News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

AfterElton Briefs: Rupert Everett talks the party circuit, T.R. hits Paris, and more!

In a continued effort to bring you all that is important in the world of gay entertainment and ensure that you are being spoon-fed images of gorgeous, commoditized manflesh, we present the newly-minted AfterElton Briefs. Following the usual assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Insert "Gay Par-ee" joke HERE: Above, T.R. Knight and Katie Heigl take their BFF-ness international. What's French for "cute enough to spread on a croissant?"
  • Another day, another headline-grabbing comment from always outspoken actor Rupert Everett, who discusses the "mindless drug addicts" and "party-grazing cows" that have dragged down Gay Pride.
  • I complained about the ACTUAL gay content of this season's American Idol earlier today, and for those of you who disagreed, I happily present to you Defamer's celebration of the show's creeping gay-seeming apocalypse. You kids and your optimism!
  • Check out eHarmony's list of 20 Movies that Make Men Cry, which - despite featuring a surprise Philadelphia - does not include Brokeback Mountain. I would suggest that they specify "Movies that Make STRAIGHT Men Cry", but it's a pointless distinction given how eHarmony doesn't think gay men exist. (t/y to Popcandy for finding!)

The Men of Maurice
  • There Wilby Birthday: He may be straight, but James Wilby stole many a gay heart when he starred as Maurice back in 1987. The actor turns 50 today.

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

Abercrombie model Michael Churchill!

Samuel Gillespie's picture

Wait, Abercrombie model?

What is abercrombie selling in that shot?  Briefs? i know it's not pillow cases.

And, am I the only one in the world who couldn't give two bowel movements about Heigl and her activities?  Yes, T.R. is just adorable.  He couldn't be any cuter.  But why is Katherine so exciting for people?

Eh, who knows?  I'm just asleep here...

Liz T's picture

i think people.......

i think people like Katherine because she went to bat for T.R. when the whole Isaiah Washington controversy was going on.

she could've kept her mouth shut, but nope...she basically said "you fuck with him, you fuck with me...."

optimism helps

The gays of AI doesn't need to go out and say they're gay for us to enjoy the show. It's even better if they stay on long in the competition, or who knows, maybe even win. That's an even bigger positive exposure we can get than by just coasting along as a gay man and getting votes based on that fact. Cheer up! Don't have to look a gift horse in the mouth now do we.

Then again I watch AI because I have the hots for David Hernandez. Anything else doesn't really matter to me :)

as for your question.....

"What's French for "cute enough to spread on a croissant?"

^ this is as close as i got --> joli s'étendre sur le pain

François Peneaud's picture

No croissant

"What's French for "cute enough to spread on a croissant?"

^ this is as close as i got --> joli s'étendre sur le pain

 ----

Actually, your version doesn't make any sense :)
We've got "mignon à croquer" ("cute enough to eat", more or less), but there's no croissant in it.

I'll take Heigl over Rupert Everett any day

as Heigl is becoming a major star who seems to only be closer to her gay best friend while Everett has turned into a bitter old queen without any reason. Maybe it was all the bad plastic surgery that he underwent to try to try to remain youthful, the apparent belief that his sexual orientation is the only reason he's not a massive superstar, or maybe that simply some twink turned him down at one of these sex/drug filled events that he so used to love.

I can't stand the the site of Everett anymore, but he is gay and AE is here cover even the annoying ones, to a point. I've love to see porm provocateur and general sour-loser Michael Lucas do a gay version of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, with Everett playing the Baby Jane role and Lucas tackling Blanche. Oh the possibilities..... Bitterness is not attractive and hopefully Everett can reel it in as he was so great in .... well you know the movie. I am not going to market it for him until he chills.

Once again....

Guillermo, you're right on the money. I don't care for Everett very much. I happen to adore T.R. Not only because he's gay but he's a fine actor on one of my favorite shows. As for Katherine, I like her because I've seen her in interviews on late night tv etc. and she comes across as very likeable to me, and I like her on Grey's as well. I sincerely wish her all the happiness in her new marriage. What she did for T.R. last year was simply awesome. Kudos to her. If only she were a straight man going up to bat like that for a gay man. That sort of thing doesn't happen all to often does it? Maybe I'm wrong. Peace everybody.

Regards,

Rupert does have a point unfortunately

Okay, granted, this article from The Onion (from 7 years ago) is a parody, but only barely to completely honest...

T.R. Hits Paris

I was so hoping T.R. did what most of us want, that he had bitch slapped Paris Hilton.  No such luck.

A guy can dream, can't he?

I've been tempted to get an

I've been tempted to get an account here before, but now I finally got one so I could thank you for acknowledging James Wilby's birthday here. Maurice is one of my favorite movies ever - I run a LiveJournal community for it and I've watched it around twenty times (and read the book maybe eight times).

Maurice

I didn't know there was a LiveJournal for Maurice. That's been one of my favorite movies since I was about 12.

Happy Birthday to James Wilby! If you're interested in his work, he also turned in a great performance as (gay) poet Siegfried Sassoon in the movie Regeneration, aka Behind the Lines.

James was nice but

it was Rupert Graves for me! *swoon*

And thier kiss in the boat house is still one of the most beautiful I've seen. Glistening lips!

The Torchwood Sock Puppets

The Torchwood Sock Puppets were hilarious. "You canna have an episode of Torchwood without gay innuendo", which is true!

I want to be a hero like Captain Jack Harkness, kicking butt and snogging anything with a pulse! Besides, then I get a sexy receptionist of my very own.

dkellergrl2001's picture

I love this film....

and the final segment, when Maurice fully embraces Alec into his arms. They share that amazing kiss and Alec says into his ear:

"Now, we shall never be parted."

I swooned like the naive 16 year-old surburban straight girl that I was way back when. I also realized that I was very intrigued by anything that dealt with the expression of sex, love and affection between two men. I mean, I discoved this Gordon Merrick trash novel by the time I was 12 years of age (A Measure of Madness) in my local drugstore.

Psionycx's picture

Maurice was groundbreaking

The novel, which went unpublished for decades, was considered revolutionary given the period it was written in that Maurice and Alec have a happy ending rather than suffering tragedy as a consequence of their homosexuality.  While that may seem odd now, for a long time it was an expected part of any (rare) depiction of homosexuality that the homosexual needed to be punished in the end for their transgression.  It was a great book and a very great movie.
