"Terminator: Salvation" director McG to bring "Spring Awakening" to the big screen?

This is interesting news: Apparently action director McG (Charlie's Angels, Terminator: Salvation) is looking to bring the teen angstiest little rock opera that could to the big screen.

Yes, it's Spring Awakening: Full Throttle.

True, McG did get his start directing music videos and even co-wrote (and produced) music for Sugar Ray. (Note: I said "true", not ... well ... "good".) But how will his sensibilities translate to a musical based on a dusty old German cautionary tale about sex, abortion, rape, suicide and budding gay love? Will Moritz sing "I Don't Do Sadness" while jumping off a cliff on a flaming motorbike? Will Wendla advise Anna to "flip ... her god ... damned ... hair"?

Let's hope that, regardless of how many bullet-time sequences McG decides to add into the dance numbers, he leaves the play's gay couple intact (they share one of the more interesting love songs of the show), and that he casts some great actors to play Ernst and Hanschen (played by excellently-named out actor Gideon Glick and Jonathan B. Wright on Broadway).

Thoughts? Is this a match made in heaven, or will it be, to quote the show's most notable song, "Totally F*cked"?

I was skeptical when I saw

I was skeptical when I saw this at first, but Terminator: Salvation looks awesome, and Chuck (which McG produces) is the best show on television. So I will give McG the benefit of the doubt.

"Awakening" to Premiere on Here! This Summer

Hmmm - I seem to recall reading an article in TV Guide about a month ago hinting that a version of "Spring Awakening" was going to premiere on Here! TV sometime this summer.  I believe the actual title to be "The Awakening of Spring" and will feature John Aniston (Jen's dad) and Constance Towers - both of whom are big soap vets.  I can only find a brief mention of the film on IMDB.com.  I will post an update as soon as one becomes available.

Yep

If I'm not mistaken, An Awakening of Spring is a non-musical film adaptation of the original German play upon which Spring Awakening is based.

Nonononononono!

Please say this is a ridiculous rumor.  The only person who should be directing a film version of Spring Awakening is John Cameron Mitchell.  He can handle rocking musicals (Hedwig And The Angry Inch) and sexually explorative movies (Short Bus).  McG knows how to blow shit up!  What the hell?!?

Let me think

There was John Huston directing ANNIE for the screen. I think it is the rock score that made a sodden old play into a hit.  You should consider that pyrotechnics enough to employ McG, unless he employs Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens as his star-crossed lovers.

Now there is a gruesom thought.

That's all I am saying...
