rally to fight for the right to even GET married is, to put it plainly, complete and utter horseshit. We should be soaking in a tub of hot rosewater and ordering margaritas from room service, not cramming into Times Square with tourists and chorus boys ... but if it's what has to be done, we're there with f*cking bells on.

    On a side note,when I first saw the front page picture of this article I immediately thought OMG is that Cheyenne`s boyfriend,finally agreed to be photographed?Lol. It was so funny.I`m very embarrassed right now.

    i do have a question....if it isn't legal yet in NY, how will it happen exactly? is it basically going to be seen as a 'civil union' for the time being in NY?

    Congratulations.  I hope everything goes well, both for you and your partner, and for the rally, too.  I don't think it's such a bad thing to do, going to a rally just after your marriage ceremony.  You have a lifetime of rosewater baths to look forward to.  ;D

    We really appreciate the kind wishes! And Liz: NY will recognize same-sex marriages that are performed in states where it's legal. So we're tying the knot legally in Connecticut, but having our "real" wedding here, and hopefully someday soon will be able to make it official in NY as well.

    Don't forget your home-state of Iowa. We are a great place to spend the holidays. Winter in Iowa can be very charming, as you know. And your family in Iowa would no doubt love to see you and your husband for Xmas and New Year's celebrations.

    Speaking of Iowa, it was terrific to see our state in the Star Trek movie. It was wonderful they showed an advanced starship being built in Iowa since Iowa has the highest percentage of young people in the nation that go on to higher education - have to like anything that helps break the rest of the country's notion that Iowa is filled with hill-billies.

    it really great to heard that you and your hubby getting married after the pro 8 in California.(so sad).but hope that your marriage can effect to other people to support same-sex marriage.(wherever i can't watch the ceremony cause i am on other earth.)
