News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Angry Puppy video blog 13: Mass Effect, The Last Man on Earth, and more!

This week's Angry Puppy is full of shocking news about "full digital nudity", same-sex couplings in Mass Effect, Fox News' getting the story wrong, and the possible film adaptation of The Last Man on Earth. Oh my! Marc and Lee also review "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," the first episode of Torchwood's second season. And finally, they notice something odd about both the Sci Fi Channel and The History Channel doing a series about hunting UFO's. As they guys say, The History Channel?

Mass Effect is *so* the new

Mass Effect is *so* the new Night Trap... 'cept that Night Trap was a crummy game good only as a "So bad it's good" treat.

Nice call!

Yes, I forgot about that!

And Night Trap was listed as one of the most controversial games of all time by Yahoo! last year:

Night Trap

(1992: Sega CD)

If it weren't for controversy (and the fact that it starred ill-fated actress Dana Plato), this throwaway Sega CD game would have drifted into obscurity as merely another failed attempt at marrying gameplay with live-action video. But from the moment legislators caught wind of its premise -- young co-eds being hunted by vampires in a deadly house -- it became a touchstone of media tolerance and censorship. Senate hearings led by Joseph Lieberman called the game's content "sick" and "shameful," and while they inaccurately claimed that players were encouraged to trap and kill the unfortunate starlets (players were actually trying to trap the vampires, duh), the damage was done as the game was quickly yanked from retail shelves. The nail in the coffin? Damning testimony by none other than Bob "Captain Kangaroo" Keeshan. Ouch.

I found Mass Effect immersive

I finished Mass Effect in about 15 hours but I didn't follow many of the side quests.  I'm playing through it again and it's so immersive I find myself not even taking breaks for food or drink!  It's a shame that Mass Effect didn't give you the option to hook up with a male colleague so I'm happily sacrificing the female love interest when it becomes an option ;)

That's Why I Haven't Started Mass Effect

I was that way with Oblivion.  Sometimes I got up on Saturday mornings to find that Marc had snuck out of bed to play before I got up!  Cheeky. And then I found out he had an in-game boyfriend!  He had one of those mage scholars from Arcane University following him around, and how he cried when a bear killed him. (Ha ha!)

I'm sticking to Super Mario Galaxy and Rock Band for a little while.  They both let you play in quick ten minute bursts, but obviously are nowhere near as engaging.  I'd like to pick up Oblivion more often to finish a few of the undone side quests and some of the DLC that I never bought but never started, like Mehrunes Razor.

More LGBT action figures

There was an article on sister website Afterellen.com featuring female LGBT characters (some not featred) in their action figure form, so some more suggestions for you there. http://www.afterellen.com/blwe/02-01-08?page=0%2C4

PS: I would like to add that the past two videos for the Angry Puppy blog have not been uploading for me and I was wondering if anyone else was having the same problem or whether there was an obvious reason behind it.

Thanks, Matt!

I just noticed this comment, sorry...

I saw the Number 6 in a comic store, but not Admiral Cain.  Thanks!  I'm sure they'll be featured in our gallery in the near future.
