AfterElton Briefs: Luke joins his "Brothers" in Rome, the AFA flips over burgers, and more!

In a continued effort to bring you all that is important in the world of gay entertainment and ensure that you are being spoon-fed images of gorgeous, commoditized manflesh, we present the newly-minted AfterElton Briefs. Following the usual assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Members of the Brothers & Sisters cast traveled to Rome for a publicity appearance, and newly-out actor Luke MacFarlane (Scotty) was among them. Now he's a member of the regular cast, and it's great to see that he's being treated as such.
  • A while back we posted about a BBC documentary that John Barrowman was reportedly filming, and the net has put out an official press release: In John Barrowman, The Making of Me, the out actor "embarks on a journey of self-discovery to find out the truth about his sexuality." I'm gonna go ahead and guess that there won't be any daleks in this one.
James Lance of No Heroics

  • Here's an early review of the upcoming Britcom No Heroics, which features gay superhero Timebomb amongst its cast of downtrodden heroes. Actor James Lance plays the "gay, Spanish, alcoholic, knife wielding ex-heroin addict and the most charming of the bunch." (t/y Ben Weldon for the tip!)
  • Bad Ronald? The AFA has officially called a boycott of McDonald's for "refusing to remain neutral in the culture wars" and "promoting the homosexual agenda," which makes zero sense to me as I don't know a single gay person who eats the stuff. Wait, is this about the Hamburglar? He was drunk, we were in college ... it meant nothing, I swear!

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

Model Simon Tham!

If the AFA...

...keeps up this nonsense they are really going to go down the tubes fast. I mean, I hate McDonalds, too, but I hear they're fairly popular in America (wink) Someone messes with Ronald McDonald and they're gonna have trouble. This is probably a good thing because doing something like this is bound to make a lot of people sit up and take notice. Maybe they'll realize what a bunch of incoherent pond scum the AFA is made of. (and damn that walmart on their equal hire practices!!)

I say we take the warning labels off everything and let nature take it's course.

Xanadu!

Wow, the Xanadu sing-along looks like a lot of fun. Any chance any AfterElton writers who live in the NYC area can go and report on the festivities?

I'm like a superhero, with no powers or motivation...

HUH?

The out actor "embarks on a journey of self-discovery to find out the truth about his sexuality."

^ He wants to find out the truth? What does that mean? He wants to find out if he's truly gay....or not?

There's more to tell???

I just read John Barrowman's autobiography, "Anything Goes"...I can't believe there is more to tell that he wants known in the public.   I wonder how his partner, Scott, feels about all this.

John is not shy about his life and I am glad he's out and proud, but I think he is becoming a bit over-exposed in the media.

He is one of my favorite actors.

And Luke MacFarlane is one of my other very big favorites...I just love his portrayal of Scotty and I also have watched him in his other projects, such as "Tanner on Tanner" and his bit part in "Kinsey"....he is a marvelous actor....would love to see him on stage sometime in the future.

Barrowman is the Right Man for the Job

Of course, he knows he's gay, and proudly so. For him the question is nature, nurture, or a bit of both. Taking the time to read the "Official Press Release" may have saved you from asking such a ridiculous question.

I stand and vigorously applaud him for bringing his celebrity to the discussion. Hopefully his program will contribute to the cause of rational thinking and we will finally be done with the right wing insanity that being gay is a "choice." Education brings understanding and acceptance . . . and he's precisely the right person to take on that task.

All I am saying

Doesn't NO HEROICS sound a lot like Perry Moore's HERO.   Stan Lee needs to get his film version of HERO into production pronto.

Rome must be having one hell of a gay pride festival with Luke McFarlane and Ellen Degeneres and Portia Del Rossi in town.

They all are

It's just hard to see Balthazar's hotness through Tommy's generally annoying personality.

Balthazar

I liked him better when he guest-starred on Charmed as Page's boyfriend for a short stint.

AFA vs McDonalds

Thank you, Brian, for brightening up my day.

This AFA vs McDonalds was such a good joke. Seriously, don't tell me there will actually be people stupid enough to follow this call the AFA is making? I don't like McDonalds, but from now on I will eat my occasional hamburger with a better feeling.

And Luke looks great! Too bad Matthew Rhys wasn't there too. I would have loved to see some pics of them away from B&S. I agree, Psionycx, Balthazar can be hot, it just never really shows in Tommy.

I eat at McDonalds.....

.....

Anyway, nice for McDonalds to outright stand against the AFA.

I'll be interested in that John Barrowman documentery. Captain Jack made "New Who" for me. (I hope Stephen Moffat gets to write for him again, I still don't think Jack has been as well written as when he was introduced. Yeah, this is off topic.....)
