AfterElton Briefs: First look at "Nurse Jackie", NPH as Charles Nelson Reilly and more!

At last night's TV Land Awards, host Neil Patrick Harris channeled the great Charles Nelson Reilly, among others (Pic: GETTY)

Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • An update on the Miss California/Perez Hilton face-off, in which she says that she has a sister who is a "gay activist" who congratulated her on her anti-gay marriage response in the pageant. Am I the only one thinking she may be confusing "activism" with "Activia"?
  • Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, largely credited as one of the founders of queer theory, died last week of breast cancer (aged 58) and the New York Times has an interesting piece on her legacy.
  • Above, check out a behind-the-scenes preview of Nurse Jackie, the much-hyped new Showtime series starring Edie Falco as a ... well, as a nurse. If you don't blink you'll catch a glimpse of Mo-Mo, Jackie's gay BFF, played by the criminally adorable Haaz Slieman (The Visitor).
  • We mentioned a while back that the UK Apprentice was getting its first gay contestant, and there's already controversy stemming from one of his teammates' comments that she wouldn't let her son near a gay man.

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

This guy!

Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick

I can't let her death pass without acknowledging the work she did -- she was truly a groundbreaking figure (and that word is tossed around a lot -- for her it fit). So much of how we will speak and think about gay/straight in the future will come down to her ideas. I know reading her for the first time was like a psychic earthquake.

It's NPH's World -- We Just Live in It

Not at all as taken with Eve Kososky Sedgwick as others hhave been. But she was an interesting voice and her passing is quite sad.

um...just an observation

I might be mistaken...but, does anyone else think that Nurse Jackie is really, really, really gay? I know that this is a After Elton and a lot of us want many TV characters to be something other than straight, but...DAMN. That girl is gay. Just a thought. I couldn't hold it in anymore.
