Lee and Marc seem to be in particularly bubbly moods in this week's Angry Puppy ... could it have something to do with the mystery taste test substance that they mention at the start of the episode? You'll have to watch yourself to see what it's all about ... Effervescence aside, the fellas have tons of stuff to talk about ranging from the Drawn Together DVDs to Sulu's wedding to the Andromeda Strain remake, and much more. Plus, the XXtremest Mystery Geek Challenge ever! Check it out after the break! Submitted by on Wed, 2008-06-11 09:27. |

Why do I want Grape Soda now?
Hopefully you got some sleep a week later, Marc.
Yeah, Sine Qua Non sucked, unless there is a cut-scene on the DVD of Apollo and Helo making out. (Wishful thinking).
On the next Vlog BSG's "The Hub" should be interesting. I was actually mixed on this episode. Although it is a vast improvement over "Sine Qua Non" it is flawed.
Flaw #1: No Imaginary Six in Baltar's head; there wasn't even Imaginary Baltar in Baltar's head; the fact we haven't seen Imaginary Six and Imaginary Baltar in a long time is poor storytelling. Wouldn't Imaginary Six have instructed Baltar how to communicate with the Cylon Hybrid?
Flaw #2: Elosha (The Dead Pagan Priestess) comes out of nowhere in a vision to save Baltar's life AND ROSLIN IS STUPID ENOUGH TO BE INFLUENCED BY HER; this is not the Laura "airlock" Roslin we've all grown to love.
Flaw #3: Very muddy and nonsensical concepts of Cylon technologies: If the Cylons could build one Hub they can easily build another and would have back up copies to begin with; Hubs apparently also act as Resurrection Ships (D'anna's resurrection & the multitudes of 8's bodies) except their transmission receiving range is vastly larger than ordinary Resurrection Ships: which begs the question "Why don't they just use the Hubs instead of the ordinary Resurrection Ships?"; Why did they claim that the D'anna in possession of President Roslin IS THE ONLY ONE LEFT IN THE UNIVERSE? Are Not there D'anna's on the occupied Caprica? What about the Cylon Homeworld where they settled for 40 years? Finally, the ALL of the Cylons' ability to Resurrect has NOT been destroyed because there must be Resurrection Techology on Occupied Caprica and the Cylon Homeworld. Only the Cylons in pursuit of the Colonialists cannot resurrect all the other Cylons are fine.
These flaws notwithstanding it was a very entertaining episode. The action was interesting if not a bit incoherent and the anticipation of D'anna's interaction with the known final five in hiding will be interesting for the next show. The Omniscience of the Cylon Hybrid is interesting because it seems to indicate a real-time Faster than Light communications connection with ALL Cylons. Baltar's attempted manipulation of the Cylon Centurion was amusing. D'anna's verbal sparring with Cavil(1) was excellent. D'anna also continues to have a healthy skepticism of human nature even though she's met the final five.
Baltar was visited by Imaginary Six on a Cylon Basestar in Season 3 episode "Torn". So he has had these visitations before in Cylon custody and there is no reason they should just stop in "The Hub".
What are you guy's views on having a Battlestar Galactica TV Movie between Season 4 halves? I'm in favor if they're as good as RAZOR. Perhaps they'll be about the antiquated Cylons. If anything they should focus on the Cylons and their natures.
BSG Movies
I'm highly in favor of BSG movies in the gap between episodes. Razor was great, though I've yet to watch the extended version that's on the DVD. [Adds to list.]
theAngryPuppy.com
You'll Like the DVD of RAZOR
They incorporate the Webisodes from www.Scifi.com that aired in the weeks leading up to the release. For the most part they center around William Adama in his days as a pilot during the First Cylon War. And there are more cool special effects.
The new movies, if there are any, should focus on the cylons. For example, they could be about when the Humanoid Cylon Models are first made and become self-aware. It would be cool to see how #3 and #6 were like at the very beginning. And maybe Leoben was even hotter back then.
Jamie Bamber
When I saw him in only a towel in that BSG episode I made the same sound Homer Simpson makes when he sees a box of fresh donuts.
I should have put Jamie Bamber at the top of my Top Ten Hot Geeks list.
Another good moment in Battlestar Galactica Season 3 was when Helo got Apollo back into shape in just 15 minutes. There was probably a scene they cut that didn't even make it to the DVD where Apollo and Helo are sparring and Helo pins Apollo and they have a moment like when Apollo and Dualla were sparring. Some FanFic cannot be ignored.

The hours approaching, to give it your best
You've got to reach your prime.
That’s when you need to put yourself to the test
And show us a passage of time
Were going to need a montage (montage)
Ooh it takes a montage (montage)
Sure a lot of things happing at once,
Remind everyone what’s going on (what’s going on)
And when every shot you show a little improvement
Just show it all or it will take to long
That’s called a montage (montage)
Ooh we want montage (montage)
And anything that we want to know
From just a beginner to a pro,
You want a montage (montage)
Even rocky had a montage (montage)

If you fade out
It seem like more time has passed in a montage

Nice to have you back
Well, OK, thanks to your blog you weren't really gone, but you know what I mean.
Fun vlog, as always, but the giggling? How much Mountain Dew did you have? Adorable though :)
Nice review of Jumper, which I thought was completely fair, although I felt Lee was a little scathing of The Andromeda Strain, given that he criticized almost everything that was loyal to the book while lauding the technology (bacterial bacteriophages? That scares me, although I want some :P). Also, its not just the TV labs that have dodgy lighting, some of the labs I've seen IRL are like that too.
Just a couple more things: Marc, you pronounce Latin better than most of the people I know who've studied Latin, so don't worry, also it's Whoniverse not Doctor Whoniverse, at least around here (Britain) it is.
Stay cute :)
P.S. you may wanna ignore everything I said here, I'm slightly drunk on gin and GnR at the moment X)
The Andromeda *Strain*
Oh, I haven't been called "scathing" in months. ;)
My only real complaint about The Andromeda Strain is that it was too lo-o-ong and drawn out. I haven't read the book, but I hope it didn't take four pages to describe a guy putting a keycard into a slot.
I didn't like all of the technology - just the electronic paper they were passing around. I was reaching for something nice to say about it besides that everyone was pretty. :D
All three of those drinks probably go well with gin, btw.
theAngryPuppy.com
It was long originally too
I hope it didn't take four pages to describe a guy putting a keycard into a slot.
Four? Try 6-7 pages and you're in the right area :P
And meanwhile
Just start with
amo, amas, amat and work your way up from there you'll do fine.
And to quote Angel "v sounds like w, sound each vowel seperately". That's all there is to it :) (more or less)
Good hints
Of course, once you do that
Vini, Vidi, Vici becomes Weeny, Weedy, Weechy, not quite as cool.
www.thebittersuite.blogspot.com
"I am the wondrous Wizard of Latin!"
Sorry, I just had to say that.
I'll be quiet now.
Treehouse of Terror
I have a feeling that the majority of your Simpsons quotes will come from "Treehouse of Terror" episodes. :P
theAngryPuppy.com
Yeah, Latin's Dull
Try Russian. ;)
люблю, любишь, любит
And contrary to what you learned form Chekhov, "v" doesn't sound like "w".
"Keptain, there's an alien wessel!"
theAngryPuppy.com
Grrr
Great with languages, cute and scathing enough to call Latin 'dull'. Could you be anymore evilly attractive? >:(
P.S. I am trying Russian now :P
I kid, I kid...
And, of course, now someone will post something in Chinese or Urdu and shut me up. ;)

Andromeda
So, the mini-series was even more faithful to the book than I thought. ;)

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same product in all cans
I bet they're actually just testing their packaging.
Too bad about the Torchwood news. I hope this doesn't mean the series is coming to an end.
Apparently season three of
Apparently season three of Torchwood is going to be just one story told over the five hour long episodes and will be shown, like you said, in just one week!? According to Julie Gardner, producer, fans will be really pleased with the casting, so with any luck Martha will be in it.
Marc should love the last episode of this series of Doctor Who 'Journey's End', because Martha,Captain Jack, Rose, Sarah Jane and others from the past, are all supposed to be in it. Yippee.
I love your vlogs.

gin :D
I love your vlogs.
me too. I think I looked a bit like marc during the last seconds of your taping while WAITING for your new vlog.
1. martha: I like the character and I like Freema Agyeman but I don't like her as a companion to David Tennant. I think they both just look too good. There has to be a contrast - I guess I would have liked her with Christopher Ecclestone.
And she really fitted in with Torchwood - because the whole show looks a bit more polished (at least tries to ) .
2. If it goes on like this you are going to make me watch bsg & lost, too. Not that I wouldn't like to - but you know - it takes so much time to be an appropriate geek *sigh* ;-)
3. Gin: I have a suggestion for another geek-list. You had this music-geek-band one ( I would have highly recommended them but maybe it's a bit too late now)
But while being a bit drunk on gin-tonic(s) a few days ago and youtubing (what I just love to do when drunk ) - i came (again) across this. And i remembered that - long long time ago (1988 to be precise - oh my god, that's 20 years ago, I can't believe that) - when I was 14 - I listened to a wonderful new radio-show at our local radio-station that brought to us the british independent top-30. An though I prefered all the guitar based bands (wedding present, darling buds, primitives etc) or the strange ones (see first link) there was this band called "justified ancients of mu mu" doing strange electronic stuff. I liked them because of their name. And then they called themselves Timelords and had this big hit: "doctorin the tardis" (see second link above). I loved that and as far as I remember I even taped it on cassette and wrote something like this "timelords - tardes (??? )" - because I hadn't got a clue what this was all about.
Now I know - and influenced by the gin I guess, i remembered this and this, too. So, what about a list of tv-series made into (sort of) pop-songs?
BSG, Lost and Gin
Others will disagree, but I think it might be best to watch BSG and Lost on DVD so that you can watch at your own pace. The gaps between seasons are far too long, and some sections of both shows are sluggish enough that you might consider stopping unless you're a huge fan.
So, if we haven't spoiled everything for you, rent them from Netflix. :D
Music - Thanks for these! I'm not blogging as much these days (you'll notice that our episodes are now longer - I'm trying to focus on the vlogs), but I solicited geek music ideas recently so that I can share them with everybody on the blog and maybe introduce people to new stuff.

I loved it so much I posted
I loved it so much I posted it twice.
Sorry about that.
No Worries
It boosts the comment count and makes us look more popular. ;)
Just like this one.
theAngryPuppy.com
Locke>Bentham
I don't watch Lost, so I can't tell you whether they apply to the character, but they both had ideas about individual and collective rights and actions. Bentham was (sort of) the founder of Utilitarianism (acting in a way that produces the greatest good for the greatest number of people), and Locke was all about the Social Contract (the rights and responsibilities of the indivisual towards the stare, and vice-versa) The founding fathers were big fans of Locke.
Lots of similarities, though Locke was a bigger fan of 'no one has the right to damage you or your property', and Bentham was more 'unless by doing so they stop damage happening to more people'.
Ginsing is used in lots of Energy drinks/supplements because it gives boost to alertness without most of the negatives of caffeine, but there's not usually enough of it to have effect, so it's more of a buzzword then an actual active ingredient. Its also used in Native American/Traditional Chinese medicine to treat male sexual disfunction.
Glad to see Jamie wasn't forgotten.
Locke, Bentham and Sexual Disfunction
I can't quite put my finger on what's going to happen, but I think you've hit on the Locke/Bentham thing right there. And you don't even watcht the show. Maybe if I give you a list of all the characters, you can re-construct the whole series. :)
Ginseng/sexual disfunction - No comment.
Jamie Bamber - Definitely not forgotten. I tend to work on Angry Puppy in my free time at 2-3 AM. I'm not sure how he slipped out, but maybe I should be drinking that Mountain Dew after all?
theAngryPuppy.com
See, the fact that there
See, the fact that there was a character named after Locke was almost enough to get me watching, because I love the Social Contract. I love it so much I nearly took philosophy before I remembered it was the only thing in philosophy I enjoyed at all. From what I hear though, a move towards more utalitarian thought would probably make sense.
At least without Jamie, I couild vote for Jonny Lee Miller, who was my first ever geek crush. Back when I thought the internet actually looked like a holographic city... A friend of mine got a stomach ulcer from Mountain Dew, so I avoid the stuff like the plague. Not difficult, as they don't sell it over here.
Multiple Companions...
I have to admit, I like the show better when there are multiple companions. It adds an extra element in to it all. What is really wierding me out is the Rose appearances. Can anyone explain what is going on with this? Or at least fathom a theory?
I saw a commercial for Dew and there was a three way tug of war going on for the flavor, I guess we know now it's just Grape :-)
Can't wait for the next vlog
Don't worry about Torchwood
People keep forgetting that this is a UK show; most British series run for six episodes at a time. Torchwood and Doctor Who were exceptional at 13 episodes per series, and it's not really surprising that when a budget crunch occurred, the extra long runs would get shortened. Even if they do the four or five Doctor Who special as were originally planned (and there have been rumors that the budget cuts have reduced those numbers as well), Torchwood would end up about even. None of my UK-based friends are worried about the show, they're just glad it's back on the schedule. And it's still possible that we could see a second short run later in the year.
I'm actually excited about a single story mini series, because it would allow the writers to pace the story differently, and we might get to see more Jack and Ianto, outside the office at last! (I just got the book Trace Memory, and Jack calls Ianto 'Tiger Pants'!)
I'm amused and a bit confused that you keep referring to the "fanboy" invasion, when I know for a fact that most of the army was comprised of straight girls. Which would have irked me less if fansites for all the shows represented had been tipped off, and not just the Doctor Who/Torchwood and Supernatural fanbases.
Torchwood Mini-Series
Thanks, Megh! That puts it in a more optimistic perspective.
(Tiger Pants?)
That's true about the fans. I was spelling it "fanbois" in my head because that's what the PC people were hurling at the Mac people when 10.5 came out. I suppose that's meant to be more insulting.
Let's be PC and say "fanpeople". ;) Oh, wait, those are just "fans," but that's no fun.
theAngryPuppy.com
Tiger Pants, but never 'Sport'
For anyone who is suffering from Torchwood withdrawal, the books are a pretty good stop-gap alternative. I know most tie-in novels are pretty ridiculous, and the first three TW books (Another Life, Border Princes and Slow Decay) are more or less forgettable (although Border Princes has elements of "Adam" and Slow Decay could have influenced "Reset"), but the straight-to-audio books, Hidden and Everyone Says Hello, are fun, and the second set of three (from which Trace Memory is the 2nd) is quite good.
The context of Tiger Pants is a comment Jack makes, "Whatcha doing there, Sport ?" (the answer is watching Bond movies) and Ianto replies that 'Sport' is an unacceptable term of endearment, so Jack offers 'Tiger Pants' instead.
Yes! Finally!
You're back! My neighbours can sleep easy at night, no frantic pacing around at night waiting for your new Vlog from me.....until I start getting impatient again.
I agree about Sine Qua Non. I aired early on Sky One, but really wasn't that much of a gain. I did like all the twists but it felt all....disjointed, like they were just going through the motions of setting everything up instead of trying to do it in a cool narrative way.
I dodn't see why you think Sun blames Ben for Jin's death. Where are you getting that from? I thought it was clear it was Jack, because he told Frank not to go back for him.
Heh. Now I'm curious about Mountain Dew....
Future-Sun vs, Ben
I thought it was Ben because Future-Sun tells Widmore that they have common interests, and I took that to mean that they're both trying to kill Ben. He is, after all, the one who caused the boat to explode by killing Keamy. Sun doesn't know that in the present, but Future-Sun might, since Locke does. We know Locke gets off the island at some point, so it's possible he told her.
Of course, I blame Jack. When Kate ran in to get Jin and sent Sun back to the helicopter, I thought, "Wow, I love her." Then Jack grabs Kate and forces her into the chopper too. If he had left her alone, she could have gotten Jin out of there in time.
Whoever it is, good luck to them going against the mighty Future-Sun.

Youre back!
Thanks - great to be back!
Great!
BSG Mid Season Finale
EXTREME MYSTERY GEEK CHALLENGE
Wow... have we finally stumped you guys?
[SPOILER ALERT] Here's a hint if anybody wants, but don't read this if you want to try Extreme Mystery Geek Challenge without the hint.
1. The actual items on the list, though unrelated to anything in this week's vlog, are definitely not too obscure for you; it's that they're harder to catch than usual because of a slight twist.
2. We really won't be PO'd if anyone figures it out.
okay...
I think I'm way off but I think it has to do with food or alcohol, I just can't figure it out.
Mystery Geek Challenge
I got nothin'.
Ectasy?
BSG Revelations
I can't wait for you guy's next two Vlogs.
I liked the episode. However, I also read Entertainment Weekly's rundown of the special screening Ron Moore did of this episode. I don't like what I'm hearing. I have a feeling that Season 4 part 2 may devolve into a "Sopranos" series finale which would be a VERY VERY VERY VERY BAD thing. Yes, "it's about the characters", HOWEVER, the Science Fiction aspects of the show MUST BE RESOLVED TO OUR SATISFACTION. If the Sci-Fi-y parts of the show are summarily ignored because Ron Moore really has no idea what's he doing, then I'm affraid that BSG will go down as a sublime failure but a failure nonetheless.
We're covering two BSGs in the next episode
Lost got that big two-hour finale, so we're covering BSG "The Hub" and "Revelations" in the next episode. I'm just treating this as a season finale, because I don't buy that mid-season business when there's so much space between season "halves".
All will be revealed. Errr, well, at least all that we know.
