In a continued effort to bring you all that is important in the world of gay entertainment and ensure that you are being spoon-fed images of gorgeous, commoditized manflesh, we present the newly-minted AfterElton Briefs. Following the usual assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Funny, when I think of John Barrowman making the "Music of the Night", it doesn't involve any masks, capes, or roses ... Barrowman rumored as lead in Phantom of the Opera stage sequel.
  • I don't know about you, but I'd kill to see a Wham! movie. Heck, I saw Music and Lyrics because I thought it was the closest thing we'd ever get!
Ted Allen and partner Barry Rice

  • Does Top Chef daddy judge Tom Colicchio have a gay following? Um, does a bear flambe in the woods?. While we're on the topic, check out the adorable pic above of co-judge Ted Allen and his man, Barry Rice. Anyone else wondering if they play "Judges' Table" at home?
  • Indiana Jones and the Insult of Doom: A video of hot young thing Shia LaBeouf — sorry, make that "drunk young thing" — goading a friend to slap him by calling him "faggot" has surfaced. Blech. Is it too late to kick him off the Hot 100?

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

Aussie rugby player Nick Youngquest!

Phantom of Manhattan?

Thank god they changed the title. Its interesting that Barrowman would then have played both sides of the issue, you might say. He has played Raoul before. And that is a Frederick Forsyth adaptation. Im guessing this a London production, hope it comes to NY soon.

Boot Shia Le Bouf of the list, I dont know what he was doing there in the first place. He is as charming as a log.

Its great to have proof that any of the guys from Queer Eye has a love life. This is the first picture I remember seeing of one of the them with his man (I dont include Carsons australian pick ups).

And thanks for that rugger over there. Love them.

Just last week the rumor

Just last week the rumor was that Lloyd Webber was after Gerald Butler for the role. How am I supposed to keep track of my showtune-related gossip if they keep changing things?

Jere

...when two opposite points of view are expressed with equal intensity, the truth does not necessarily lie exactly halfway between them. It is possible for one side to be simply wrong.

Shia LaBeouf "auf" -- Cameron Graham ON!

Totally -- give Shia a year to try to redeem himself, and bump him for 2008. And may I humbly suggest my next husband, Cameron Graham, as a more than worthy replacement. (Plays gay in Paradise Falls, on here!TV On Demand; plays gay lover to one of the main characters in Los Jornaleros [The Day Laborers] -- his character is responsible for bringing the family together.)

Or: If you'd prefer a HOT person of color, may I suggest any of the following:

  • John Amaechi
  • Archie Kao
  • Adam Beach
  • Barack Obama (just to get you in the mood for campaigning and voting for him)

Methinks Teddy doth protest too much

I followed your link to "bears flambe[ing] in the woods," in which Ted Allen is quoted fumbling over the definition of bear in the gay community. Could he not have just pulled out his wallet and shown a pic of his humpy husband? I knew that Ted was married (in the non-Massachusetts, non-California, non-Iowa-for-24-hours sense), but I'd never seen a photo of Barry before now. WOOF! I want to change my vote: take Shia off, put Barry ON!

Ted and Barry

I have a couple of pics of Ted and Barry at the QAF Season 4 premiere party but I have no idea how to post them. I think they've been together for about 15 years.

More rugby players, please

Now, that is a man I could get behind! While we're on the subject of rugby:

  1. How about a photo of Ben Cohen, arguably the most gay-friendly rugby player in the world? (He recently held a gay-fans appreciation day -- how about an interview with him?)
  2. The Bingham Cup (an international gay rugby tournament named for Mark Bingham, killed on United 93 on 9/11/2001) is being held this week in Dublin, Ireland.
  3. Go, Dragons! (Chicago's mostly gay, all-inclusive rugby football club is competing at the Bingham Cup)

Ted Allen - cool gay guy

Ted Allen is always great because he deftly shows that a gay man can be handsome, smart, articulate, and charming. And that he has a husband is even better. He and Barry Rice make a cute couple.

shia deserves a break

yeah, it's not cool to say that word, ever.  But millions of drunk straight dudes everywhere still use it, and I don't think that every one of them is a hateful homophobe.  The issue is that the word is so prevalent and pervasive that a lot of times people don't even REALIZE how offensive it is.  I think it's slowly dawning on public consciousness, but faulting Shia for a drunken mistake years ago when he was with some buddies (and even younger than his current 22 years) is making him take the fall for our whole society's problem.  It seems too harsh.  Especially when he's already apologized.

Clarification

Technically, Shia himself has not apologized - his rep did for him. Not exactly the same. Look, I don't think anyone is calling him the next anti-christ. Most people, like myself, have just expressed disappointment. As far as society's general use of the word "faggot" why are so many of us still finding this acceptable? I don't care HOW they meant it or their level of intoxication when they did use it. It's offensive and shouldn't be tolerated. As long as he's genuinely sorry for saying it and learns from this I'll continue being a fan. But I'll never start letting people off the hook for using that hateful word. If we don't stand up against any form of homophobia who will? Cinematt01
