Avatar of the Week: kyle221!That's right, folks -- it's time again to highlight one of our favorite member images (uh, I probably could have worded that better...) in our Avatar of the Week feature. In the past we've celebrated avatars for being cute, clever, sexy, creative, and pretty much everything else -- but today I'm selecting a pic based on nostalgia. kyle221 (probably just "kyle", to his pals ... or maybe just "221"?) is a student at Western Washington (please tell me that's in Walla Walla), is vegetarian, and like any good Northwestern queer loves Sleater-Kinney (who sadly broke up not too long ago). He studies LGBT issues at school and apparently can read, as he's got lots of favorite books listed in his profile. So why the nostalgia? Well, growing up in Iowa, my mother had a pathological aversion to pink lawn flamingos. So one year as a surprise my father threw her a big party at the house and had everyone bring a handful of the things, so when they pulled up in the car the yard was literally a plague of pink plastic tackiness. kyle221 was likely referencing the classic gay film by John Waters, but for me he plucked one of my few remaining heartstrings. Thanks! To be included in the fun, be sure to register! Submitted by on Thu, 2007-06-28 09:23. |

Passing The Tiara
Congrats, Kyle!
Good luck; don't let all the ribbon-cutting ceremonies, goodwill ambasadorships, and talk show appearances overwhelm you, and you'll come through all this fame and glory as humbly and magnanimously as moi.
Dave
Thank you, thank ou, I'll do
Thank you, thank ou, I'll do my best. To be honest, I was surprised to see my name show up this morning, because I always forget to log in and so I have a habit of posting anonymously. But I'll wear the tiara with pride!

Walla Walla is in eastern Washington, silly guy. Walla Walla is home to Whitman College, my alma matter. Shane Johnson (Sean Cooper from CSI's "Forever Blue") is also an alum. Nothing like four years in W^2!
