"Brothers & Sisters" to receive Television Academy Honors award for gay wedding episode

Wow - we've come a long way, baby.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (the people behind the Emmys) just announced the eight recipients for the Academy of Television Honors awards, which represent the year's best examples of "television with a conscience".

Among the honorees (and the only scripted series to be awarded) is local fave Brothers & Sisters, specifically the "Prior Commitments" episode in which Kevin Walker and Scotty Wandell are married.

Considering that fellow and prior honorees include Planet Earth, Stand Up to Cancer, 30 Days, and God's Warriors, this is highly esteemed company for the show to be placed in, and an enormous gesture of support from the Academy regarding gay marriage rights. The official release of the honorees with the details of each nomination won't be available on the ATAS site until tomorrow, but the basic info is making its way around the newswires.

Congratulations, Walkers-Wandells!

Aww!

I love that picture, and I agree the show deserves recognition for going there. They didn't have to, remembering they did it before the court decision that legalized (briefly) marriage.

Minor gripe - maybe the award will remind them to do something with that story now?
