AfterElton Briefs: Luke Macfarlane's "Jazz", Foo Fighters for marriage equality, and more!

Jeremy Gabriel and Luke Macfarlane in The Jazz Age

Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Above, Luke Macfarlane and Jeremy Gabriel as F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway in the LA production of The Jazz Age. More pics over here.
  • Eat your hearts out, Nuke! Looks like the title of first gay wedding in daytime will actually go to Bianca and Reese over on All My Children, with a Valentine's-set ceremony.
  • Randy Price, America's first openly gay news anchor, has resigned from his Boston station after 12 years due to "irreconcilable differences" with management.
Foo Fighters

  • Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl and Chris Shiflett were wearing white knots (via whiteknot.org) in support of gay marriage at this weekend's MusicCares tribute to Neil Diamond (Grohl also wore his to the Grammys). Grohl was heard explaining, "I believe in love and I believe in equality and I believe in marriage equality." Rock on, good sirs.
  • Good news for Big Love fans: the seriously twisted family drama has been renewed for a fourth season. And if our chat with the series creators holds true, that means we'll be seeing a lot more of closeted neo-patriarch Alby Grant.

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

This guy!

I had the pleasure to see 'The Jazz Age'....

.. this last Saturday, (Feb 7th)..

I have to say Luke's talents are wasted on B&S. However, the $ 'Scotty' bring in gives Luke the freedom to show on stage just how good an actor he is...

I HIGHLY recommend everyone who can to go see this production.

The theatre is tiny.. 50 seats at best, and only one restroom shared by cast, crew and audience alike. But it's well worth it IM(not so)HO.

AND... Just to make everyone jealous, I was able to meet and talk with Luke before and after the show...

I was there Saturday night too!

I also had the chance to see "The Jazz Age" on Saturday night. It was very good. The three actors were amazing. I'm telling all my friends to go see it. And yes the theatre was quite small, but it made the performance that much more fun to see because the actors were only 10 ft from you rather then up on a stage.

I too was there Saturday

I too was there Saturday night, along with LgH. We got to talk and chat with Luke before and after the show, and we sat in the front seats.  It was a great time to see Luke up close and personal again like that.  He was amazing as F. Scotty Fitzgerald.  Jeremy Gabriel is also just as amazing as Ernest Hemingway.  Both actors are tall (Luke being 6'2" and Jeremy roughly about 6'5"), so it was a good match.

That's great...

It's nice to see half of the Foo Fighters support gay marriage. Hopefully the other half feels the same way but they ran out of white ribbon. All of them seemed like cool dudes when they appeared on Top Chef.

Foo Fighters

Weren't the Foo Fighters also HIV deniers who encouraged HIV+ people not to take medications, or am I confusing them with another group? Assuming I got my groups right, they quietly dropped their support of the cause, but never actually publicly withdrew from the position, or apologized to the people they gave life-threateningly bad medical advice to.

You are correct about the

You are correct about the Foo Fighters.  They became HIV deniers around 2000 because of their bassist, Nate Mendel.  They did a benefit concert for the main deniers group, "Alive And Well", sometime around 2000.  They talked about doing more benefits, but never did, and the organization is no longer listed among the organizations they support.  I don't know their current thinking though.

Interestingly, the founder of Alive and Well, Christine Maggiore, lost her 3 year old daughter to AIDS after not taking drugs during her pregnancy, not testing her daughter, and insisting on breastfeeding her.  Christine had been diagnosed with HIV years earlier, and died recently at around 50 from pneumonia.  I don't believe it was officially linked to AIDS because I don't believe the family allowed an autopsy.

The whole thing is really sad.  It's amazing that there is so much anti-science thought out there, from people who believe in the HIV deniers, to people who think 9-11 was an inside job, to people who think global warming is a sham.  Science is neither perfect nor infallible, but if you have to choose between two theories for something, wouldn't you think you'd go with the scientific consensus and the predominance of scientific studies, rather than the contentions of laymen or fringe science people?

Luke

Yay! Luke looks so good here!

I'm just glad he will be clean shaven for the rest of the B&S episodes!

Clean shaven Scotty.... Not yet....

Not for a while he won't be.... most likely...

Most of the season has already filmed.

So a smooth-faced Scotty need not show up for another six or seven episodes or so..

Besides, I've come to like his stubble... Kinda hot ....

But BOY!! He was looking so GOOD standing next to me the other night..

Keep rubbing it in our faces, LOL.
