Kneel before Zod!!

There's nothing particularly gay about this, but I know we have some Smallville fans in the audience who I thought might be excited to hear that the show has cast the role of Zod, probably best known to casual cape-fans as the funny-eyebrowed villain played by the guy from Priscilla, Queen of the Desert in Superman II.

British actor Callum Blue (Dead Like Me, The Tudors) has been cast in the role, and all acting ability aside it's a relief to see that the casting department of the hit show is clearly keeping eye candy at the top of the list when it comes to "special skills". Anyone else looking forward to seeing young Kent sharing lots of the show's trademark gay-ish glances with this adorable Brit?

More pics of Blue, below!

He's best known to serious cape fans the same way.

Despite being around since the early 60s, that Superman II appearance has been the touchstone of the character.  I think most of his subsequent appearances have been based on that at least as much as his actual comics stories.  It's pretty common to have a "kneel before Zod" quote worked into the story as well.  You win for the best spin on the line, though.

Oh, Superman...

We're big fans of the movie version in our house as well, although we have a softer spot for Sarah "my powers here are beyond REASON!" Douglas. Now that's the hotness. Now who could they cast to play HER as a cranky twentysomething?

Appearance Alone

Appearance-wise, I could see Winona Ryder playing her. She can still play young, I think.

How about Charlotte Riley

Just saw Charlotte Riley in Easy Virtue and think she could definitely pull off a 20-something Ursa.

BRIAN how could you leave out Callum's AS IF Saga

Callum played one of the most frustrating boyfriends I've ever seen on As If (2001/2002 - Series 3).

He plays "Mark" a bisexual dude who woos and falls in love with out gay character "Alex" (one of the main As If characters).

There whole love story is so much soapy, sexy, drama-filled goodness.  He gets to deliver some fabulously snarky, venomy lines! And he delivers!!!

It's like a combination of some teen/young adult Neil Simon rom com mixed with Marx Brothers , a smidge of US Queer as Folk and a dash of John Hughes angst.

Half the time I wanted to give him a cuddle the other I wanted to smack the crap out of him (sometimes in the same scene).

Callum is all kinds of awesome!

"As If" he weren't the hottest one on that show!

Far and away he was the yummiest character. I agree though, he was a twat half the time and adorably vunerable the rest.

"As If" can be hard to track down, but its a must for a Callum Blue fan. Lot's o' boy on boy kissing and snuggling. He plays the gay love story with complete authenticity.

On the whole "As If" was a bit lame, but it is very, very of its time period where a sort of queer renaissance seems to have taken hold on British television. QAF and Metrosexuality both came out at the same time and used similiar filming styles with lots of zooming cameras and jump cuts as well as plots that revolve around a circle of friends.

What I found weird about the show was that the characters that were suppose to be the "hot" ones weren't very hot and the "geeky" ones were gorgeous.

As If

You can find every episode of As If on youtube under user courchevalskier. It's a guilty pleasure that I loved when I was in my late teens!

Alex :o)

I'd happily kneel before Zod!

That man is beautiful!!! I probably should get Smallville on DVD, cuz I've never watched an episode. It would be so cool if Sarah Douglas (Ursa in Superman II) put in a cameo appearance.

So Sad

Just seeing his faces brings up anger at Showtime for canceling Dead Like Me.

How could you forget!!!

He's the current maligned boyfriend of Billie Piper's "Belle" on Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Nude-like goodness there abounds!

Kneeling

If I wasn't happily married I would kneel before that Zod!  He is yummy!

Fantastic, and to add a little more to the mix

Fantastic, and to add a little more to the mix, Brian Austin Green will join the cast as Metallo.

The hotties continue to pile on this show.

Zod!

The show has been lacking a good egomaniacal villain since Lex left. Psychotic Doomsday was such a disappointment in the end. Here's hoping Callum's Zod can revive the homoerotic love-hate thing between Clark and his nemesis that has made this show watchable despite the sappy hetero romances...

Terence Stamp

Yes, Callum Blue is cute, but as a gay man of a certain age I must comment that the "guy" you refer to as having been in Superman II and Priscilla, Queen of the Desert is Terence Stamp, and he was quite the looker in his day, capable of fueling any number of adolescent gay boy dreams.  Just check out his performance in Far From the Madding Crowd with Julie Christie if you don't know what I mean.

Careful, Brian!

With a title like "Kneel before Zod!" above a picture like that, I was very nearly tempted to make a joke of some sort, alluding to oral sex. But then I thought, "Hey, NOBODY would resort to something so distasteful!"  I am deeply ashamed of myself for considering such a thing!
