Carrie Prejean fired from job as Miss California

Okay, that has to hurt.

In this economy, I'm not exactly keen on celebrating the firing of anyone, no matter how massive a tool they may present themselves as being or how horrible they may or may not be. But the news today that Carrie Prejean, who famously turned her position as Miss California into a soapbox for anti-gay rhetoric with a flair that Anita Bryant herself might find impressive, has been fired by the man who once defended her is meriting at least a tiny confetti-toss at my desk. (whee.)

Keep in mind that Prejean was not fired for her documented passion for "opposite marriage", nor should she have been. Lord knows there are bigger haters out there in more powerful positions. She was finally let go by dollmaster Donald Trump for her failure to fulfill her pageant-waving duties, whatever they might have been.

So pardon me for not feeling terribly bad about the news. I guess I won't be winning Miss Congeniality anytime soon. And hey ... on the brightside, she got a sweet new rack out of the deal, right?

Does this mean she has to surrender her fake tits?

I certainly hope so.

They're still the most real thing about her.

I'm of two minds here -

I can't say I wasn't pleased to hear that Prejean was finally let go for failing to perform her duties as expected. She has repeatedly made clear her values and priorities, and it's good to see that Trump and company finally realized it was she who was using them, and not vice-versa.

On the other hand, Prejean has finally earned the "martyr" label that she and the fundies wanted to bestow upon her since the start of this whole mess. The firing ensures that Prejean will long be talked about and remembered as "a righteous woman who paid the price for being true to herself," or however the right-wingnuts will phrase it. After all, nobody remembers pageant winners unless there's a scandal that keeps their name and image in the minds of the public. Vanessa Williams may never have had her wonderful career if she hadn't lost her crown due to the publication of those Penthouse photos, and Prejean seems to be following down that same path to notoriety.

Considering her inability to speak coherently...

..I'd say she has a limited future a "spokesperson".  A "poster child" certainly, but poster children don't age well.

Martyr

Actually, I don't think it will work out that way at all.  It WOULD have made her a martyr if she'd been fired because of her comments, either at the pageant or later, or if she'd been fired in the middle of all the controversy.  But she was fired after she had faded from the headlines, and she was fired for not performing her duties.  People don't become martyrs for that.  Further, she was fired by the very guy who made a point of NOT firing her at the height of the controversy.  To whatever extent she was going to be a martyr was already determined by all the flak she's taken to this point.  She's been considered a martyr all along by people who were offended by the attacks on her.  Firing her for what is and will be seen as just, job-related cause won't add to that martyrdom.  In fact, for some people I'll bet it will remove some of the martyrdom because some will lose respect for her at this point.  People generally aren't fond of those who shirk their responsibilities.

I wish

I had the same faith that the general public will care enough about the actual details to remember the real reason she was fired. I have no doubt, however, that Faux News (and all the conserva-douches who will be lining up to sign her as a spokesmodel) are already working on reframing the situation. They've been conning gullible believers for years with their "fair and balanced" take on social issues and news stories, and I doubt they'll let the facts of the situation start getting in the way of one of their self-appointed "heroes."

I would, however, be thrilled to be proven wrong in this situation.

seanb, you must be reading my mind, but you said it better than I could.

I think your last sentence

I think your last sentence will probably be the truest thing ever said!  She'll end up in Penthouse or Playboy some day!

How It Went Down?

I have to wonder: Did Trump call Prejean into a big boardroom with a long table, sit her down with a bunch of other beauty queens, question them all about their performance with the help of Trump's daughter and an old man named George, make a big speech, pause dramatically, and then announce "Carrie, you're fired"?

Coming soon to a Fox news outlet!

You know Fox news is already getting her show ready for the airwaves.

She doesn't get to keep the job so she shouldn't get to keep...

that "sweet new rack" of hers that you so neatly pointed out!  In most cases, the benefits of the job don't get to be kept once you loose the job for what ever reason.  She should give them back. Or better yet, have them taken from her in some sort of public debauchery!  I would see this is direct payback for her display of public hatred, or for just the sake of not being so mean, just make her pay for them herself. LOL!

Smart Money

Smart money says there's some behind-the-scenes deal done on this one.  Someone has decided she's destined for bigger things and the tiara is holding her back.  Freed up means she's free to be exploited used however the Preachy McHolier Than Thous see fit, in the war against the unrighteous.  Or against those with large pores.  Or something opposite to what she believes.  Like, you know.

Her Resume

I hope she knows people who are hiring the next time she needs to go looking for a job.  And as funny as this seems, I'm doing my very best not to be snarky.  She's going to need to seriously be riding some coattails and hitting up her friends and benefactors for jobs.  What HR department in their right mind would hire her if she can't fulfill contractual responsibilities associated with a beauty pageant scholarship competition?

In about 10 years I expect to see (not watch) the E! True Hollywood Story on this bozo and all of her wise life choices.

I love the golden bear state

but California has a lot to be ashamed about right now, and this is the least of it.

The spin has begun

Prejean is apparently telling anyone who will listen that:

1. Pageant officials tried to get her to agree to a deal with Playboy - $140,000 to pose semi-nude. (which she turned down)

2. They also wanted her to agree to appear on "I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!" (which she turned down)

3. She insists this is all about their disagreement with her views on gay marriage, and is totally political. She claims to have been completely cooperative with pageant officials.

It'll be very interesting to see which news outlets give more attention and coverage to Prejean's spin over the official pageant statements in the next few days. I'm expecting pictures of a crying, "victimized" Prejean to pop up any minute now.

Crabby Lioness's picture

Her credibility with the mainstream just evaporated.

Everyone knows that beauty pageants pressure the girls to stay out of Playboy, not appear in Playboy.  Same with cheesy reality shows.  Pageant winners are supposed to be classy -- at least until their contract is up.
