News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

AfterElton Briefs: Elton gets creamed, Leslie Jordan visits "Today", and more!

Whoopi will trade her Christian Siriano gown for a toga when she joins the cast of Xanadu

In a continued effort to bring you all that is important in the world of gay entertainment and ensure that you are being spoon-fed images of gorgeous, commoditized manflesh, we present the newly-minted AfterElton Briefs. Following the usual assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Goodbye, Yellow Brickle Road: How upset am I that when Ben & Jerry create an ice cream flavor based on my favorite Elton John song that I would actually totally like to taste (chocolate and peanut brittle?!), it's only available in Vermont? Damn hippies!!
  • We dug the pilot for Alan Ball's upcoming HBO vampire drama True Blood, and we're digging the viral marketing campaigns even more. Check out this fake vampire-inclusive dating site, Lovebitten. I particularly love the spoof of the "Rejected by eHarmony" ads and the "have you come out of the coffin" question on the registration page. (t/y Kaiser for the tip!)
  • ABC News has a story about how gay and transgender youth are coming out at an earlier age, despite the fact that their schools are doing little to support and protect them from bullying.
Leslie Jordan on The Today Show
  • Here's a sweet interview (check out the accompanying video above) of out actor Leslie Jordan from The Today Show, in which he discussed his new book about being gay in Hollywood and his new series, Sordid Lives (on Logo).
  • Whoopi Goldberg is joining the cast of Xanadu for a few months, taking the role of one of the evil muse sisters (Jackie Hoffman is taking a few months off). She's been a vocal supporter of the Gayest Little Musical That Could for months, and it would be awesome to see her in the production. Miss Celie on skates!!

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

    I want milk!!!!

Wow what a hot man!!!!. Brian where do you get these hot guys? I want him in my bed pronto.

As for Leslie Jordan. I LOVE him. He so funny and just the cutest thing. I hope we get Sordid Lives here in Canada since we don't seem to get alot of LOGO's programs here. Here TV just came out on Rogers On Demand a year or two ago and it is much better than our OUT TV. Any hope for LOGO to partner up with Starchoice here in Canada?

Californians to vote on same-sex marriage

"It takes a village (to make Village People)"

I just read on CNN that the California Supreme Court is going to allow an initiative on the ballot in November to determine whether same-sex marriage should be banned.  Is it too late to ask for our wedding gifts back?  And when does the madness ever end?

    Fingers Crossed

I've got my fingers crossed, but the latest poll I saw showed a slight majority in California against the ban.  And Schwarzenegger (I guess there CAN be decent Republicans!) is fully on our side this time.  I think so far it's been really underestimated how huge a development it would be if this ban is voted down.

Crossed Fingers Will Not Be Enough

Hope is nice, but action is better.  The Christian Right is mobilized and major contributors are spending big bucks backing Proposition 8.  We all need to give up a few lattes or martinis and contribute to the organizations, such as Equality California, that are working to make sure that short-sighted and narrow-minded Californians are not successful in their efforts to make their bigotry and prejudice a constitutional imperative.

    Great Idea!

That's a great idea!  I give to HRC, but I didn't think about giving to an organization directly working on the California vote.  I'm swamped at work today, but will check out other possible organizations later.  If you have other groups and/or websites please post them.
