"Battlestar Galactica" to out two gay characters in upcoming webseries
It's being reported that the upcoming Battlestar Galactica mid-season bridge webisodes ("The Face of the Enemy") set to premiere before the show returns in January will out two of its male characters, giving the show some much-needed diversity ... for the last half of its final season. Well, better late than never. To find out which two of the guys will be making out online (seriously!) before the series returns, head on through the jump...
Yes, it's Gaeta (Alessandro Juliani) ... and Hoshi!
Reports say that the guys have a pretty intense smooch, so we'll be tuning in. No word on whether the relationship will actually be picked up for the series itself. So is this a shock, Battlestar fans? As much as a shock as seeing Michelle Forbes with a giant pig on True Blood? I guess with a name like "Gaeta" he was kind of asking for it, huh? Ha! *****!

.....are these going to air overseas? I still haven't seen the ones between S2 and S3 because they didn't sh them here or put them on the DVD :( ......... Although I haven't checked Youtube for them in a while.
***** isn't a surprise
Baltar Thing?
Nope
Are you talking about what
Rear Admiral Helena Cain was
It is a surprise
Please don't give away spoiler info in subject lines!
Oh dear....
Finally!
Seriously, it's been frakking obvious for how long? The actors make jokes about it. The producers and the directors and the writers make jokes about it.
but yay for complex, non-stereotypical characters onscreen. In american sci-fi at that. Hmm. i have a Galactica convention in a few week's time. maybe we can ask them about their opinion on this.
Really?
The shock...Oh, we always knew about Gaeta, its was just a matter of time. Hoshi was a surprise.
At least they are dealing with it, even if its not on, well, the mothership. It has been the real omission on this show.
Indeed
Yep, Gaeta is kinda a no-brainer, but I totally called Hoshi when I saw Razor...
Actually, I just kinda always pretend that a character is gay unless explicitly stated otherwise. Helps combat the aforementioned glaring omissions, if only in my mind.
I know what you mean. But I
Mmmm, toasty!
Well, YAY!!
DVD comments
I remember Alessandro Juliani complained, on the DVD extras, of Geata's lack of romantic life. He said he didn't care if it was with a woman or a man, he just wanted Geata to get some action. It's true that he is one of the last fairly main character who never has had a romance.
And sure, Rear Admiral Helena Cain was a lesbian, but she died in the same episode she came out. The same thing happened on "Lost". What's the deal, after 3-4 years they finally realised they don't have any gay characters, so they bring some in when they are just about to die or already dead... I hope this won't happen to Geata, his story line should be good in the last few episodes (if you remember what happened in the first half on season 4).
*Yawn*
Cool!
They finally listened!
They finally listened!
I'm glad the producers got some brains and listened to all of us who wrote in to ask for a gay character on BSG! And wow, Gaeta and Hoshi, I'm really looking forward to that.
Finally, Gaeta's queerness is confirmed...
I'm really glad they had the guts to actually do this on the show (OK, a webisode but nontheless), cause once it's on video... it's canon. It's indisputable.
If they'd "revealed" afterwards that Gaeta is gay, then only the most avid fans would know about it. Casuals viewers who just watch the show and don't bother looking stuff up about it on the web, they simply would never know.
I was actually thinking the other week that it would be great if they outed Gaeta since that would make him one of the more positive gay representations on mainstream TV since he's a very well-rounded and believable character.
Of course, it's a bit a shame that it's brought up in a webisode rather than an actual episode of the show, but even still it's a huge step forward. I say this cause a lot more people are prone to go looking for extra tie-in video material than they are likely to stumble across some interview or post that just happens to mention that Gaeta is gay.
