In this week's Angry Puppy video blog, Marc and Lee geek out (as is their wont) over the recently-released Flash Gordon: Saviour of the Universe Edition DVD (OMGSAMJONESINHOTPANTSOMG), The Sarah Connor Crapsicle - oh, sorry - Chronicles, and King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, which was my favorite documentary of 2007.
This episode is extra-special in that the guys have buried a "Mystery Geek Challenge" in the vlog for perceptive nerds (Like You!) to tackle. It's like Blue's Clues for gay grownups!
Check it out below...

Geek bands
Hi guys,
Thanks for your blogs; it's fun to hear your take on sci-fi and gaming issues. Now, looking at the top geek bands, I was stunned not to find They Might be Giants in your top 5! I mean, how can a band with a song called "Particle Man" fail to top your chart! :-) I also find earlier Barenaked Ladies material quite geeky with a tongue-in-cheek nerdiness to them.
Cheers
The Top 10
oops sorry bad URL
having trouble amending my previous comment - you can see our complete list at TheAngryPuppy.com!
Barenaked Ladies
They lost me at "One Week". ;)
But I really like Ed Robertson. In the gay way.
Geek Bands
1. The Pixies
I don't really like "They Might Be Giants" but they had a handful of songs that I liked: ana ang, particle man, etc.
_______ I really liked Terminator: the Sarah Connor Chronicles. I like the idea that the main characters now have access to time travel technology via Cameron, the Terminatrix. In fact, I liked this new Terminator series so much that I think it currently trumps "Battlestar Galactica" especially considering the HORRIBLE third season BSG had. Keep in mind that Ronald D Moore (Creator of the revised BSG) stated in an interview that he thought the Soprano's Series Finale was perfect. That statement reveals a SERIOUS LACK OF CREATIVE JUDGEMENT and bodes very ill for the fourth season of BSG. I think that Terminator the Sarah Connor Chronicles has the potential to become the premiere science fiction show for the foreseeable future.
_______ Terminator 4 is given the green light. It stars Christian Bale which is a good sign because I don't see him commiting to a project that is obviously creatively bankrupt. Also, just before T4 is released in late August of 2009, they will release an ANIME and ANIMATION Terminator inspired DVD. So there are a few Sci Fi things to look forward too.
Another great VLOG guys, I heap great praise upon you.
And No Arnold
Thanks to California!
And, thanks, Metabaron!
BSG: I re-watched the whole series right before Season 3, and I think that gave it more of a sense of momentum for me than for a lot of others. The longer we wait for Season 4, though...
Caprica was one of the few prequels I was definitely looking forward to. I've seen rumors that they might do it as a movie, a la Razor, which in theory should be sufficient for the story unless they have some big pre-Cylon narrative arc in mind.
Pixies, definitely
I hate to say this because I'm not a fan, but I know a lot of nerdlingers who are into Steely Dan...
And metabaron, I do think Terminator is on the upswing (mostly thanks to Summer Glau), but wow those first 15 minutes were paaaaainful. And what's with the Terminator being a bubba fratboy? He looks like an intermural football coach, not a killing machine...
Yeah, I've always loved the
Yeah, I've always loved the Pixies since I discovered them in 1990. (No I'm not that old, I found them when I was 13 ;)
I agree with you that the beginning was tedious, but I've grown used to segments like those. Even Buffy had tedious portions to many of the shows. However, when the action started with Summer Glau's character it was the best since I can't even remember. I liked how they boobie-trapped their pick truck and Cameron(Glau) hit the remote once the evil terminator passed the truck.
I'm not as bothered by the look of the Evil Terminator because I'm of the camp that think that there should be Terminators that look like Ru Paul. Just Kidding. But still, disguise is a component of being an assassin robot. I guess that rules out VICENT from Disney's "The Black Hole".
Terminators and Drag Queens
Brian and Metabaron,
I'm OK with Owain Yeoman (maybe it's the Welsh thing again?), but I'm still not getting the right vibe from Thomas Dekker. I can't put my finger on it, but he just doesn't seem like the hero the world's going to need. Unless the plan is to start him off all wrong and show how he develops.
Is this just me?
Oh, and Ru Paul as a Terminator? Yes!
Favorite Geek band:
Favorite Geek band: Probably the B-52's. The music videos were very funky and the music so campy: Love Shack, Rock Lobster, etc...
I could not fifure out the geek challenge... I though it had something to do with all the Queens and King references but i'm probably wrong...
I just love the t-shirts...
FSM, RAmen
I got Marc that shirt one Christmas, though that seems wrong for a lot of reasons.
He was touched by His Noodly Appendage and converted to Pastafarianism then and there.
Mystery Geek Challenge: I
Mystery Geek Challenge: I totally fail.
Geek Band: No entry on my part, but I will have to say that I'm totally (like) in love with the end theme of Portal "Still Alive" .. I just empathise with GLaDOS.

TMBG are good geek fun. For a little treat, I enjoyed the cameo that "Birdhouse in Your Soul" made on one of my fav shows, Pusing Daisies.
As to the challenge... ehhh I have no solid guesses. But wild guesses, oh yes. How about: Facial Hair! Yes, facial hair. Ming sports his Fu Manchu-esque number, a guard holding the 30's Flash has a big bushy beard, a guy in the King of Kong movie poster sports a beardy thing, the referee in the KoK clip has a salt and pepper thing going on, Freddie Mercury (in AF form and in the actual pic) has his signature moustache. Dumbledore has his intense beard. And finally--though nothing new-- Marc and Lee sport a little bit themselves. Right, so either that's my guess or I have an unrealized facial hair fetish.
MYSTERY GEEK CHALLENGE... (hint)
For those of you trying to figure out our Mystery Geek Challenge, we apologize for the perhaps too-subtle innuendo. Don't lose your head.
If trying to play the game is driving you stone cold crazy and you feel like you're searching for the invisible man in the seven seas of rhye, then we're sorry to put you under pressure.
Still, at the end of the day if none of you are able to work it out then at least we get to say that we are the champions!
Marc & Lee
seven seas of rhye -
seven seas of rhye - Queen
we are the champions - Queen
...
I think I wasn't too far by mentioning that Queen or words related to it was referenced a lot in the vlog. The Mercury figurine also points to Queen.
The show must go on, Don't
The show must go on, Don't stop me now, Under pressure, It's a hard life, Good old fashioned loverboy
All Queen songs.
Did I miss any?
am I big geek, actually my brother is the biggest Queen fan. He made me go to see Flash Gordon at the cinema and we had to sit until the very end and hear all the music. My favourite line is "Flash I love you but we only have ten minutes to save the Earth" funny.
Yay!
Answer to The 1st Mystery Geek Challenge
As some of you guessed, the category of our first-ever Mystery Geek Challenge was Queen songs, in honor of our naming Queen the #1 Geek Band of all time in the last episode of Angry Puppy (top of page).
Tricia correctly identified five of the songs, here's the complete list of 9 Queen songs in the order in which we named them:
Brace yourselves, we have a new Geek category and hidden list of items in the upcoming new episode - give a shout out and see how many items you can spot!
Yours in gay geekishness,
Marc & Lee
Gasp.
I am a semi-geek
This is why I never get the Mystery Geek Challenge and I have never been a fan of Queen, even after Freddy Mercury came out. Some of their songs are passable but as a band I could not relate. This may be because my geekiness did not come out ;) till later in life. As I said I am a semi-geek. I love watching your vlog because you both are so engaging but I cannot relate to some of the things, like the Terminator:TSCC or Battlestar Galactica. I watched some of the older episodes of the original series of Battlestar Galactica with that guy from Gunsmoke as Adama but it was not very interesting so I never watched any of the current series. Am I missing something. The older series was pathetic. How does this series measure up?
