Battle of the Network Gays: June 19

Every Friday we pick the gays in television who have had the best week and leave it to you, the keepers of the flame, to decide who will be crowned Gay of the Week and enjoy their own fancy button over on the left. We'll announce the winner on Monday, and that champ will reign until a new set of challengers are introduced the following Friday to try to steal his title.

Last week you voted the adorable and omnipresent out actor Neil Patrick Harris into the throne, but for some reason this week he wasn't as "omni" as usual, and he kept out of the spotlight. So we have an empty throne and four new challengers who want to park their poopers in it.

Check them out, and vote for your favorite!

This week's contenders:

Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis) from True Blood (Why?)

Calvin (Paul James) from Greek (Why?)

Bryan Safi from "That's Gay" on infoMania (Why?)

Dustin Lance Black on Anderson Cooper 360 (Why?)

Vote for your favorite by 8 AM EDT on Monday, June 22. And be sure to check back next week to see which gay our readers have carried to glory!

DUSTIN LANCE BLACK FTW!

For having grace under fire.

For keeping his eyes on the prize.

For neither hiding from nor counter-attacking the haters.

For speaking truth to power when he has the mic.

For being an incredible writer and inspiration to teens.

I don't wish the week he's had on anyone but he DID HIS THANG

I'm proud to have his as our NYC Pride Grand Marshal!

Nothing but love for DLB.

p.s.,  My runner up is Brent H for his fabulous column last week!

"That's our job today: to control the extent to which people can publicly manifest antigay sentiment." (Bayard Rustin)  **   "Heterosexuality is not normal, it's just common" (Dorothy Parker)

DLB should be taken to task

Sorry but DLB should be pilloried for barebacking.  We didn't live and lose through the initial years of the AIDS crisis for nothing.

It's bad enough rates of new infections among young gay men have been rising in recent years but now we see even this prominent "icon" of gay youth is just an ignorant fool disrespecting the hard-learned lessons of the people upon whose lives he makes his living.

I'm disgusted with him and his defenders who say it isn't our business. That's the kind of attitude which keeps the disease spreading from one generation to the next.

what?

I can't understand all the anger i have seen over this barebacking crap. i feel like people automatically assume the man he was with is diseased.

yes, i know, it's good to be careful. but maybe the relationship was serious. maybe dustin used his mature, GROWN UP mind to make the decision whether to have 'safe sex' or not.

I think he, like most adults understand the risks of sex with or without protection.

He's a grown man. Plus, people act like he does this all the time. this seemed to be one sex incident of his that got caught on camera.  maybe he had safe sex the next time. or maybe he had safe sex a few nights before the taped incident.

sometimes people, gay AND straight use protection....sometimes they don't. In Dustin's case, i don't think this ONE incident takes away anything he has done.
