It's hysterical because the cowboy-football players' bodies are completely wrong for the sport--they're all sporting that early-80's-Broadway-dancer look, very lean and muscular, yet not built. Maybe they could've played a baseball team ("Damn Yankees" anyone?) or soccer team, but a football team? Fuggeddabouttit.
Got to YouTube and look up "Mad TV football kiss"--Ike Barinholz and Josh Meyers macking down in football jerseys is almost too much to handle.
