Trailer: Gay horror movie "Cthulhu" swims into theatres this fall

You may have heard that I'm a huge horror movie fan. Like, leviathan. And being a gay horror fan, I've found myself on the disappointing end of the stick ... oh, with about every gay horror movie since Hellbent. So imagine my delight when I caught a glimpse at the long-coming gay horror movie Cthulhu and it totally didn't suck.

The movie has a gay lead character and tackles the complicated and unique mythology of legendary horror writer H.P. Lovecraft, whose work is magnificently haunting but incredibly difficult to capture on film (I've seen many failed attempts, believe me). If this trailer is any indication, these folks might have gotten it right, and with a gay twist to boot ... thank you, lord Cthulhu!

Oh, and did I mention that Tori Spelling plays a small part? Girl looks hot!

Check it out after the break...

huh

It looks actually half way watchable. That's a plus for a here! film and for a gay film. I could do without the Tori Spelling though.

What is with some of these producers and having that whiney ass Tori Spelling in anything? I am still trying to recover from her bitching, piss and moaning perfomance in THE TRICK! If it wasn't for her daddie's money and position in the entertainment field, doubtful we would have to be subjected to another no-talent offspring such as her.

I'll be passing on this epic. Most of the "gay themed" horror films that are featured on here! or LOGO are so boring that they're unwatchable. Case in point; DANTE'S COVE! Some of the worst acting in film history!

Might I interject?

I tend to disagree when it comes to the acting in some of the HERE! and LOGO programming. Is it Oscar worthy? Hell No, but that being said, this movie actually looks like HERE! has invested some major money into this film AND the acting (as far as the trailer shows) is pretty good. Yes, Tori Spelling is in it and god I only hope for a few scenes and then she's gone. I hope!.

I disagree with you on Dante's Cove. Is it the worst acting in film history? Really? Yes, the acting could be better and it would help if I didn't have to adjust to a new verison of a character every other season (i.e. Adam from season 1 and 'New' Adam from season 2-3, Michelle from Season 2 and Michelle from Season 3), but this series is considered a Soap Opera of sorts, so over acting is pretty much a given when dealing with that type of format. I mean haven't you ever watched a mainstream soap opera (Passions and Days of Our Lives) and wondered how the hell a particuler actor got the job despite the fact he or she can't act worth crap? They get a pass because of the fact that they are beautiful and almost always have naked.

Dante's Cove and The Lair suffer from many flaws and I hope that in the fourth season, there will be some kind of remedy to those flaws, but for a fledgling network like HERE! I don't expect everything to be perfect right off the bat. It takes time to find your niche, I applaude them for trying to branch out and try different genres of film in order to give the gay audience a variety of things to chose from. The Good, The Bad, And Even the Ugly.

As far as LOGO, I didn't really expect much as it is basically Gay MTV and not really full of much in the way of original programming (though what they do have is pretty okay in my book), but again, they are only operating in the limits that they are given. One can only hope that they bring more originality into the mix. I enjoyed shows like 'Noah's Arc', because it was engaging and original, though admittedly, the basic formula was close to that of Sex and The City, the drama and humor in it was what I loved as well as the storylines.

Lastly and finally my end-all point, don't disregard a film solely based on who it was produced by, everyone has rough patches to get through and rough edges to sand down. I think HERE! may actually have something in the way of gold with this film and I look forward to seeing it. I do hope that it doesn't turn out to be bust and I hope that they continue to pour more money into their original programs and maybe just maybe we'll see the quality of the acting as well as the shows themselves rise, thus giving us programming that we could talk about without cringing.

Here, Here

Please don't diss Here!

America is lucky to have such a gay channel such as Here!. I got it when it came to Rogers Cable as Here On Demand and I loved the programming. I may be in the minority but I LOVE Dante's Cove and the Lair. For me these are escapist shows and who cares if it is "low quality". I just love the eye candy and you don't have to think. There are enough thinking movies and shows out there.

Here! TV has much better shows than OUT TV here in Canada. OUT TV has more non gay shows than gay ones and these shows aren't even entertaining. There are shows like "World of Wealth" and "Aventura" which don't even have anything remotely gay. One is a show reporting on wealth and the other is an Italian cooking show hosted by a straight guy (he is cute though). Another show that is terrible is the Queer Edge with Jackie Jett. This is supposed to be a talk show for gay men with a supposedly gay man hosting it but the two "dancers" who are shown from time to time at the opening and after each commerical are two scantilly clad WOMEN. What's up with this. The host himself always comes across as a straight man acting gay.

The movies on OUT TV are always of poor quality and most don't even have gay characters, like "Witchhouse" or coded gay characters like "Final Stab". These movies always repeat as well.

The good news is that Here! has partnered with OUT TV and come September, maybe we will get quality Here! programmes.

I was just looking for...

people with the Innsmouth look to them. No such luck...

Have to say I'm more interested in this to see what they do with HP Lovecraft rather than the gay angle... that's what will make it enduring and entertaining.

Call of Cthulhu

Believe me, I've been drooling for a screener copy ever since I wrote this back in February:

Lovecraft + gay protagonist + Tori Spelling = Cthulhu, the Movie

If they ever send me one, I'll be all over it like a shadow over Innsmouth.
