Angry Puppy video blog 15: Special Valentine's Day Edition

Marc and Lee are back to dish on all things geek (sci-fi, fantasy, etc.) and even though the fellows say they aren't romantic, in honor of Valentine's Day they give Angry Puppy a special twist by discussing "geek" love including Willow and Tara on Buffy the Vampire Slayer! Marc and Lee also reveal that Neil Gaiman hates Torchwood and wishes all the characters would die. Now that's not a very nice thing to say on Valentine's Day!

Check it out after the break!

    Neil Gaiman

IS RIGHT. By and large. If it weren't for the possibility of Ianto and Jack getting together I wouldn't even watch it. Barrowman delivers an overly camp performance. I have the same problems with Dr. Who in general. When Barrowman uses that ridiculous gun of his, I can't believe he can keep a straight face (no pun intended).

Terminator is markedly improving. Next week's episode has flashbacks of the future. It's funny but right now I'm placing Terminator above Battlestar Galactica until BSG proves themselves in Season 4, preferably by torturing to death that ridiculous "Romo Lampkin" character. That moronic trial of Gaius Baltar was so illogical and unreal that I can't believe the same people who ran Seasons 1 and 2 are involved. They've turned Lee Adama into a total douche bag. And, even worse, according to spy reports, he will continue to be a useless douche bag for the first part of Season 4. Ronald Moore has much to answer for.

I'm an engineer and from an engineer's point of view Terminator is more interesting than Battlestove Galacticlown. Season 3 of BSG really f**ked up the science. Remember that episode where the Cylons encounter a beacon from the Lords of Kobol floating in space and the Cylons become infected what every rational person thinks is an INFORMATIONAL VIRUS THAT COMPUTERS GET?? Then, later in the two episode arc they begin talking about it and treating it as if it were a biological virus. That is such an egregious error that indicated Mr. Moore doesn't really know what he's doing. Additionally, Helo acted in such a treasonous manner that HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SUMMARILY EXECUTED. For Heaven's Sake, Adama blew up a whole passenger liner ON MERE SUSPICION THAT IT HAD BEEN COMMANDEERED by Cylon Agents.

Of course, Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles has the advantage of being, thus far, relatively undefined. Still, I enjoyed most of their episodes much more than I did 90% of BSG Season 3.

Do you guys do Comic Book reviews too? What are you reading and what do you like?

    Comics

Hey, Metabaron, thanks for the comment.

I understand what you're saying, but luckily, I have a high tolerance for camp and my ability to suspend disbelief is uncanny.  :) As long as characters follow the logic of whatever universe they're in, I don't mind if they break the rules of mine.

Of course, I say that now, but if I don't like a show for whatever reason, I find it easy to start picking apart the tiniest flaws.

We do review comics, but as Marc once said, he's always behind since he tends to wait for the trade paperbacks. And I tend to "borrow" his when he's done with them.

I've been picking up older things lately - like Watchmen (in anticipation of the movie).

    GEEK CHALLENGE - you're close!

That no prize is dangling just out of reach! You're well on your way but this week's Mystery Geek Challenge is actually slightly harder than The Endless (though that's part of it).

    It's a tough one!

Neil Gaiman does *not* hate Torchwood

We want to add a note to this episode.

We mention Neil Gaiman’s blog where he says that the characters in Season 1 are “too stupid to live”. We put up the actual quote, but took it to mean that he hated the show.

He clarifies in a comment to our vlog post on NewNowNext that what he meant was that they were literally too stupid to live and that they only survived because they were needed in the subsequent episodes. He also mentions that they seem brighter in Season 2.

    Thanks for the clarification!

    MYSTERY GEEK CHALLENGE - Revealed!

This was by far the toughest MGC yet; Tygrlad was halfway there with his guess that we hid the names of The Endless (from Neil Gaiman's Sandman series) in last week's vlog. However the correct answer is that we hit the names of a dozen Neil Gaiman characters, pulled from both comics and novels. Ironically the brief mention of his blog in last week's episode caught his attention as Lee mentions above.

The characters hidden in last week's vlog were as follows:

    1. Despair
    2. Delight
    3. Destiny
    4. Wednesday
    5. Dream
    6. Barbie
    7. Desire
    8. Shadow
    9. (The) Cuckoo
    10. Door
    11. Death
    12. Destruction

That was exceptionally hard, so we're giving you this week off from the Challenge!
