AfterElton Briefs: Van, Jake and Cheyenne send GLAAD tidings, "Kill Your Darlings" and more!

I won't even pretend to have an excuse for posting this pic of gay-friendly dreamboat Ryan Reynolds at the preem of his new movie, Adventureland (Photo: GETTY)

Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Adventureland star Jesse Eisenberg (Cursed, Roger Dodger) will play gay beat poet Allen Ginsberg in the upcoming ensemble mystery pic Kill Your Darlings. Ben Whishaw (Brideshead Revisited's Sebastian Flyte) and Chris Evans (Sunshine) will co-star.
  • At the HRC gala this weekend, NAACP Chairman Julian Bond said at the podium that when people ask him if gay rights are civil rights, his answer is "of course they are ... It isn't 'special' to be free from discrimination. It is an ordinary, universal entitlement of citizenship." Well said - you can watch his entire speech over here.
  • Acclaimed actress Natasha Richardson (wife to Liam Neeson and daughter to Vanessa Redgrave and late, gay director Tony Richardson) has suffered a terrible skiing accident and sources are reporting that she is not expected to survive. The actress is 45, and our thoughts go out to her family.

  • Above, check out a star-studded video wishing GLAAD well on the 20th anniversary of their GLAAD Media Awards.
  • And for our European readers, the Verzaubert Queer Fest will be playing a host of gay flicks in cities across Germany, including the new adaptations of The Informers and Mysteries of Pittsburgh, as well as classics like Boys in the Band and The Fruit Machine. Interestingly, many of the new films are set in the 1980's.

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

This little bit o' luck!

Ryan Reynolds

Can you believe some fanboys are up in arms over the Wolverine movie where Ryan plays Deadpool, because they didn't disfigure him like Deadpool is written?  Disfiguring that beauty for a role would be a crime against humanity.  So is anything that requires him to wear a shirt.

Van and Jake

Um ... it just me, or do they act like they've been nipping at Lady Drumstick's cooking sherry in that vid?

Lady D....

Excuse me?  Cooking sherry?  Lady D only drinks the hard stuff, thank you.

I agree that their ummm..... performance was a bit OTT.

Van and Jake

Are clearly schnockered, blotto, plastered, pissed!

At least Van is.

Good for them!

Loony Tunes and Cute As The Day Is Long.

I wonder where they were in those fancy togs.  Maybe some kind of after party?  Anyone know?

Van looks pissed.

Yes you are right. And all of the above. Van looks a little pissed to me.

But well, public image and diffusion has a price you gotta be willing to pay, at least until you are extremely well known everywhere.

They were wearing those

They were wearing those clothes at last year's GLAAD Awards, so these greetings must have been taped a year in advance. And judging from Van and Jake, the after-party last year must have been a great one.

I'm not seeing the video...

...all I see is a white box!

I just want to add my condolences to the Richardson/Redgrave/Neeson family. Natasha Richardson is one of my favorite actresses, a beautiful, warm, witty and immensely talented woman, and a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend to many. I'm dearly hoping for a miracle....

AWE!

How cute is Matthew Rhys in that video?

And I totally agree, Van is three sheets to the wind in that vid - if not five or six!  Luke needs to lay of the booze!  (Jake was adorable as always!)

I read the article on the

I read the article on the Ginsberg film. If Lucien Carr is going to be a major character, then it will obviously deal with a very shady incident in the early life of Ginsberg and Kerouac, et al -- the murder of David Kammerer by Carr and the attempted cover-up by Kerouac and Ginsberg. Meaning that this is likely a film about the murder of a gay man by his probable lover and Carr's defense of a "honor killing" -- which got him off with a much lighter sentence.
