Azariah Southworth - Now this is groundbreaking
If he can maintain a presence in the Christian Media community he has a chance to open a lot of doors for gays across the board. He's already opened the eyes of a lot of people just by coming out. I applaude his bravery and his honesty. He's not some actor in the insulated world of Hollywood...he's in the lion's den. Each person's coming out is important and unique to the individual and their circumstance...I just think that Azariah's is possibly ground breaking. I give him extra credit for making this move...his career is literally on the line.
Should he be shunned by the Christian community I hope a channel like Logo or Here would be there to put his talents to good use.
Azariah Southworth on his MySpace about coming out
I'd be very interested in what the Ex-gay movement's misguided position is on this.
Current mood:
WOW!!!!
What a looooooong day.
For those of you who didn't read it on perezhilton.com... I came out as a gay Christian today. About 99% of the people in my life knew already but no one in my professional life really knew.
Yeah its true... Christian TV host AND I'm gay. Its really not that big of a deal but I know people are freaking out.
Thank you SOOOOOOOOOO much to the hundreds of people who have sent me emails of encouragement and support. It means the world to me. I've tried to reply to every email. If I haven't replied yet, I will soon.
My reason for doing this was not to hurt anyone. I have finally just come to the conclusion that this is who I am. After years of seeking deliverance through counseling and prayer, this is what I have chosen. You may be like my amazing mother (whom loves me and i love her unconditionally) and say, "Well Azariah maybe you were so close. Maybe God was about to deliver you." My answer to that is, either He is or isn't going to deliver me. When Jesus commanded demons to leave people, he didn't say, "here take this pill, go to counseling 3 times a week and a year from now you will be delivered." NO!!! When Jesus commanded people to be delivered they were delivered instantly. God isn't going to tease me and say, "oh... you're almost there... just a little further now." Either He will deliver you or he won't. As of right now this is what I believe to be God's will for my life. If He wants to change me then so be it, but I don't see that happening.
I hate long blogs, so I'm ending it here. Once again thank you all for your support! This is not the end. You'll continue to hear from me and taking a stand for love and acceptance for all. This is something the church needs to adopt and let go of the prosperity message. Its so 1980's... lol! jk.
Take care and remember that Jesus loves you for who you are and where you are unconditionally.
