Adam Lambert was photographed leaving an LA club last night holding hands with rumored boyfriend Drake Labry ... on the first day of Gay Pride Month, no less.
More pics over here.
More proof? More tease? A little from Column A, a little from Column B? I mean, look at that smile ... that's the smile of a man in love with more than fame, isn't it?

Aww - so cute
ADAM is a WINNER
haha
someone just texted me and said "adam has a porn star from the 70's looking boyfriend"
ya know...this could be a friend that he likes to hold hands with....i really would hate to out him eventhougheverybodyhasalready
:-P
70s????
exactly...
I said the same thing on Towleroad and somebody reamed me for it. Well... if the guy didn't look like a porn star, I wouldn't have said anything. I'm really getting tired of the "how dare the gays attack another gay guy" thing. As if they have immunity just because they're gay.
In hindsight, I am actually
Shy....
He's not gay....
Until he actually comes out... holding hands in a picture with another man or not..... lets not all jump to conclusions here.... we all think he's gay, it set off the DAR big time with all of us, but it's his business who he's with a who he's doing it to. He was the winner regardless of the actual outcome.... he'll do well for years to come if he plays his card right. I've asked it before, "Why does a person have to be "gay" before he's just a person?" Why does he have to be your gay friend rather than just your friend? Are we actually that insecure that we have to look for hero’s and people to look to to make us look good, or feel good?
i gotta ask....
if it is true about the AI contract about not letting on about being gay....
whats the reason? votes loss? too much publicity? bad publicity?
if today i went on AI, they said "sign this. dont ever mention your girlfriend. patty may mention her husband though, because thats okay...but we cant let anyone know you're a woman who sleeps with another woman..."
i would not sign it. I'm not calling Adam out, but i'm really confused as to these reports of "well, he was always out.." and "the contract says he cant come out"
WHAT? makes no sense. what am i missing? the whole thing is so strange.
Yeah I'm a bit confused
I think it depends on how you talk about it
http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jeff_lange/archive/2009/06/01/kris-allen-at-dhs.aspx
It could be contractual, it could be 'you probably won't make it far if Middle America knows for sure'. Adam has been playing things on the edge, all things considered, but the whole thing's a farce.
How tall is he?
6'3...
How tall?
Adam is 6'1".
You can find other pics of Drake on the web, where he doesn't look 80's - 90's porn star at all. Looks like he vacillates back and forth on “beard or no beard”.
Great!
This is great. I'm glad to see Adam out and about, being happy, holding hands with his boyfriend and being proud. This is enough of a confirmation for me, if you're holding hands with your boyfriend you're obviously gay.
I would like him to come out though, just to stop the speculations. Can you believe it? People are still speculating, even after these pictures. Fangirls still say he might be bi! Coming out would make it easier for him to focus on what's important, his music. If he loses some moronic, deluded fans in the process, then be it. He doesn't need fans like that anyway.
Harvey Milk: You gotta give 'em hope.
So Apparently the ony way folks will think he's not closeted
is if he stages a live sex show on a platform in the middle of Disney Land on Gay Day?
We require less "proof" before putting people to death then some folks here are requiring from the very very always out Adam Lambert about whether or not his a big old MO!
Making out with not 1, not 2 but 3 different guys with full on tongue, deep throat action wasn't enough
2 of the make out partners later being revealed to be very out and very gay (Hey Drake, Hey Brad) wasn't enough
Now he goes to see a show with his boyfriend (who was in all but 3 of the AI tapings) and they are not just hugging (as he always does with Kris) and just just holding hands (which a man might do with another man for a minute even if not gay) but interlaced fingers and strolling couple like into said club and then back out again to see Guys and Dolls.
Still not proof enough.
SERIOUSLY?!! SERIOUSLY?!!!
I never thought I'd see the day when on man had to work so hard to convince people that he was gay.
Meanwhile, people just accept that any number of other celebrities are big closet cases without a shread of "proof" or even evidence of them being gay adjacent.
I hope Adam Lambert never utters the words "I'm Gay" ever!
Has the world gone coo coo for cocoa puffs bananas mad?
p.s. Ed, I've seen it written that he is 6.1, strawberry blond (very similar coloring to his father) and riddled with freckles (particularly his face)
"Heterosexuality is not normal, it's just common." (Dorothy Parker)
That's a show I might pay to see
I don't think Adam needs to stage a live sex show at Disneyland on Gay Day, but I'd certainly buy a ticket if he chooses to!
FWIW, I've never said he was closeted, nor that he was hiding it. I have, however chastised people like Kara, for spilling the beans so directly, when she didn't even answer the question that Barbara asked. And I don't dislike her for that because I think Adam's hiding anything, because I don't think he is.
What I have said, and watched it be twisted over and over again, is that the act of him formally acknowledging it is his to do, because it looks like he's using that specific act as part of his marketing campaign, which gives it an actual monetary value. I never actually thought I'd see an up and coming mega-artist get to use his a formal announcement of his well known gay-ness as a financial asset. But that's the neat thing about marketing - value is where the customer base is willing to pay for it, whether there is a rational basis to that willingness or not.
So don't get me wrong - I think he's masterfully using all the aspects of his life to increase his celebrity, and his career. When I occassionally rail against Kara or somebody speaking for him, it's because I see them decreasing what Adam has been able to value an "announcement" at.
As someone who has spent his adult life marketing and selling products, that, let's face it, nobdoy needs, but many want, it's been like watching a master class of how to build anticipation and value about information that everybody knows. I'm in absolute awe of Adam and his advisors. They have the media eating out of their hands, and Adam gets to laugh all the way to the bank, either from a check from Rolling Stone or just increased media attention. And he's doing it while still going on dates in WeHo and living his life. It's fascinating to me.
As for the stats, I'm hoping Liz has the height right (purely for my own greedy puerile reasons), but you just added to the picture - I love a guys with freckles! So lay off the foundation, Adam!
agree
You and I seem to be alone on this. I also believe that this is Adams life and it is up to him to come out the way he wants to. It isn't ours to decide. So many here seem to feel they "Own" Adam, like he's signed a contract with them. I don't get it.
I read at the AI site that Adam is 6'1", I've read 6'4" elsewhere. I'm 6'1" and even with heels, if he is too, than the tallest person he ever seems to stand next to is 5'9". I think AI made a mistake. But we all know he's a big fairy, either way.
in this photo:
Adam seems to be saying, "Honey, this is what I was trying to tell you, but no, you had to do this tonight..."
1000% YES!!
I couldn't agree more with everything you said, this included!
These obsessed people are outright offensive and need to get a life (that includes you, Perez Hilton).
word up...
word up to everything you said.
my opinion? we need to start letting people be who they are. stop with these dumb contracts. stop constantly asking about sexuality. if people DO want to ask about it, then just do so instead of stammering and finding other ways to address it.
Maybe next season AI won't have such a stupid contract (if there is such a contract)
if adam, jenny, peter or mary is gay, or straight...they should be just that without having to prove that by a statement or announcement or whatever else.
obviously, i can go out with whomever and do whatever and dont have to worry about the whole nation knowing....so i guess to me, its easier said than done....for now.
Don't say it!
I agree with your statement that you hope Adam never actually says "I'm gay". I hope he never, ever says it. Though I'm guessing he will, and that's fine too. The point is, it's HIS life, and he literally has no obligations of any kind to us. He's not hiding, he's simply being himself and being free. That's the ultimate world I want to live in, where people aren't scrambling all over themselves to put labels on everything and everyone. Just be who you are, and live your life. I have come to the point where I think it's a genuine hang-up for us to focus so much on Adam self-labeling himself. It just strikes me as being insecure. He's being EXACTLY what he wants to be, and living his life EXACTLY as he wants to live it.
And I still don't get this notion, as alluded to again here by Ed, and discussed at length on other threads, why people have to pussy-foot around the issue with Adam. As you say, Darcolover, it's totally obvious Adam is out, so why would anyone (even Kara Dioguardi!) have to censor their observations and somehow cover for him? It simply makes no sense to me whatever.
OK, maybe I'm cynical
OK, I thought about whether I wanted to wade into this or not - and I'm really not looking to touch off a debate. It's just my view.
There are two Adam Lambert's in the world today. There's the happy, smiling Adam Lambert that we see above in the photograph, in the pictures at Burning Man, etc., who is a happy, out comfortable person. And, in my opinion, a master of marketing for Adam Lambert(TM).
Adam Lambert(TM) is the entertainer that exploded onto the scene via Idol. He's a product, not a human being. He performs on stage like the second coming of Freddie Mercury (that's a good thing). He has assets: he's attractive, his voice, his stage presence. He has another asset, somewhat less tangible, and that is the public's appetite for him to say "I'm gay."
Adam Lambert has probably been saying those two words for many years, and thinks nothing of them. He's totally comfortable in his skin. Adam Lambert is smart though - and knows he could fade before he can capitalize on Idol and get some recordings out for Adam Lambert(TM). So he's gotta look at his assets.
Which is where the weird supply and demand thing comes in. He hasn't supplied the general public with the quote, that they mysteriously (not saying I understand it) seem to need. So there's demand for the information. It therefore has value in the market to Adam Lambert(TM).
When Kara answered a question Barbara didn't ask, she took value from #4, the story of Adam Lambert(TM) that the public has assigned. Adam Lambert has fanned the flames by talking about pink elephants, building the value of #4 for Adam Lambert(TM), but never giving the public the words it seems so desperate for, even though Adam Lambert has probably been saying them to his family and friends for a decade.
It's the nature of celebrity, and it sells magazines, drives web traffic, sells advertising. And I am in awe that Adam Lambert can manage the perception and fever pitch of speculation about Adam Lambert(TM) to increase his value in the marketplace, while still being comfortably Adam Lambert, and going clubbing with his boyfriend.
He could teach Paris Hilton something about promotion.
OK, I think I at least now
OK, I think I at least now understand what you're saying. Though to a large extent you're saying the same thing as Nukely, which should give you pause right there!
But I think you're overlooking two things. First, since EVERYONE is talking and speculating about him, and the speculation isn't whether he's gay but how and when he'll say it, nothing Kara said or could say could damage his "brand" in any way. It's just another voice in the cacophony. In other words, based on your business theory of the situation, Kara did not harm his earning power in any way, and COULD NOT harm his earning power in any way.
Second, based on what we've seen of Adam and how he handles things, I can't imagine him wanting Kara or anyone to stifle the expression of their opinions. Can you possibly imagine Adam going to Kara and saying, "what the heck are you doing, you're screwing up my business plan; don't be talking this gay stuff"? No, neither can I.
I think your perception of what you consider his "tenuous" position is also inaccurate. There's no way his voice is of limited value, there's no way the Idol tour will harm him, and there's no way that anyone going past a "hush hush" attitude toward his sexuality will have any impact on him.
Lastly, I think Kara and others talking so matter-of-factly have been great for the gay movement in general, and for that reason I think Adam would be all for it. His whole life is an evocation of the "it's no big deal" outlook, and casual talk about people being gay (lacking any malicious intent toward people who WANT to maintain their privacy) is a huge advance. Anything that gets rid of the whispering "shhh...don't talk too loud, but I think so and so is gay" is a good thing.
Close, but maybe I'm still not clear
Dennis, I've missed you and Nukely getting into to it regularly, but never really thought I'd be having a back-and-forth with you.
We've gotten closer to an understanding, so let me try and move us closer still. First, not that I actually disagree with Nukely's other point about it being his story (it is, and Adam Lambert is telling it the way he wants to), that's actually not the point I'm making.
Second, I really think you're reading something negative into what I'm saying, and it's just not there. I'm a fan of his singing, I'm a fan of how he seems to live his life, and I'm actually endlessly amused by the way he manipulates the press. There's nothing but admiration coming from me.
As to Kara, and why what she said was different than what we do here, or EW did on their cover story, or any other outlet endlessly hanging on Adam Lambert(TM) answering precisely the question the press asks, instead of the one they want to ask but don't have the balls to: She's from inside the machine, which implies access and knowledge that others don't have. That's how she subtracts value from the asset (his story). I never said she damaged the brand - that would mean I thought Adam didn't have any intention of ever addressing it directly. I'm utterly convinced he does, and soon.
Tenuous? I don't think his other assets, as I've defined them are precisely tenuous, but the entertainment consuming public has a very short attention span, and I think it's reasonable to assume we won't see an Adam album until Christmas or spring. That's forever. Those assets will serve him, but they're of limited value to him for 6-12 months. Meanwhile, we'll fall in-and-out of love with a lot of media darlings.
As for your final point about it being so casual a topic as being a great advance for gay rights? I totally agree that the day it really is a casual topic, we'll have arrived. I just don't think we're there yet, it's still a marketable asset, and I want Adam Lambert(TM) to use all his assets to their fullest so he can be all that he can be.
And I totally think he's doing it in a smart, caluculated way, and getting to have his cake and eat it too. Bravo!
I do see your point in a lot
I do see your point in a lot of the things you're saying, but I guess we'll basically just have to agree to disagree, which is totally cool to me. Alternate opinions, expressed with mutual respect, are what make the world go round.
However, I'll end with one thing that I think would be very hard to argue against. Kara Dioguardi says she never thought of Adam as being in the closet. Supposedly that "outs" him in some way, even though she was expressing her opinion, not stating she knew for a fact. Then at the top of this very thread we see a picture of Adam holding hands with a guy, and looking quintessentially gay. Add in the previous multitudinous indicators of his gayness.
OK, with that scenario laid out, juxtapose Kara's expressed opinion with Adam's new set of hand-holding pictures. How can the justaposition of those two things lead to any logical conclusion other than this: Kara is revealing NOTHING beyond what Adam is revealing himself. There is simply no secret to keep. I just don't see any possible logical backflips that can get past that. In fact, to move past logical thought patterns into emotional pronouncement: it strikes me as head-scratchingly bizarre to tiptoe around something that's been laid out in multiple ways as a fact by the person involved.
Another logical thought progression. Let's say that Adam was playing coy with his earlier answers so as to make a media splash with his "I'm gay" announcement. (Though I for one don't think that's his motive at all.) He would not hold hands with a guy and pose for pictures. You can't tote up all his actions and words and not see that he WANTS people to know he's gay.
But bottom line, juxtapose Kara's comments and Adam's hand-holding pictures, and I don't see how you could still see the harm in Kara's comments.
Fools Pause
I disagree about Kara; her opinion has weight. On the other hand the perception is that Perez Hilton has never met Adam, and Perez Hilton is crazy, and so is his judgment. The judgment of people like him doesn't matter. But Kara has worked beside Adam, he sang her song, if anyone besides his mother would know for sure (in the publics mind) then it is one of the judges. In that way she took steam out of the value of what Adam has a right to present for himself.
Hers was the first "opinion" that could be believed to come from experience and fact, plus she has a "face", people know and trust her. The press splashed her "outing" all over and the headlines didn't read "Adam is gay, in case you didn't know", Rather "Kara outs Adam on The View." Not nice, Kara, I say.
See my comment above to Ed.
See my comment above to Ed.
I'll add: Kara didn't out Adam since he WAS ALREADY OUT, gloriously and proudly so. You can't out them if they're out. Pretty simple.
And no, she couldn't take any steam out of any announcement from Adam. See my comments about the justaposition of her comments with Adam's hand-holding pictures. There is NO steam in any comments about Adam being gay; the steam is in how he expresses it ("I like the top") and how he shows it (yummy pictures).
Lastly, Nukely you know I love you, even if it's a little bit like that crazy uncle most people have! You can easily avoid me by not replying to every post I make. And don't take me so seriously! :) (Did I just make a happy face??? Yuk.)
You can't out
Yes, you do remind me of that uncle we aren't suppose to talk about. But let's see if I get you Unk, "You can't out who's out and you can't in who's in" Doesn't that pretty much cover your philosophy?
Well, I'm not disputing philosophy. I'm not doubting or questioning perceptions either. You and I both perceive Adam to be contently out, as do 80% of the people who come here. (The other 20% perceive him to be flamboyantly out.) And we know we are right. We don't need anyone to tell us any different, just as we didn't need anyone to tell us any different about Tom Robinson (maybe not the best example, but you know what I mean.)
Read what I wrote above. I was writing about headlines. I was relating what the headlines said about Kara, not voicing my perception. Just stating a fact. Kara stole Adam's headline. It's obvious she set out to do it, too.
I love Adam. I think he deserves the very best. The upstaging that Kara did was the very unprofessional worst. Whether we knew the punch line or not, it wasn't Kara's to steal.
I'll admit that I am too
I'll admit that I am too lazy at this hour to read this entire thread of comments.
Kara only "stole" Adam's headline because she didn't lie when she was asked about it on The View. An honest answer from someone involved with American Idol is a very refreshing thing.
I'd buy that
If she actually answered the question that was posed. She didn't. Instead the second Adams name was dropped, she quickly spewed an statement that sounded like it was rehearsed in front of a mirror the night before. She wasn't looking for honesty, she wanted her name in the headlines. The effect was she got exactly what she wanted.
On another note her press junket through The View should have produced a headline about the album she's producing for Kris, not her thoughts on Adam. I call that irresponsible and selfish, you call it refreshing.
I heard an answer.
Here’s the clip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=js4Nx394ExU
I’ve quoted part of it below.
Barbara introduced the line of questioning by sourcing internet reports that said that Ryan said Adam was soon going to come out and announce his sexuality [officially].
Barbara Walters: There are those who said, ‘the black hair, the nail polish,’ that his sexuality may have made a difference. That younger women, or whatever, feeling that he was, perhaps, gay, did not vote for him. Do you think that that made any kind of a difference?
Kara: Well, first of all, I hope not. Because we should be judging on talent and, you know, viability in the music industry, and they both have that. Um, you know, I-I-I don’t’ think that Adam was ever in, so I’m not, you know, I think that he was always openly out.
She began her answer by responding directly Barbara’s immediate question. She hoped it didn’t make a difference. Then she elaborated on the criteria that she uses (and perhaps the voting public ought to?) to judge the contestants. Then she addressed the premise on which Barbara established the question (the “internet” reports that said Adam would be making a public statement about his sexuality) by stating her opinion. She answered Barbara’s follow-up in the same fashion. She addressed it all.
We obviously disagree, and this will be my last comment on the subject. I hear an answer to the question. I do not hear any dancing around the issue of Adam’s sexuality—except dancing around the topic of admitting to seeing the pictures the rest of the world saw. If this became the practice, being able to openly discuss it peacefully, frankly, and without prejudice while the show is running, (and giving the contestants the freedom to do so) that will be a huge step forward for them.
I don’t know Kara personally, nor do I know her mind to intuit what her dastardly intentions might be. I will simply have to base my opinions on her words and what seemed to me to be fumbling speech as she formed her answer.
My opinion. Feel free to disagree.
Thanks for your permission
We see her response differently. You see spontaneous fumbling, I see her fumbling to get a chance to turn the conversation to her favor, which she did.
Crazy Uncle
Hey, I meant that YOU were the crazy uncle and I was the eye-rolling nephew who always says "well, that's just Nukely being Nukely". (Though I think you knew that's what I meant. Crazy uncles are usually sly as well.)
As I said to Ed, we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. There's not much more to be said. I DID go back and read the original transcript of the View show as reported by AfterElton. In my opinion Kara's observation was TOTALLY in line with the question that was asked. Barbara was talking about the speculation by people because of eyeliner, etc., and specifically mentioned the concept of Adam's sexuality and the impact it would have on voting. In any normal context (i.e., a context where we're not inclined to be supersensitive) her answer was exactly what you'd expect someone to say. But since you (very surprisingly so for you - which I still don't understand) seem to want to pussyfoot around the concept of an obviously out guy being gay, and want everyone else to ignore the pink elephant, then you treat this situation so completely unlike you would any other.
Sir, Uncle, sir
LOL!
Good one!
Looking forward to the family reunion this summer....
ED, I think you misunderstood who I was responding to
MY P.S. was for you.
The rest of my post was not directed at you in anyway.
Seriously.
It was more of a general response to everyone who keeps saying his isn't out or isn't gay or they need proof.
Sorry if it seemed like I was talking to you.
Only the height comment was for you.

"Heterosexuality is not normal, it's just common." (Dorothy Parker)
I've said this before...
I didn't follow AI at all but caught up on some of the news/interviews online after it was over.
I respect the way Adam is handling all the 'speculation' surrounding his sexuality. I love that he is not hiding away, having a nervous breakdown because everyone thinks/knows he is gay. I love that he is not afraid that he may 'alienate' or scare away some of his fans if he just carries on being who he is. I love that he is out and about, having a great time with his boyfriend.. getting on with his life. I love that he is sporting that big, flashy smile in the picture above. =D
I've also said before that I don't give 2 shytes if Adam publicly declares "I'm gay" on the cover of RS. He shouldn't have to. If he does it, good for him.. it'd probably be because he wants to. But this idea that he "must" come out to everyone to show that he is not "ashamed to be gay" is just silly. He has said in interviews before that there are no skeletons in his closet and acknowledged the fact that he was infact the one in the kissing pictures. How much more open can a man be about his sexuality, short of inking it in bold letters on his forehead, lol.
To those who are pissed off because he has not 'declared himself' publicly - please, seriously step back and chill. I would like to ask them if THEY are queer and OUT to every member of their familes, co-workers, neighbours, acquaintances etc.
From all I have seen about Adam Lambert so far, I got a lot of respect for him and the manner in which he has handled all the AI craze and speculation. More power to him (& the cute dude he is with in that pic) ;-)
He also laughed in an
He also laughed in an interview about how Oreilly censored the making-out pictures and said that he wasn't embarrased about them, but maybe Oreilly is
"my boy"
Well, he's tweeted today a pic of the two of them accompanied by a commentary that Drake is his "boy". Anything more obvious?! ;o)
They're cuuute, btw. :o)
Who tweeted? Adam? He
True. Adam does not tweet
Why do I know this. Guh!
He made a point in a recent People Mag interview to say he has never had a twitter account and he doesn't have one now and he know's there are fake Adam Lambert twitter accounts.
He actually said "Shame on you" to the fake twitters.
"Heterosexuality is not normal, it's just common." (Dorothy Parker)
...
OK then. :o)
Damn,
You know, this is it
This is the ideal way to deal with the issue of his sexuality. This is what I have always thought he should handle it. All I wanted him to do is live his live openly and honestly without having to explain anything to anybody. Let people draw their own conclusions, if they havent already.
I do understand the power of saying the words, though. And Im all for that as well, but for someone like him this is the way it should be done.
They are cute dont they?
Boots
Different boots
Clever man...
I have to give big kudos to Adam for using this unnecessary speculation as much as possible. It was evident from day one that the man was homosexual, and yet traditional media has beaten most of America into believing that unless someone says something, its not true. Anderson Cooper? Clay Aiken? Lance Bass? Especially with ole' Andy Coop, people still believe him to be the straightest man ever! I like the game Adam's playing with the world, as its so much fun to make every 'Joe the Plumber' think outside the box for once!
