In this special closet-cleaning edition, Marc and Lee finally get rid
of their old VHS tapes and find some Star Wars paraphernalia they
forgot they had.
In between the riveting housecleaning scenes, find out what's going on
in JJ Abrams' new series, Fringe, and get re-acquainted with your
favorite cyborg in the new season of Terminator: The Sarah Connor
Chronicles. The guys also have a look at the soon-to-be-released Iron
Man DVD, John Barrowman's navel-gazing documentary and the indie
horror film Murder Party.
All this and more geeky goodness, right after the jump!

I agree the John Barrowman
I agree the John Barrowman thing was a bit cheesy but my mum watched it and she liked it. I think she watched it because my nephew told her that he's gay about a month ago and she used to say "I don't understand it", and I think the show helped her to understand a little better.
I've also noticed that she's started saying gay where she used to say queer? Maybe she thinks it's kinder? Now that she actually knows someone who's gay her view seems to have shifted somewhat.
"Gay for straight"
Great vlog as usual!
yay, Angry Puppy on After Elton (and Sven Regner on TV but that's another story) - that's what I call a nice start into the weekend.
Umm - I think "cheesy" and "hamming it up" are kinda redundant descriptions when it comes to John Barrowman, aren't they? He rarely is NOT :D
There is a rather strange cooking program (I feel allowed to mention it because of your pumpkin-bread recipe) with Barrowman in it A taste of my life - where you get to see more of his parents (who are just hilarious) and his sister's family poking fun at his Captain Jack Action-Figure. And as far as I remember it's also the program where he tells where and by whom he was told how to do that cheesy smile of his.
His partner is gorgeous.
Loved loved loved the tribbles-episode of ds9. Oh I want to see the whole series again *sigh*
As usual - can't say anything to all the other things you talked about but it was great fun!
Oh yes he is a tasty nice
We sure like John Barrowman's husband, and they have cute dog too! Oh and thank you for giving us more of the Barrowmans (why isn't THAT a Torchwood spinoff?).
Lee and I just finished watching the entire DS9 series again on Netflix. It holds up remarkably well. Aside from being my favorite Star Trek series it has some of my favorite sci fi characters anywhere, specifically Kai Winn, Odo, Quark, Garak, Weyoun, and of course Jadzia Dax.
Morn?!
How could you forget Morn?

Great look
Great look on the blog guys. So much easier to navigate. Congrats!
I think you perfectly described why I lost interest in Terminator and just stopped watching. There was no spark. I was really disappointed of how little interest this show produced on me after a while, I expected more. I must admit that Summer Glau has a lot to do with it. Have the last 3 episodes recorded and if the second season is getting better, Im gonna make the effort.
Fringe...havent made up my mind yet. I hope they dont take the fact they are dealing with pseudo science to just pull out stuff out of their...sleves, when it come to the plot. There have been a couple of times that I have asked myself...how the heck did they reach that conclusion? When there are a lot of epiphanies in a show, I tend to think there is bad writing behind it. I expect more of the creators of this show.
And since you briefly mention BSG, what do you think of all the chatter of the past months? Now that the movies is a go and we know the general date of the next episodes, do you guys have more info? Caprica? I know, im missing this show.
Great blog, as always.
Good Reviews
Thanks guys. Another great Vlog.
I don't think we have much to worry about in terms of "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles". According to EW.com's Michael Ausiello the ratings are abyssmal for the Season Premiere and the ratings took another dip for the second episode. This show is not long for this world. Which is unfortunate for Sci-Fi Fans like myself because this show has better "real Sci-Fi" (read: Speculative Fiction) than either Battlestar Galactica or Doctor Who. At the heart of the Terminator Mythos is "SkyNet" the "Singularity" Super-Artificial-Intelligence that goes to war with the Human Race. Now, "Singularity" is a term in sci-fi that refers to a technological future where technology advances at such an exponential rate that it literally escapes humanity's ability to comprehend it. For people who are really into Electrical/Computer Engineering, this is a fascinating concept. For those who aren't, well then I guess you would rather have a root canal. And obviously those people are in the majority since this series is doing REALLY BADLY in the Ratings.
Fringe is simply going over the same territory that the X-Files has. And for me IT IS INTOLERABLY BORING. Yes, Massive Dynamics is a cool concept, but I have no confidence in JJ Abrams that he'll actually explore it in any meaningful way as proven by "LOST". I almost want that head of Massive Dynamics to be the center of the show instead of the Moldy and Scullard clones we're stuck with. Of course, beginning a new series on FOX is a recipe for disaster. Neither fair nor balanced.
Coraline is being Butchered by its director. DAMN. They've made several, in my opinion, unforgivable alterations to the stories in order to make it palatable to the Studio Executives. They've added a young male character that is your stock gross-out tween that "fascinates" the female lead. He plays with live slugs in an attempt to "charm" Coraline. "The Other Mother" is voiced by Terri Hatcher - and not very well. In this "movie" "the Other Mother" is explicitly a witch instead of the cool fairytale-like monster in the novel. Some of these details were gleaned from interviews on Sci-fi Wire.
Neil Gaiman should really learn to put his foot down with his Hollywood projects. Beowulf was bad, it didn't improve upon the original viking myths at all - and we already know Angeline Jolie is a demonic monster - no reveal there. Stardust was vastly better as an illustrated novel than a movie and the Robert Deniro character ADDED NOTHING. So far, Gaiman is 0 for 3 in the Hollywood game. Here's hoping he grows a pair.
Hellblazer will be written by Simon Oliver from Issue 251 on. Issue 250 will be a "Christmas" special - so it should be especially gruesome. Fortunately, I love the artist Leonardo Manco and he's staying on with Oliver.
I have to ask
Why no commentary?
I don't think my comment was offensive. But apparently you do.
Sorry - haven't been around
We weren't online much this weekend (for once).
Not sure that I see Terminator doing that badly in the ratings; it slipped in the past couple weeks which is normal viewer shift especially for a show that premiered early on when viewers are more likely to sample other shows while waiting for their favorites to return. Looking at the past week it looks like the show tied with NBC for rating and share, though it was a pretty close night across the board.
Haven't been following Coraline development but will be interesting to see what happens; i liked Stardust but I didn't read the original and suspect you're right that it's better than the adaptation.
Yay on Hellblazer - can never get enough of that!
Did I mention...
Dakota Fanning is the voice of "Coraline".
...
Yeah. I need some Alka-seltzer too.
Damn those incompetent Martians!
Sound quality
While I enjoy the vlog and the subject matter, the sound drives me nuts. I have to turn my speakers way up to begin with, and then whenever you guys turn your heads (which is a lot) the sound goes away. Half the time I think you're channeling Lena Lamonte from Singin' in the Rain.
A little better sound recording and maybe omnidirectional mics will go a long way in keeping me tuned in.
Thanks.
Oh, thank goodness!
Thanks for the heads up!
I'll see what I can do to make it better.
Maybe there's a better mic in another closet. Next episode: cleaning out the hardware drawers.

Visible mikes would be fine
You're doing a science fiction vlog, it would be perfectly okay to have bits of tech on your bodies/faces. It would make you look like starfighter pilots, maybe!
No, not "distant gay traces" -- it's distingué traces!
Plan 9
I loved Plan 9 From Outer Space, you can't throw something that fantastically cheesy out!
As for voces video I googled it to and had a look around but either theres no viral site for it or its pretty well hidden. Anyway, I did find a discussion about it with links that other people have found as well as speculation about plot.

Lastly I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the John Barrowman documentary when it was out over here, I think that it didn't really have very much new information for the gay viewers but I think that it really helped viewers who previously hadn't had much idea about why people are gay to understand a bit more. Also having a well known out actor who gay/straight fans alike can relate to would probably help to get the message across. (I just wish my parents had watched it!)
Plan 9 and secret messages
Oh we still love Plan 9, we just love it on DVD or other digital formats! The fact is we eliminated the VCR months ago and all these old tapes have nothing to play on any more. "For a time we tried to contact them by radio, but no response. Then they attacked a town. A small town, I'll admit. But nevertheless a town of people. People who died." Indeed.
Great discussion thread on Voces Video - thanks!
Lina Lamont!
More Barrowman!
