Big Brother 9: Well that was quick! RIP our first gay showmance.
Lordy, first American Idol, now this? -*-*-*UM, SPOILERS? ARE SPOILERS EVEN POSSIBLE FOR A SHOW WITH A FRAKKING LIVE FEED?*-*-*- Yes, within two episodes the highly-anticipated (in this house, anyway) first ever gay romantic Big Brother matchup is already kaput. In the live feeds last night gay houseguest Neil unexpectedly left the show (rumors are circulating that it's family-related) and the Powers That Be left Joshuah with the choice of either of the two evicted houseguests to pick as his new soulmate (which really isn't an appropriate term anymore, given that he wouldn't have been matched with either of them). In a shocking twist, Joshuah picked Sharon. Yes, a girl. We noted that when the gay couple was announced Joshuah made a reference to being attracted to women, and really, was he gonna pick a straight guy? Awkward! Joshuah's choice seemed strategic, not romantic (he even noted to another player that he worried that a new gay person wouldn't be accepted), but if that's the case then there goes the whole romantic twist of the season for the gay boy. What's more, the boys apparently shared a kiss in the kitchen before Neil made his unexpected departure. What are the chances of that making it to the actual broadcast, do you think? So at any rate, the first potential gay showmance is already dead, and now Joshua is going to be under some serious scrutiny from the other guests and viewers for his decision (he did seem legitimately upset about Neil's departure, for the record). So what do you guys think? Any conspiracy theorists out there think the whole thing was a setup? Submitted by on Thu, 2008-02-14 09:05. |

WHAT!
Raspy to BB9
I change channels to watch Bravo, BBCAmerica, HGTV and Food Network.
No more BB for me!
Joshuah's choice of Sharon not shocking
I don't usually watch BB and with the current develpment, I'm even less likely to tune in. However, I'd like to point out this part of Dan McCallum's liveblog:
"Parker calls Jacob out and a late night house meeting turns the drama up big time. While they scream at each other I'd like to talk about how every girl obviously loves Joshuah. First Jen ran and confided in him and now Sharon is sitting on his lap while her ex-bf tries to back himself out of the ditch he dug himself. Adorable."
So no surprise Joshuah would pick Sharon if he was given the limited choices of Jacob or her.
Big Brother
Joshuah was genuinely upset all night because the two guys did bond and become friends. Some of the girls were talking that they hoped Neil could come back (how that would work is in question).
Joshuah's choice wasn't so shocking whewn you think of it. First, he wasn't going to transfer his affections to another guy regardless of who it was. Second, it was Jacob we're talking about. He's one of those hypocritical Bible-thumpers who preaches on about his Jesus, but cheated on his gf. You can bet he had some judgmental remarks about homosexuals.
Nothing about this show is making sense to me
I am confused in general. The Chenbot was quite clear about the show running for 3 months on the first night it aired, so unless they keep bringing new couples, how do they manage to do that with the numbers? Split them up maybe? And what's up with the "Powercouple" kicking two people out without having a chance to fight for it. I could care less as the couple who left made me gag and I could have easily done without saying Ma and loser guy who used the "r" word.
Any clues as to how this show is expected to last 3 months? And then what does the future hold for Joshua? And this thing about himk being bisexual? ... OK, even if true, he should have gotten a chick the could have been his "soul mate"
Two possibilities...
I remember reading some speculation that Sharon and whasshisname were still around somehow (partly because they didn't get the exit interview evictees usually get) either they were being sequestered or that CBS was finally employing one of those secret BB houses that make a fun twist on the UK edition. (Tho BBUK is usually quick to let us know about the secret house, showing the evicted couples being detoured and then spying on their former housemates until they're given a chance to return.)
CBS and BB usually have some kind of plan to make the game run longer than originally set. If the show does well in the first two or three weeks, CBS orders a few extra weeks and plan B goes into motion -- usually by bringing back an evicted HG or by cutting back a double elimination down the line. There's a good chance there may be a twist planned in case they decide the show needs to run longer, especially since there was always the chance of the strike ending and scripted shows being ready sooner rather than later.
The other possibility is that BB is going to drop the couples game play somewhere down the line and start evicting people individually. Either way, the HGs seem aware that something is up, they were told that they should be prepared to be away from their lives for three months but they're noticing the math doesn't add up, too.
That's disappointing
A Kiss?
Out of the loop
I sincerely wish I had some appreciation for reality t.v. Everyone seems to have so much fun discussing Big Brother, Amazing Race, etc.
Unfortunately I was poisoned by one "Puck" on The Real World - San Francisco. I sincerely believe I got some sort of TV signal systemic poisoning from watching him too much. I can not bear the thought of watching reality tv now.
Permanently scarred, I have to walk by the water cooler everyday with that empty feeling that only comes from having no idea what the gang is talking about.
Don't trouble yourself Doctor -- I'm a celebrity, I'll write my own prescription.
F**K
I got impatient with my browser and accidentally posted the same message twice. So I'm erasing the second one and replacing it with this dribble.
OMG I may give up television completely
First they kick Josiah off AMERICAN iDOL and now we loose Neil off BIG BROTHER. What is the point of TV these days? Does any want to call sloppy seconds on these shows.

BIg Brother 9
Scandal
I'm sorry, but Neil leaving on family business? I just don't buy it. If I recall correctly 9/11 happened while Big Brother was on the air. One of the contestants had family in New York, and all they did was say something had happened. That show has never realised anyone. Download the application for the show sometime. It has a binding contract. You MUST finish the show no matter what happens.
I think Neil and Joshua were getting to close and the producers flipped out and realized they weren't going to be able to pull off a gay couple on broadcast TV in homophobic America. They probably flipped a coin and sent one of them packing.
If that were true
No anti-gay conspiracy on BB9, everything else, but not that
I think that Neil left because he found out that living at the BB house was not his scene. His name, image, or any signs that he existed have been removed from every aspect of what is shown on TV and that is how they generally treat "traitors" as producers have a vested interest in making sure that no one leaves them. Had Neil even felt that he was the subject of any homophobia, that guy would correctly be everywhere calling CBS on it.
The producers who have some moral conscience as it seems to manifest itself via tattoos apparently depicting George Bush. Our XXX-rated straight for pay house guest seems to be forced to put a Band-Aid on only this particular tattoo. Other times the tattoo gets the Amanda Kimmel Survivor-China butt cleavage coverage. I wish that they've do the same with the squeeky-voiced girl with short shorts who had some type of seizure last night. If I was not blogging this show, I'd have to stop watching as it's simply no fun. Neilsen would have a field day with me as I did not watch one second of the Oscars, the Superbowl, have not watched Idol yet, and watched this mess last night.
