"Brothers & Sisters," uncles and husbands: Brand new portraits of the gay Walker men

Luke Macfarlane, Matthew Rhys, and Ron Rifkin (All photos: ABC/ANDREW ECCLES)

ABC just released some snazzy new portraits of the Walkers and Walker-adjacents (perhaps taken in coordination with the network upfronts?) and of course our beloved gay characters, Kevin (Matthew Rhys), Scotty (Luke Macfarlane) and Saul (Ron Rifkin) are well represented.

Interestingly, so is Balthazar Getty's Tommy, while Ryan (Luke Grimes) is not featured (regulars and recurrings Holly, Nora, Sarah, Justin, Kitty, Julia, Robert and Rebecca are also there). Could be nothing, who knows.

But in the meantime, enjoy the portraits, and pick your favorite! We know we have.

"What, these socks? I actually got them off of some chick who got a house dropped on her."

"I'm not amused."

"... Oh, okay - I totally am!"

"Okay, why am I the one who gets stuck in Tim Burton's powder room?"

"I R Serious Gay. This R Serious Pitcher."

"See? I can smile, too!"

"Okay, that's enough. Last shot."

"What ring? Oh, THIS ring? Oh how nice of you to notice!"

"What? Oh - I'm sorry, I didn't think you had finished. Great story!"

"Aw shucks..."

"I'm Canadian. You can trust me."

Good Gracious!

Why oh why does Luke Macfarlane have to be so damn adorable?

And on another note: why do I kinda love the wallpaper that Matthew is standing in front of?

Thanks for the pics

Thanks for the pics of the three of them. I just saw Luke Macfarlane so much it felt like a B&S episode. Mathhew Ryhmes looks much hotter in thwse photos than normaly on the show.

Matthew's are my favorites

They're all great, but my favorites are with Matthew. He just looks like he has such a hard time forcing a grin on his face for the photos. I can relate. He's so cute.

Matthew Rhys guest appeared on Rachael Ray (May 7th clips)

Typical interview, but check it out here [watch first before reading my comments, not to get any spoilers or so]:

And backstage:

www.rachaelrayshow.com/show/segments/view/backstage-matthew-rhys-dream-meal/

I find he is losing his Welsh accent!

Didn't like the question about who's the best kisser, but I did like Matthew Rhys' reply!!!!!! A shame Rachael Ray didn't let him finish his reply...

Didn't like the fact that Rachael Ray just assumes Matthew Rhys is straight.. And the way she said it.. "In real life that's not your personal choice. You are a not a gay guy in real life etc. ...".

Matthew Rhys on Rachael Ray

I agree, I am not even sure he really meant to say that Jason Lewis was the best kisser, (I think he diplomatically wanted to say something nice about all 3 of his co-stars) but Rachael heard Jason's name and went into complete 'squeeeeee'-mode, like some 14-year old, and didn't even let Matthew finish his answer...

Well, in all, she didn't let him say much to begin with, she did most of the talking herself, but that seems standard procedure these days.

That was the impression I got as well.  Of course, that may be my personal bias against Jason Lewis (don't get the appeal.  Both LM and EW look like much better kissers, but that's IMO).  Wow, is she a bad interviewer.  All of her questions seemed really strained.

Of course, with these types of interviews, it's hard to take anything seriously.  They often go in there knowing things they have to talk about and what questions are going to be asked (perhaps, for example, highlighting Chad's return, the movie, how great Sally Field is, etc.).  Not everyone is that scripted of course, but this one seemed to be.

She hardly "assumed" he was straight.  That's pretty well publicized.  And even if it wasn't, as I mentioned above, the person in charge of organizing the questions would have verified that.

Matthew Rhys questions

It's your opinion, yes! LOL! Because like I said, I loved Matthew Rhys reply! I like Jason Lewis and Chad! Chad's kisses with Kevin, looked so much more intense and romantic than the ones with Jason (Eric Winter) for instance. And with Scotty, I miss that you don't see them cuddle or hold hands more often (or at all). It's all very steamy, but I'd like to see 'sweeter' moments. Not that they aren't sweet together, but you know, holding/touching hands or cuddling, hugging (not only when they meet in Hospital after someone's heartattack) or caressing the other ones face or so... Tender little gestures like that..

I agree! But then these chat interviews only last about 5 minutes. I hate that. They never have time to go into the subject matter and end up asking the same (stupid) questions. I would like to know for instance if Matthew Rhys enjoys all that politics/lawyer talk he has to memorize. Does it come easy or not. Is he following US politics closely or not? How difficult it is to 'get rid' of his Welsh accent. I would like to know about how he personally thinks Scotty and Kevin should develop - family, etc. .. Or other tv plans. Theatre etc. What he misses from home (Wales) or stuff like that.

You think? She didn't give me the impression that she did a lot of reasearch, or whether she was really interested in the actor at all. I mean, the way she said it was a bit offensive in my opinion. "In real life it's not your choice".. Maybe he is straight, maybe he is not, but still, saying it like she did, must have made him feel stupid, especially since he is working with closely together with Luke Mcfarlane who is openly gay who would certainly not argue that he is gay by 'choice'.... Matthew must have cringed at that remark. I did.

Even if they have only 5 minutes with the actors they interview, couldn't they ask something less 'duh'.. ? I don't get it. If she had done more research, her interview could have been interesting, even for only 5 minutes.

And why was R Ray talking about a long list of male actors, that Kevin supposedly kissed.. He only kissed Chad, Scotty and Jason. Or am I forgetting someone?

Has there actually been a AE question session to Matthew Rhys like there has been with Jo Weil from "Verbotene Liebe"? I would love to read some of AE's (our/my) questions put to Matthew Rhys!

Yeah, well. Jason Lewis/Chad does nothing for me. To each his (or in my case, her) own.  I always thought Jason Lewis the actor looked too uncomfortable in most of those kisses. And Chad the character's relationship with Kevin was much more sex-based (emotions came later) than the other two, so of course their kisses would be more intense.  Additionally, we saw - what - two, three kisses with Jason M?  And the relatively few kisses with Scotty are also shorter or obscured and typically more romantic or sweeter.  I don't really think the three of them can be compared by the same standards.  (I've now given this way too much thought...)

I think you're giving Rachel Ray far too much credit.  She's hardly a serious journalist who's going to be asking these in-depth kind of questions.  And I'm not saying I think she did any research at all. I'm saying it would be easy enough for some poor production assistant to find any one of the probably hundreds of references to MR being straight in real life.  Although, yes, the way she phrased it was hardly appropriate. Again, though, too much credit.

To each their own, yes! ;o) Interesting though, because I thought Jason Lewis did not at all look uncomfortable. His kisses with Matthew Rhys seemed to be very ehm.. 'wanted'. Anyway, I liked Chad because of his confusion. It's a shame he was too closeted for Kevin - that I understand - but I found his 'inner torture' endearing. I could/can relate.

I agree, that the Jason McCallister character doesn't count much. And I didn't really care for him, because the story went nowhere really. I got used to Kevin and Scotty now, but like I said, I find there are more intimate moments missing between the two. We either see them arguing/talk about something or we see them doing it. I would love to see more tender moments. Chad and Kevin were touching each other more often on a random basis. Kevin and Scotty only seem to touch each other when they are making love (interrupted by Sarah), when they kiss every now and then or when they occasionally hug. But that's not the topic of this discussion.

Oh, but I don't give her too much credit. Actually I have absolutely no idea who she is! I have never seen her before in my life, but I saw this link posted on IMDb, watched it and posted it here.

Living in Europe the only 'live talks' I can see of actors on chat shows is via the internet/YouTube (unless it's Jay Leno or the Irish dude.. forget his name). When I say that even in 5 minutes you can ask more interesting question than Ray did, then because she did not manage to do it. It was indeed painful to watch and I must say Matthew Rhys must have been in a particular good mood, because I can see how you could easily get in a stinky mood with stupid comments/questions like these ones.

I don't get why 'journalist' don't try to be more creative. This interview happened with Brothers & Sisters being in its 3rd season. Why must there be the comment about Kevin being gay at all? It's old news! Or is Ray's audience from a TV-deprived state? Anyway, I can't see the necessity of yet another talk show like this one if ther is nothing new. I watched it still, because like I said, there are very few occasions (or I'm just bad at tracking them on tv) here in Europe to see the actors you like in a setting different to the one of the series' episode they star in.

I don't know how actors decide to which talk show they go to, but this one was a waste of time. But I'm happy I saw it!... lol..

This is all because...

...Rachael Ray isn't a journalist. She's a mildly talented chef who got her own cooking show, which then was expanded into a "talk show". Also, she tapes in New York, as far as I know, so yes, she and her audience should know better.

best kisser

Well, I honestly don't care who would have 'won' Mattthew vote. If it is Matthew's personal idea that Jason Lewis was the best kisser, then so be it. But now I have this unsatisfied feeling that he may not be, because maybe Matthew wanted to say something else, but never had a chance thanks to 'Squeeeeeeee'-ing Rachael.

But, yes, to each his (in my case also her own) and my personal choice from the beginning was Scotty.

But I really liked Chad, not at first, but it was a process, as he became more interested in Kevin, I become more interested in Chad. I do have the idea however that the relationship started on a more sexual base, then out of affection.

I like him better than Jason, in who I just couldn't get interested, although I blame this more on the writers than on Eric Winter or Jason as a character. He could have been far more interesting, if his storyline hadn't been so utterly ridiculous.

Painful Interviews

but never had a chance thanks to 'Squeeeeeeee'-ing Rachael.

I still can't get over how bad an interviewer she was.  There's a couple interviews out there with Korbi (?) what's-her-face and Dave Annable as well as other actors that are full of nothing but very painful attempts at flirting.  Since when is "do you act like a stereotypical preteen girl" a requirement for entertainment journalism?  Or, at least, the only requirement?  It's embarrassing to watch. I feel bad for Matthew (or Dave or whoever) for having put up with that as they do their best to represent whatever it is they're promoting.

I agree.  I don't care much

I agree.  I don't care much for Rachael Ray but if this clip is representative of her "interviewing skills/style" then she's rubbish.

I also can't stand her voice.  Poor Matthew had to be subjected to that inane "Q&A"?  I feel bad for him.  At least it appeared that he was a good sport about the whole thing.

RJ's picture

Rachael Ray was awful

Admittedly, I don't often watch her show but I was still shocked at how terrible her interviewing skills were with Matthew Rhys, compared to the few previous interviews I've seen her do with, for example, Rosie O'Donnell, New Kids On The Block and Billy Crudup. The Rosie interview was actually pretty good - no doubt due in large part to her allowing Rosie to take the lead and do most of the talking.

By comparison with those other interviews, it almost seemed like she was drunk in this one. Her whole line of questioning was clumsy and amateurish. And was it really necessary, after the question about which male co-star was the best kisser, to immediately re-confirm his heterosexuality by asking which of two female co-stars was the better kisser? Even the much-maligned Jimmy Fallon knew better than to do that during his interview with Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna when GGB asked his best friend DL who was the best kisser between Sean Penn, Tom Hanks or himself.

YES, totally not necessary! It was as if it was to 'un-shock' her audience from what she asked before. And Matthew Rhys really only had the option to give inane answers.. ("Between Keira Knightely and Sienna Miller who did you prefer?" and Matthew only has time to say: "Pfoahhhh...." and then she rambles on).

I do like her husky voice though and I found Mr Rhys cute the way he sat on the couch they shared. Elegantly sexy.

Diego Luna

Diego Luna was in "The Terminal" with Tom Hanks. It was probably just a joke about Tom Hanks. I don't think they actually kissed; however, I don't know for sure since I haven't seen the film.
Nukely's picture

Racael is as Rachael does

Agreed, Rachael has never been a good interviewer, not with anyone. She's perky. And like Lou Grant famously told Mary Richards on her first day of work, "I don't like perky."

I just can't get over the line of questioning. Having a straight man decide who is the best kisser of all the men he's kissed, an improvement over this summer when I was complaining about actors who had to get drunk or be conned before they could kiss another man.

It's pretty hilarious, when you think about it. I imagine the day when I walk into a straight bar, and there are three dudes trying to impress their girlfriends, not by arm wrestling, but kissing each other to find out who really is the best.
