Blood Work "True Blood" vlog (Ep 2.2): The makeover episode!

Taking our cue from the makeovers in this week's gloriously unhinged episode of True Blood, Andy and I run ourselves through the magical style machine ... to less-than-desirable results.

What was our Whatever, Sookie! moment of the week, and with whom do we Want to Do Bad Things? Plus: What's up with Eggs's killer bod, and — perhaps most importantly — will Terry ever hand Arlene them damn toonnngggggs?

Find out below!

Keep up with Blood Work and other things that bump in the night on my horror site, CampBlood.org!

Hmmm.....

Hey guys!  I was looking forward to hearing what you thought about this week's episode.   Yes, definitely a 9.  For the first time ever I actually enjoyed Jason's scenes, so that in itself is ground-breaking.  And Jessica turned into an interesting character, someone I actually want to keep watching.

I don't hate the series...love it very much, actually.  But Jason being a tedious moron who fucks everything in sight and Jessica being an obnoxious teenager is not exactly compelling viewing.  Jason as a guy at vacation bible camp being conflicted about his previous affection for the vampire his dead girlfriend murdered and Jessica being sympathetic to Sookie but vengeful toward her (probably) abusive father and cowardly mother are far more interesting.

The new waitress at Merlotte's, by the way, is Daphne.....which might be meaningful, or might not be.  I think it might, considering that we've got the whole Greek mythology thing going on what with Maryann being a maenad and having a sculpture of Pan by her pool and all....and Daphne being a nymph whom Apollo tried to seduce but failed because her father the river god turned her into a tree.   I don't know what on earth her being a klutz might have to do with it, except that maybe she was sent by Maryann to work at Merlotte's and had to fake her work experience to get the job.   To what purpose? Not sure, since as far as we know she didn't have anything to do with the ecstatic dance orgy that Maryann created.

My sense of storyline says it's too early for Lafayette to be turned into a vampire, but the fact that Eric, Pam, and Chow set upon him at the end of this episode shows that something drastic is going to happen to him.  The show hasn't really explained how much blood a vampire has to take before the victim is either dead or has to be turned, and the writers definitely seem to be using that to their advantage.

Will Lafayette be killed?  Almost certainly not, though I'm not sure what will happen.

Will Bill kill Jessica's family?  I don't think so.  I bet he wants to, very badly, but his compulsion to "mainstream" and desire to prevent Sookie being angry at him (no matter how angry he is at her) will prevent that.  More likely he'll glamour all of them and wipe their memories

Will Sookie go to Dallas?  Definitely, and quite possibly out of a fit of pique at Bill.  As Eric said, Bill's resistence to him taking her to Dallas was "badly played."  Bill doesn't seem to have a very good grasp of when to accept that certain people have power over you and you might as well work with them rather than against them, unlike Lafayette.   When it comes to "street smarts," Lafayette the human has more than Bill the vampire will ever have, though that's not exactly Bill's fault since he didn't choose to become a vampire in the first place.

I'm finding each divergence from the books to be refreshing, to be honest, since so far the writers are using them to make the story that much more elaborate and interesting, and each character more complex.  I love not knowing what's going to happen in each episode....and I love hearing your take on it.  Thanks so much for doing this vlog!

Hey, now!

I love you boys, but - fair warning - if by some tragic twist of fate the wardrobe gods at True Blood should LOSE THEIR MINDS and start dressing Ryan Kwanten in less form-flattering attire, I'm holding the two of you personally responsible. ;Þ

And . . . Andy, Andy, Andy. Hon, if you're dedicated to your art enough to assume the risk of chaffing that comes with donning leather pants, why hide the goods behind a plastic skull? Take a cue from RuPaul: WORK!

P.S.: I would carry a watermellon for Sam Trammell, too. Nobody puts Maryann in a corner.

Episode 2

You guys are a total scream! I loved your take on episode 2. I just dicovered your blog courtesy of EricNorthman.net. The only thing we slightly disagree on is Eggs....Eric is so much hotter! My guess is that you have already sung the praises for Eric, so you had to pick another. Sure, Eggs has a smokin' body but he seems a little goofy to me.

Sookie

Great video, but you fellas have got to work on your Sookie pronunciation. Too much 'sew-key', not enough 'suh-keh'!

Love this VLOG

Hi guys,

I found your vlog last year linked from HBO and I must say that I look forward to it every week!  I have a True Blood ritual which includes posting to the message boards and then anxiously awaiting your commentary (I DO have a life, but I'm a teacher and it's summer vacation--so I have an excuse! . . .or at least I'm using it as one!).  Anyway, your vlog is absolutely hilarious and many times spot-on and I love your "Whatever, SOOKIE" moments.  Surprised you all didn't mention Bill telling Sookie to "Shutup" which was the highlight of the show for me.

Only thing I have to say in reference to your "touching pictures of loved ones" comments is: you've never kissed a picture of a hot guy in your former years?  Well,  I have touched a picture (or two) in my day, lol, and am sure more people when willing to admit it would come forward and say they've done the same :) I guess you just have to be in the moment.

Thank goodness someone mentioned that awful tracksuit of Eric's and Eggs muscle disease!!  BTW, your makeovers made you look like two Italians from New Jersey---too funny!

Until next week!

Andy.....

After watching episode 3, I can definitely tell you that your makeover was to look like Terry!  Except Terry would never wear that shirt.  Maybe your look was "Terry as a vampire."  :-)
