Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • The Advocate interviews Haaz Sleiman, the straight actor who plays Nurse Jackie's gay BFF, Mo-Mo.
  • Still sore at Gene Simmons for his doo-doo-headed comments about Adam Lambert? Well now you can get the best kind of revenge: Pee on him.
Cheyenne Jackson at the Broadway Impact rally

  • The Huffington Post thinks that the recent duo cabaret show that out songbirds Cheyenne Jackson and Michael Feinstein mounted at The Regency might have been more revolutionary than one might think.
  • Some queens celebrate their birthdays with go-go boys and shooters, but the Queen marks hers by granting knighthoods and OBEs (Orders of the British Empire). Among the OBE recipients this year is out actor Alan Cumming, who is recognized for his LGBT advocacy work here in the States. Sweet!
The HRC hits a hole-in-one for Orbitz (pic via Towleroad)
  • Orbitz uses the logo for the HRC (Human Rights Campaign) in its new ad, on the golf shirt of a clever traveler.
  • James Franco's "Gay-Seeming As I Wanna Be" whistle-stop tour makes its next stop: His homoerotic, penis-filled short film based on the poem "The Feast of Stephen" screens at CineVegas (and reportedly puts the gay stuff in Milk to shame).

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

This guy!

Alan Cummings

I don't have any problems about Alan Cummings OBE receiving an award, but I am confused by it. He didn't do much for gay equality in Britain before he changed his nationality to become American. And if he's being rewarded for work he's done for gays in America, why aren't other Americans similarly rewarded? Confusing, basically.

Perfect 10!!

Is that a 10 pack I´m seeing?  Totally shallow, I know :-)

I'm also confused. I thought

I'm also confused. I thought Americans can't accept knighthoods and other similar honors (an OBE is just below a knighthood, above an MBE, which the Beatles got way back when). Is Cumming an American citizen or what?

Honours

British honours are routinely awarded to foreigners, including knighthoods. Americans can accept decorations, but I believe the US Constitution forbids ennoblement of its citizens.  As a born British subject, presumably the UK Gov't felt Cumming worthy of honour despite his American naturalisation.

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire isn't 'just below a knighthood', it is an order with multiple grades from MBE and OBE medals at the low end to GBE, Knight Grand Cross, at the top.  The highest grades of the order entail a knighthood.

Dual Nationality

An OBE is the Officer of the British Empire and like every other Royal Honour (MBE, KBE, peerage) can only be awarded to British Citizens or Citizens of British Territories.  Even though Alan Cummings has American Citizenship he also retains his British Citizenship within dual nationality guidelines.

The queen may physically award these to people but she has no powers or input into who receives them - that is decided by the Prime Minister and his cabinet.  I think this is a way for the British Government to highlight that the LGBT advocacy work being done in the States is of great value and of great importance.  Or at least, I hope thats the point.

Nurse Jackie

is getting better episode by episode.I`m really looking forward to the upcoming lesbian characters, and hopefully the gay male characters will get more stuff to do.

Orbitz and briefs

Glad to see Orbitz acknowledging gay customers in some way even if its through acknowledging an organization that I have strong issues with. If anything, they made the actor ordinary looking and not a Ken or model wannabe. Gay men after all aren't always gay-bots.

And my my the briefs are impressive this morning.
