Adam Lambert cleans house on last night's "American Idol"

Last night "theatrical" contestant Adam Lambert mopped the stage with the competition on American Idol, and then polished it with whatever it was that Paula Abdul was wearing. He performed "Black or White" with flair on an evening of poorly-chosen Michael Jackson songs and lackluster performances.

We've been watching Lambert carefully, and we're not the only ones. Just yesterday we mentioned an LA Times piece that asked whether a gay Idol hopeful would ever be allowed to present himself as such, using Lambert as a model based on photo and videos that have surfaced since he made the final 36.

It's interesting that as we get to know the contestants better as the pool is whittled down, we learn nothing about Lambert other than that he lives in LA and has supportive parents. We asked the show directly if Lambert is openly gay and were told that the show doesn't comment on the sexuality of its contestants. Funny, because most of the other competitors have mentioned their spouses, children, significant others, etc. in their bio videos.

Is Lambert being given that opportunity, or is the decision being made for him? At this point, seeing as how he's a likely bet for the finals, we may never know. 

Off-topic: Any guesses as to what the "big twist" is that they're set to announce tonight? Is it too much to hope that it has something to do with the phone sex snafu that the show ran into recently? Heck, I'd much sooner sit through some dirty talk from Kris than another effing Ford commercial...
