AfterElton Briefs: The "Gossip Girl" gay quotient doubles, Ryan and Simon are up to their old tricks, and more!

Michael Lewis

In a continued effort to bring you all that is important in the world of gay entertainment and ensure that you are being spoon-fed images of gorgeous, commoditized manflesh, we present the newly-minted AfterElton Briefs. Following the usual assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Israeli actor/model/badunkadunk Michael Lewis (above) has signed on to appear opposite Alan Cumming in the upcoming fashion-industry Alice in Wonderland adaptation, Hatter. He plays the Dor Mauz, and as a bonus treat, he's also appearing as today's after-the-fold hunk.
  • Not only is we-all-know-who going to be revealed as teh gay on Gossip Girl, but he'll be caught in a lip-lock with another equally cute (and equally inconsequential) character. Wanna know who?
  • We linked to the preview video of Neil Patrick Harris's unfortunate beheading on Ellen yesterday, but here's the full clip for ya, above.
  • Happy Birthday, Barbra. Still buttah after all these years...

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

Michael Lewis!

Happy Birthday Barbra! Still like Buttah?

Can't believe that Barbra Streisand is 66 years old today. I have been a pretty big fan for many years but guess that I have been disappointed in the last several years of her career and I also know that most gay men do not have nice things to say about her. In fact most men and women don't have nice things to say about her....

Anyway I wonder how most of you, who are or were fans, feel about where she is now.

The recent tour of the US in 2006 and Europe in 2007 was mostly a success but the ticket prices were truly obscene and several shows were canceled in Europe. Italy would not allow her to charge those kinds of prices! The supposed DVD of the US tour was scheduled for release but never came out; with no word from the Barbra camp as to why, as fans waited patiently. She also just pulled out of an appearance at Israel's 60th Anniversary celebration but seems that she never actually committed to attending. On the positve side she her foundation just donated $5 million to Cedars-Sini Medical Center. Unfortunately she rarely updates her web site and when she does it is mostly political.

Some say the voice is starting to lose its luster. Certainly her last several albums have not been all that exciting nor have they sold that well. Her recent live albums have contain the same hits over and over and over...

So I guess I am wondering if the career is in decline. I truly believe that since she married James Brolin her drive and ambition have decreased dramatically. Although she was quite funny in "Meet the Fockers' the film was mediocre; her recent movie career is just about non existent. I hope that I am wrong and that all that glorious talent gets put to some good use soon. None of us is getting any younger.

What do the readers think? If anything at all...

PS I will say that Barbra never allowed the demons of drugs and booze and destroy her the way so many others have. She is a very real and rare talent when compared to today's celebrity whores.

Gossip Girl gays

J.S. was the understudy for Jonathan Groff in Spring Awakening, who won the Tony as best supporting actor in a musical last year.  He is a cutie.

BUT THE BIGGER NEWS is the risk CW it taking in airing this storyline.  It was clearly stated in Monday's episode that Eric is 14.  That is below legal age.  The CR and AFA are going to wreak havoc on this one.

It is one thing to be college age (read 18, and legal) gay, as in NUKE. on ATWT.  An uder age gay boy is going to raise hackles.  I am amazed the CW is taking the risk.  I am still skeptical at this one.  We most of the young actors are beyond 18 but essentail they are all supposed to be underage.  This will be a landmark if it comes to reality.

We are supposed to have seen the gay character come out this week; and It turned out to be merely rumor.  I am not sure who is sourcing this; but, I am still a bit skeptical that we may even know this week since they have to establish this new character with another regular.

We'll see.

While there's definitely a

While there's definitely a double standard gays face, I'd note that Gossip Girl was first noted for its heavy use of underage drinking, typically without any consequence and sometimes without any hiding (we've seen Blair and Serena sipping martinis in posh bars without needing a fake ID) so I'd say that's an issue that could get a bit of a "been there" reaction.

Then again, the always-ridiculous Parents Television Council has proven its ridiculousness by objecting to 'F's used on Gossip Girl ads and in 30 Rock... not swearing, just the letter used where a swear word would fit, so maybe they've spent their bullets before this came up.

Either way, I'm not sure if the CW would see more controversy as a bad thing, they've certainly been courting it all season with Gossip Girl.

Let's just hope...

that there won't be a mistletoe in sight when they kiss.

I don't follow Gossip Girl, but I'm sure we'll get some clips of the event on AE.
