Find out where to start reading about everyone's favorite bisexual, blue-collar warlock and where to see two early gay vampires in film. Also, Lee and Marc cover their usual geek shows: Battlestar Galactica, Lost, Doctor Who and Reaper.
Check it out after the break!
Challenge answer
The mystery geek challenge answer is Doctor Who episode titles. I'm not sure if this list is complete, but this is what i picked out:
End of the World, Aliens of London, Robots of Death, The Romans, The Aztecs, Inferno, Survival, Love and Monsters, Enlightenment, and The Awakening.
I'd also like to nominate David Tennant for the Hot Geek 10. He's been a Who fan since childhood and very gay friendly.
As a Superdelegate, I have to stay neutral, but...
...in secret I wholeheartedly endorse this first nominee.
Lee

Hmm... My nominations for
Continuing My Impartiality
Nice picks!
We talked about Leoben (Callum Keith Rennie) in this episode, and I was thinking the same thing.
In a recent discussion of Iron Man, a friend of mine balked at the idea of Robert Downey Jr. as being attractive. I've always liked him myself, and I've always had a crush on Tony Stark, so I was happy wth the casting. I still haven't gotten out to see it, though. Anyone have thoughts on it?
I wouldn't have thought of John Simm, but a quick Google image search changed my mind.
Jamie Bamber - New-Caprica-Big Apollo, pre-New-Caprica chiseled pilot Apollo or post-New-Caprica suity lawyer Apollo?
theAngryPuppy.com
Hah. Robert Downey Jr is
Hah. Robert Downey Jr is the only guy my mom and I agree on (which is possibly slightly worrying). I loved Iron Man, but I'm only a recent reader of the comics. My boyfriend is an old-school fan though, and he loved it too.
As for Jamie... Either chiseled Pilot Apollo or suity lawyer Apollo. I'm not that into big (though to be honest, it wouldn't stop me.)
I love Callum... And I'd totally forgotten he was in the X-Files... Apparently he's signed on for the new movie. Which may be enough to drag me back to the franchise.
Yeah, the mystery geek
Yeah, the mystery geek challenge is Doctor Who story titles. These are the ones i caught (15 of them, in the order you used them...god I am genuinely sad)
end of the world
deadly assasin
aliens of london
robots of death
reign of terror
survival
fires of pompeii
the romans
inferno
doomsday
rose
the aztecs
enlightenment
the awakening
love and monsters
Myst?
OMG. I.Could.Not.Stop.Laughing.
Anyway, thank for the tips on Hellblazer. You guys are responsable for getting me into Constantines world. I have read a few so, this really comes in handy.
My first picks for the Hot Geek List, mine can be really specific:
David Duchovny (Fox Mulder - X Files)
Lee Pace (Ned - Pushing Daisies) I know its fantasy but he is really cute and really geeky.
Ethan Hawk (Dont remember his name - Gattaca "pre make over")
Jonny Lee Miller (Hackers)
Jesse Bradford (Hackers)
Ben Stiller (Mystery Men)
Jeff Bridges (Tron)
An honorable mention to Marshall fron Alias (dont remember his name)
But I have a question: Are this supposed to be hot guys that appear in geek stuff or actual geeks that are hot? I am basing my picks mostly on the latter.
Great vlog, BTW.
God, how could I forget
Hot Geek 10
I clarified the "requirements" for nominations on our site.
They just need to be "geek", loosely defined. So, hot guys (or gals) who appear in geek stuff or actual hot geeks are all welcomed!
The important thing is that the nominees are chosen by all of us.
theAngryPuppy.com
Geeks' Hot Gays vs. Gays' Hot Geeks
Good question! We're looking for our Angry Puppy viewers to help identify the ten hottest geeks. So bring us your Barclay, your Lone Gunmen, your Comic Book Guy!! No wait on second thought come up with somone hotter.
I still need to watch the vlog
My connection is being frustratingly slow. But in the meantime, I'll repeat what I said over at your blog.
John Barrowman owns Transformer pajamas. (Also, I hear he has a Dalek in his foyer.)
At the very least that's got to make him a very geeky hottie.
John Barrowman Qualifies
...for lots of reasons. I mean, Shark Attack 3 alone...
theAngryPuppy.com
A Dalek in his foyer?
hot gay geeks list
David Tennant (in my opinion the hottest doctor and hey, hes the ultimate geek)
Alan Tudyk (Wash from Firefly the pilot)
Sean Maher (Simon from Firefly the ships medic) been watching too much Firefly but I'd call them both geeks
and I second David Duchovny-alot
Firefly Is Full of Hot Geeks
I even watched SG1 more than I would have because Jewel Staite moved to the cast. I love her first scene in the series.
And someone needs to nominate Adam Baldwin. :)
theAngryPuppy.com
ME, I'LL DO IT!!
I've had a huge crush on Adam Baldwin ever since My Bodyguard originally came out in theaters.
I officially nominate Adam Baldwin.
Oh, and what about Christopher Eccleston? Not only for The Doctor, but he was a total geek in Shallow Grave (a mildly psychotic geek, but geek nonetheless).
Can I nominate Marc & Lee...
...for the Hot Geek 10? :P
Heh... at the very least, I hope you two were at the top of each other's lists.
Sure, Marc's on Me List
He's OK!
theAngryPuppy.com
OKAY????
An accident.....An
I'm going to ignore your snarky comments about Keanu
afhickman
"It takes a village (to make Village People)"
Except to say that he was smart enough to turn down the role of Racer X in "Speed Racer" (insert picture of me ducking flames). To my mind, he needs no further testament to his genius (unless it's the fact that he also turned down "Speed 2").
As to your Top Ten Geek list, I have to weigh in here. The all-time greatest TV Geek has got to be Richard Dean Anderson as "MacGyver." In fact you should rename your list in his honor! But I also agree that David Tenant and Callum Keith Rennie are naturals. Others include
Wally Cox as "Mr. Peepers" (hot is in the eye of the beholder, and remember, he was the love of Brando's life!)
Desi Arnaz Jr. as Water Nebicher in "Automan" (Lucy's kid!)
Eric Millegan as Zach Addy (NOT Mark Addy's kid, but an out actor)
Jared Padelecki as Sam Winchester in "Supernatural" (the laptop-toting half of the Wincest brothers)
Nancy Kulp in just about anything, but I'll single out her role as the bird watcher on "Love That Bob" (You didn't specify gender!)
Christian Clemenson in just about anything (but especially as Socrates Poole in "Brisco County")
Anthony Michael Hall in just about anything, but he reached his geek peak in "Weird Science" (I thought he was cuter before he started taking steroids, but once a geek...)
That's ten!
Oh yes
Anthony Michael Hall and Ben Browder, as mentioned below.
And how could I forget Neil Patrick Harris as Dougie Howser. Even now as Barney in HIMYM he has a geeky vibe (see episode when he looses his virginity).
NPH was in Starship Troopers
Harold and Kumar too?
My favorite NPH role was his mirror-universe/bizarro version of himself.
But is that a stoner movie about a couple of geeks or a geek movie about a couple of stoners?
theAngryPuppy.com
I'd go with Geeky stoner
Great List!
Thanks!
And for what it's worth, I gave Keanu the benefit of the doubt in a recent post on our blog. I watched Constantine again last night and tried to pretend that it had nothing to do with the comic so that I could be more impartial.
It didn't work. :P
But you've nominated him, so Keanu fans can unite to put him at the top of our poll once we post the nominees next week. Dear, gods, don't let him win. :)
theAngryPuppy.com
Constantine is a terrible
Too dang many Hellblazers
I read the first two graphic novels a bit ago, and then backed off because there were soooo many, so I'm really grateful for your recommendations and reassurances that it's a 'jump in anywhere' story for the most part.
Given everyone else's responses, I'm really confused by the Hot Geek requirements. Real geeks? Any and all geeks including fictional ones? Wha? I stand by my belief that JB belongs on every hot list ever, it's just a simpler way to live.
In my continuing quest to help you stay current on all sci-fi geekiness around the globe, I'm going to recommend you try to catch the pilot for Phoo Action, one of the series (along with Being Human) that BBC 3 has picked up for next year. It has, in no particular order:
cartoon mutant super villains
Mexican wrestler henchman
a yellow track suit wearing kung-fu cop
magical hot pants
Princes William and Harry
and many other surprisingly entertaining features. There's a trailer on YouTube that doesn't do it justice.
Hot Geeks and Helblazer
Hot Geek 10 Nominations: Anyone hot who played a geek or any actual geeks, loosely defined. We're leaving it open so we can get a broad poll.
I'm looking over my Hellblazers again, and I found another reason to start with the Brian Azzarello issues we pointed out.
Some have criticized him for relegating Constantine to a supporting character in his own series. I didn't feel that way, but there's definitely less of his full mythos in those. Some of the later collections, like Stations of the Cross, are good, but you might be swamped with references and backstory. Highwater and Good Intentions seem more self-contained to me.
They're also more sexually charged, though, so if you're turned off by that, pick up Hard Time. Even though it takes place in prison, Constantine doesn't really have any particular sexuality in that story. It's also a great example of his subtle manipulation skills.
theAngryPuppy.com
Turned off by sex?!?
Dude, I write fanfic. I don't think that will ever be an concern.
I'm going to nominate Violet Blue (I already did at the blog), who is my number one girl crush two years running. And if we're including actors who played geeks, OMG Naoko Mori!!! And I'll add to the Russell Tovey vote, although I think of him less as hot, more as cuddly. (And suddenly I'm thinking I should mention Craig Kelly who was Vince Tyler on the UK QAF, but I may be the only one old enough /Anglophile enough to remember him.)
I'm sure we'll come up with lots and make your job difficult. :P
My Hot Geek 10.
Simon Pegg
Russell Tovey
David Tennant
Robert Webb
Jonathan Ross
The Angry Video Game Nerd
Fruit Brute from GayGamer.net
Rosario Dawson (i'm gay not dead)
And, of course Marc & Lee. ;)
Fruit Brute
Great list except for those two unknowns at the end!
We let Fruit Brute know he was nominated. All you gamers ought to check out gaygamer.net if you haven't already.
We cover the gaming stuff we have time for, but they know it all over at the Gay Gamer Castle.

The idea that I am now
Hellblazer
I like the "Hellblazer: The Gift" TPB by Mike Carey and Leonardo Manco. Constantine goes to hell, literally.
The current team on Hellblazer is Andy Diggle and Leonardo Manco and they're doing a terrific job in my opinion. Check it out. Currently they're taking a 2 issue break but they'll be back in August.
I still am in the process of getting access to season 1 (2005) of Doctor Who. However, I have watched "Planet of Evil" (Tom Baker). I really didn't like that one. It was terrible. However, I watched "Pyramids of Mars" and it was actually OK, I mean I was laughing at the "mummies" but the episode overall was passable. I watched last night's Doctor Who on the Sci Fi channel and again it was merely OK. The episode seemed to foreshadow the Doctor's impending death. I didn't like how easily they infiltrated the corporate infomercial gathering selling Oods. The giant brain was interesting but it was entirely predictable. I will watch Season 1 all the way through before I make a final assessment on Doctor Who.
Last night's Battlestar Galactica WAS AWESOME! I can't wait for you guys' next VLOG! I love the hybrid cylon and Anders trying to link with the Cylon mainframe. Yeah there is a 13th cylon, oh and preview for next week's episode is amazing. I cannot believe they're cutting the season in half and we have to wait until 2009 (this is the plan of the Sci Fi channel we've known all along, 12 episodes now and the rest in 2009). Nana Visitor was amazing too. This episode completely makes up for the boring one last week!!!
Oh
I just watched Doctor Who Season 1 Episode 2: and now I understand how they got through security so easily in last night's episode. A psychic fake "card"?
I take it that there is a great deal of backstory/history that explains a lot of the weirdness and apparent non-sequiturs. Well that's good to know.
Ah yes the psychic paper
I don't remember that ever existing in the original series (but could be wrong?) - I think that was created for the new series. Basically it's psychic paper and the viewer sees whatever the Doctor "projects" onto it. It's basically a device for the writers to allow the Doctor to sweep into various secure locations without lots of convoluted explanation.
But as you'll see it doesn't work on everyone... every Jedi mind trick has its Toydarian. (OOH way to score geek points marc - AWESOME! i know i know thanks.)
The Doctor's Gadgets
The Jedi Mind Trick doesn't work on Hutts either as I recall.
Psychic Paper is a new series thing. Present-day audiences are both more savvy with technology in general and have a higher expectation of the use of gadgetry in Sci-Fi. For example, the present Sonic Screwdriver is a great deal more versatile than it originally was. Also, they felt compelled in the new series to explain that the TARDIS telepathically translates languages for it's passengers. In the old days it was just assumed that the whole universe spoke BBC English, although I do recall the Fourth Doctor making some vague statement about "The Gift of Time Lords" as an explanation for why languages made sense.
Thanks
Marc, Doctor Who seems to be a genre unto itself. It's obviously NOT hard-science fiction. It's part comedy and slight social commentary. It's really unlike anything I've ever watched before. The randomness of the plots from episode to episode is somewhat off-putting. But my reaction is coming from a BSG junkie.
I really enjoy Season 1 so far. Still, holding up a blank piece of paper to bypass security is almost too silly for my tastes but that is a minor part of the episode.
I've read some reviews of the Doctor's Daughter episode (coming up on the Sci Fi Channel) and they are not good. I hope this season ends on a high note though.
Yup. It really is its own thing.
The psychic paper gets more interesting later in S1 and especially in S2.
I loved The Doctor's Daughter, and so has everyone else I know. In my opinion, this season just keeps getting better. I don't know what's up with the reviews you're reading, maybe they had different expectations.
I wouldn't hold out much hope for a "high note" ending. So far, all the cast have been promising a lot of tears, and we saw what that meant when it came to Torchwood.
BSG
Agreed. Very interesting episode. Specially since the responsability of finding earth is, apparently, on the hands of the five and not Starbuck. She is useless now, je je je.
Another interesting thing for me was the interaction of the cylons under stress, how they are experiencing human emotions and how the are copping with all of this. That murdering six was intriguing.
About the 13th, I think they are refering to the 13 tribes of men and not a 13th cylon. But as I was watching this, I was also doing the math. And, didnt they put a little too much enfasys on Gaeta and his reactions after he got shot? Im just saying.
And yes, Nana Visitor was great.
Hope for future episodes
I suspect that the episodes will remain at a high quality from now on.
What do you think of the two Oracles we've seen on the show so far. They both were privy to information that was CORRECT and it was not possible for them to know what they knew.
In relation to my theory, they along with all of humanity must be cylons. For some reason, the "Oracles" were given information by the Cylon "God" to help the "morality play" along.
BSG and hope
I hope that too.
The Oracles. Well, I dont know. But Im going to ramble anyway. Just to recap, there have been two right? The one in New Caprica that gives information on Hera to one of the threes and the one who talked to Kara and foretold the return of Leoben for her and give her the "answer".
Not too long ago, I read an article about the theology present in BSG. I remember that the mythology of the new series is very similar to the older version, the human side at least. What I didnt know, is that was based in Mormon mythology and the Book of Mormon.
So Ron Moore took it and ran with it. And it was when he was creating the character of Number Six, at the moment of that first meeting after being a no show during the armistice, that he decided to give the cylon a theology of their own.
The article mentions that, aparently, Mormons have a concept of cyclical change, of destruction and rebirth. Now, I mention this because this ideas are more and more present on BSG. Especially in Razor.
If you remember, the first hybrid cylon says to Kendra:
"As my own existence comes to a close, only to begin anew, in ways uncertain."
"All this has happened before, and it will happen again...again...again...again...again...again...again..."
So, if this is like a Matrix scenario where everything gets destroyed to be born again, that might explain how information could be passed down to the next cycle. At this point, I really dont know. But it was just a thought.
BTW. I saw Razor on DVD and remembered the hybrid rambling, but not with much detail. So I searched for transcripts and found a few interesting things. The version I saw was the extended one and did not know this was not in the broadcast:
The hybrid talking to himself:
"At last, they’ve come for me. I feel their lives, their destinies spilling out before me. The denial of the one true path, played out on a world not their own, will end soon enough. Soon there will be four, glorious in awakening, struggling with the knowledge of their true selves, the pain of revelation bringing new clarity, and in the midst of confusion, he will find her. Enemies brought together by impossible longing, enemies now joined as one. The way forward at once unthinkable, yet inevitable. And the fifth, still in shadow, will claw toward the light, hungering for redemption that will only come in the howl of terrible suffering. I can see them all. The seven, now six, self-described machines who believe themselves without sin, but in time, it is sin that will consume them. They will know enmity, bitterness, the wrenching agony of the one splintering into the many, and then they will join the promised land, gathered on the wings of an angel. Not an end, but a beginning."
If that is not a definite clue to the final cylon, I dont know what is. So Im going to start the elinination process, yet again.
Leonardo Manco - Major Kira
I definitely agree that the recent stories are good. I'm not sure it's a great place to start, but, if you don't have time (or the inclination) to read all the back issues, don't let me keep you from just picking up the latest and jumping in!
Nana Visitor in BSG! OMFG. If you don't remember, her likeness is in our Gallery of Gay Action Figures in the form of Intendant Kira.
It sucks that all gays and bisexuals from Star Trek are in the Mirror Universe, but it's a step in some direction, at least.

My Hot Geeks
1. Bryan Singer - Always found him sexy in a geeky way. I secretly kind of like the way he's a total skeeze with male extras the way a straight director would be with girls (google the story about him, X-men 1's original Pyro and a hot tub)
2. Sean Mayer (Firefly)
3. Ryan Reynolds (Blade/Wolverine/The Nines) has the wit and delivery of a geek, body of well, a superhero
4. Justin Theroux (Moulholland Drive, Charlie's Angels 2 etc etc)
5. Ben Browder (Farscape)
6. Emile Hirsch (speed racer, milk)
7. Nicolas Brendan (From Buffy's season 1-4 lets say, before he got all puffy and eye-patchy)
8. Allan Heinberg (Young Avengers, check out his Myspace, hes so cute)
9. Bryan Fuller (Heroes, Pushing Daisies)
10. Joss Whedon (obvi)
Another Great List
Oh, but I like puffy, eye-patchy Xander.

Top Ten Hot Geeks
In no particular order
Alan Tudyk (Firefly)
Russell Tovey (Being Human)
Marc (TheAngryPuppy)
Lee (The Angry Puppy)
Van Hansis (ATWT) (Theater Geek?)
Lt. Gaeta (BSG) (He was a scientific fanboy of Gaius Baltar)
The Leader of "The Lone Gunmen" (That nerdy guy in a suit. He has a beard)
Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) (Yeah, a sick choice I know)
Michael Cera
Paul Rudd (Just because he's hot)
I Forgot
I should have added Zachary Quinto to the list. Quinto is playing Mr. Spock after all and you can't get much more geeky-er than that.
And we all saw him in the Sauna from those clips of Tori Spelling's "show".
Zachary Quinto Needs No Excuse
Great list up above too!

Should I repost my top 10 list on your www.TheAngryPuppy.com Website, or is the posting here enough?
