AfterElton Briefs: "Torchwood" rumors, the most datable TV characters, and more!

Vincent Cassel as the sexually confused Kirill in Eastern Promises

In a continued effort to bring you all that is important in the world of gay entertainment and ensure that you are being spoon-fed images of gorgeous, commoditized manflesh, we present the newly-minted AfterElton Briefs. Following the usual assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • More proof that Canada is cooler than we are: Eastern Promises earned seven Genie Awards (the Canadian Oscar), including one for Best Original Screenplay.
  • Big Brother 9 has managed to become even more vile, this time thanks to gay houseguest Joshuah.

Will Truman: Datable?
  • EW ran a readers' choice gallery of the 30 most datable TV characters. Sorry, but for some reason I just can't seem to click past "The Men of Friday Night Lights", for whatever reason... (oh, and Will Truman made the cut. Really?! High-maintenance city!)
  • Just for fun, here's a remix of the moment from the Grammy's where Beyonce apparently stepped on Tina Turner's foot. (t/y Gary!)

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

Justin Timberlake (from the upcoming movie The Love Guru)!

A few things about DW/Torchwood dont add up

"The 2009 specials are being filmed now and will wrap shortly"

That's wrong. Series 4 is still filming. 2009 specials are not scheduled to begin filming until January next year.

Burn Gorman has confermd he is doing Series 3. The rumour that Robert Carlyle will replace Tennant has been doing the rounds for a while and has been definitively rubbished by the man himself (not that I would object).

Basically, why change things when the formula is working? You only add the new cute cousin when the ratings are slipping. Color me skeptical

Joshuah Go Home Please

before you do more damage!  He barebacks only with his boyfriend, and he can't get HIV if he is the top.  Alright then I guess he did his safer sex research (not)!  And to demonstrate gay sex to a bunch of straight people on national TV is extremely tacky and inappropriate.  I would not want a straight guy to demonstrate hetero sex to me on national TV that is for damn sure.  Where is this guy's sense of self-respect?  Oh yeah, scratch that he is on Big Brother.

Cheers

Burning 'wood

I'm not buying most of these rumors.  Granted, after three seasons it would not be surprising for David Tennant to move on.  That's about the average for a single actor playing the Doctor.  Tom Baker was the standout at seven.

But the changes to Torchwood seem questionable.  For starters, Captain Jack is the centerpiece of the show and removing him would be like removing Buffy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  It just wouldn't work.  Barrowman himself seems to really enjoy the show, and so I would expect that only a seriously cool offer would entice him off.  The idea of Martha joining full-time seems plausible (please let them kill Gwen to make room).  But given that a lot of Torchwood's appeal is it's perceived edginess I have a hard time imagining the BBC trying to tame it down knowing that this would probably lose much of it's core audience.

Oh well, time will tell.

Musings on BB9 and Torchwood

Joshuah is the most cringe worthy contestant this season. The way he just told everone he was a barebacking coke whore was disgusting. He also made fun of Neil for having some self respect. James on the other hand seems to be open about his daliances in the homosex. He seemed to know more about it than Joshuah.

If Torchwood gets rid of everyone but Gwen I can guarantee they will also get rid of viewers. Not that many people like Gwen and the show was based around Captain Jack anyway. Now if they want to give Gwen her own spinoff Im cool with that.

Who/Torchwood fans, Hold your horses....

John Barrowman never leave Torchwood!   He was asked by one of the interviews if he loves to play Captain Jack on Torchwood for next 5 years,  He said Yes;  but we want Martha in Torchwood. Owen and Tosh are gone too as it sucks!

I really am sad to see David Tennant go  as He is my very favorite "Doctor".   David said that he got lot of offers from theaters, films, etc.. in UK online news.

I hope that he  stay for one more series or so! John and David are Scottish buddies.  new 11th Doctor's played by Robert Carlyle, who you may know him as the gay priest's boyfriend in "Priest".  See : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ri-qGpTz9eg&feature=related.     I give it a try to see new Doctor.  I will be in mournful time when David's 10th doctor role is regenerate into Robert's new doctor role on 2009 Christmas Special.

KEEP CAPT. JACK!  DUMP GWEN!

Torchwood? WTF

Why would the BBC do this? Unless they are as dumb as CBS/P&G about Nuke/ATWT! Really, it's senseless.

Torchwood rumours

That sounds like utter rubbish. The only bit that is in the least bit plausible is David Tennant maybe leaving after the 2009 Christmas special, but I somehow doubt that they would go to all the trouble of the 2009 Doctor Who specials to accomodate keeping David while he does Hamlet and Love's Labour Lost if they had already agreed he would not do at least one more proper series after that.

They haven't started filming the 2009 specials either-- I don't think the've started the 2008 Christmas Special, and normally they wouldn't until June, but they'll have to do that earlier for rehersal time for David. But I doubt they've completely written the specials yet, let alone started to film them.

Also-- Robert Carlyle? I think he's a bit too old really. A good actor but I'm not sure he has the energy for the Doctor.

As for John Barrowman leaving Torchwood-- WTF?? Torchwood is all about John Barrowman/Captain Jack. You can't have Torchwood without Captain Jack, just like the Sarah Jane Adventures would be pointless without Sarah Jane Smith. As Torchwood is doing well and John Barrowman is so happy with the part I don't think he's gonna be leaving Torchwood [the Institute and the show] other than to appear in Doctor Who. Freema Agyeman being permanently on Torchwood? Well, it could happen I suppose and she is much better than Gwen, but hardly a replacement for Jack.

The BBC are not morons. Doctor Who is the flagship show and Torchwood has a very strong fanbase-- they're not gonna mess with them. Moreover, both DT and JB enjoy their roles. Trust in RTD-- he will continue to amaze and entertain us.

TW changes/rumours

Torchwood is John Barrowman. Torchwood is a very different show then Dr. Who. They can't just replace John with another actor. At least not for me. If they want to change it great but then they would need a whole new set of fans to go with a whole new program. I would welcome Martha. She was a breath of fresh air. Just enough air to blow away Gwen.

UTTER NONSENSE

The Doctor Who and Torchwood rumors are utter nonsense. They seem to me to be the things the author could think of that would garner him the most attention. As one other correspondent has noted, the entire reason they opted to do only three "specials" in 2009 for Doctor Who was so that David Tennant would be free to do his Shakespeare performances and come back to do series 5 in 2010. Russell T. Davies is quoted on this in Doctor Who Magazine. As for the cast changes in Torchwood, I couldn't help but laugh at how outlandish this BS was. Barrowman leave the show? Yeah, right. Ranks right up there with those rumors in 1981 that the Fifth Doctor would be a woman.

I've joked that if you took

I've joked that if you took all the Doctor Who rumors that flew during series three, everyone on the show had been fired or quit, it sounds like those rumors are headed to Torchwood, now.

What's the point

of watching a 'non-adult' version of Torchwood?????
